My friends and I, when we would watch Ger the Picture and GUTS, would often comment on how... stoned Mike O'Malley looked. Not always - which made it easy to discern between what appeared to be a visibly stoned O'Malley. Yes, we would be high watching this, too, but nevertheless. In one episode of Get the Picture, they came back from commercials with O'Malley eating a huge hoagie, mouth full and all 😄.

I can see why Get the Picture was the transitional game show that set the stage the bigger Nick game shows of the '90s. GTP was the 1st Nickelodeon game show shot at Nickelodeon Studios from the start. Double Dare, Finders Keepers, Think Fast, and Make the Grade started in Philadelphia or NYC. The production values are greater here.

I was that weird child who HATED slime & Double Dare. I greatly preferred the more clean and educational game shows. I dreamed of being on “Make the Grade”. As an adult, I’m GREAT at finding g things and would love to play “Get the Picture”.
@doryna_sira5 күн бұрын
Same here as far as the slime; I loved the question part of Double Dare, but being the, um, "husky" type meant I was terrible at physical stuff, so I know I'd have flailed around like an idiot on the obstacle course. I'm glad they had some fun shows dedicated to brain power.

That's because Nick basically IS Ron Swanson. He brought so much of himself to the role, it would be impossible to see anyone else, particularly because they would have pushed the character in a different direction.

Oh, I LOVED Get the Picture back on the good ol' days of Nickelodeon. I sometimes create puzzles on my community post to try to reinvent almost the same thing that the game show did. However, sometimes I thought the show would be unfair whenever the kids had to guess celebrities on the show. Unless if you know who the person was, most likely you're not going to be able to guess the picture. I was pretty good with "Thing," "Food," "Place," LOVED the heck out of "Character," but whenever "Person" came up, I would sometimes say "Fuck this" unless it was a generalization, like an astronaut or swimmer, or as I aforementioned, a celeb like Madonna or Whitney Houston. Otherwise, I loved the show back in the day. This, Nick Arcade, and Family Double Dare were my favorites.

As a freshman going on sophomore in high school, I actually liked this show quite a lot. Get the Picture had a very unique premise and for a guy who had no TV experience prior to hosting it, Mike O'Malley did all right with this show. Though I think he can be silly with his gimmicks and his announcing when a team's choosing of a square or line connection that completes a square would reveal a Power Surge challenge. I thought that was funny on the third example of such a feat when he overexaggerated on the announcement. "POWER SURRRRRRRRRRRR... RRRRRRR...RRRRRRR...RRRRRRR...RRRGE! It's a Power Surge." Now that was funny. Also with the long and complicated starts to a very easy question, that can be plenty of time to fool a team. But in the example here, both teams were so dumb that they didn't know that the answer to the question was in the question. Hello! He said "What are GINGERBREAD men made out of?" It's in the question.

I'm surprised by your positive reception toward the host. Friends and I've been watching this, and we're frequently surprised by his awkward rapport, frequent flubs... @mets1377815 күн бұрын
Its likely due to whats coming. He is much better on Guts and his energy is a great fit there better than here. Also O’Malley is one of few Nick game show hosts to have a substantial non Nickelodeon career, being a sitcom, character actor, and getting Emmy Nominations. Off the top of my head he’s probably the most successful host of this era and in a different way than Marc Summers. Thats why he gets a pass.

I never watched these gameshows as I didn't have Nick or cable and they weren't really a draw for me if I was at someone who had cable's house. I know Mike from the sitcom Yes Dear. I want to say that it aired on Nick at Nite at some point, but I can't tell if that's indeed the case or some odd level of serendipity manifesting in a false memory. All I know is Mike came back to voice himself as host of Guts on a Sanjay and Craig episode.
