Im a freshman in college for cello rn but i also do percussion. Push/pull technique is often taught in terms of stick control and ability. I love finding parallels between instruments

I enjoyed this. You have a patient and fun way of explaining this motion. My teacher talks of gestures and this is just that. Also using your mind and imagination is a great reminder to us. Thank you.

So what I am thinking is that when you do the push pull with the bow I think of the left hand as the hair resistance on the strings that cause the right hand/finger movements. With the wrist the circular motion comes from the hand and arm movement with the wrist passive. But if you do the hand and arm movements right the wrist makes that circular movement. I read also that the wrist passively follows the stick as it moves from frog to tip… ? If you stiffen or try to activate the wrist the arm/shoulder weight can’t transfer to the fingers and to the bow. It’s happening slowly, less trial and error now. I know when I have the movements, intonation, and angles right. There’s a feeling of control with the whole bow moving in a silken groove of energy. The cello just bursts into sound. It’s addicting. Thank you so much!
