Love your videos. Afraid I'm late to the party and ended up at this post a couple years late. The wrist action caught my eye because one of my favorites is a vintage Datejust with a silver-stick-marker, champaign-ish/silver dial and smooth bezel on a steel oyster bracelet. I thought . . . could it be? But, no! What on earth are the 3 6 9 Arabic numerals doing there? So, maybe Air-King ref 114200 circa 2010. Very uncommon. I never see them. Nice!

By the way, towers are phenomenal. The bass is excellent...very clear and defined. The bass design emphasizes quality over boomyness. You won't get extreme bass like in car audio. Still, mid bass is excellent, midrange is great, treble is nice. They seem to have a slight dip in the midrange. Soundstage is ok at low volumes. At high volumes, sound stage expands and they fill the room. It's fantastic. The towers are really designed for home theater at mid- to high-volumes in large rooms. That center channel is clear, but it really has to be pointed directly at you; if it's not you lose a lot of power and clarity. I have them set up in a large living room. For the new Blade Runner 2049, the towers and center channel are amazing. Electronic music is great. Classical music is great.

Ive been watching this channel for a few years now (early days I think). If someone told me the wrong speaker model I would have been talking back to the screen. However, with CAM, I was just like ("oh he means the C91 since I can tell from the speaker size"). It's just easier to go with the flow with CAM since he is so laid back and I need that...part of my therapy to be honest lol. I know this is an older video, but I also know that many watch the same videos several times. The only problem is that I tend to agree with this guy and now have a cheap audio addiction to add to my keyboard addiction. Own: Jamo C91II, Polk S15, and my Sony CSS5s (my top pick for shorter sessions since I haven't upgraded the cross over and they can be fatiguing after a while.

Perfect amount of “alrights and Ok’s”. I wouldn’t dare joke about something like that,,, perfect amount. ps I just got in the new emotiva ta-1. I like it. I had to boost the bass and treble a little for my gr research mtm encores, not a big deal just seems a little heavy on the mid to me. @st.thomas5802

You don't need towers but at $400 a pair I think the C95 towers are the way to go. And just about every speaker setup needs a subwoofer and you have an excellent one. They have a bigger, fulleer sound, don't require stands and are an incredible deal. Then grab a set of C91s for surround.

I bought these Jamo C93II after being a Wharfedale D220 fan. I always boosted the D220`s slightly in the bass and treble a bit but I loved there natural and super realistic sounding mid range for instruments. I have subs if I need more low. I hated all the other U curved speakers like Audio Bronze in specific, but when I heard these it was instant they were just like what I EQ`d the diamonds to. I still love the D220`s greatly but these after a few months have become the main speakers I use I can leave them Eq`d at 12 o clock. The Jamo`s sounded horrible on some recordings at first very non forgiving and stellar on good recordings but it has evened out after some break in and they sound great on most everything now. I`m more than pleased with these Jamo speakers.

I was intrigued by all the positive reviews so I got a pair of the 93 II's. After 3 weeks with these and I'm not impressed. With the "scooped" missing mids. It was like the Emperors new cloths. I was supposed to pretended the missing mids didn't matter. They do. These are missing so much of what makes for a rich musical experience. Clinical and sterile covers their sound. The one thing that stood out as good was the highs. The sparkle and sustain are excellent. The bass while anemic didn't sound bad there just wasn't enough. A sub helped and is necessary but a sub isn't mids. The Sony SS-CS5 is a better near field listening experience and my pair of vintage bookshelf Canton Karat 300's from 1987 kick the snot of both and sound better than the $3000 Kef Q950's that I was glad to see go out the door. The Jamo's are on their way back. Love your videos but the Jamos didn't work for me

Fun review Randy. I tend to like speakers that are fun and engaging to listen to. They don't have to measure well or have a flat response. They need to sound musical. I own Zu Dirty Weekend's and they sound pretty awesome.

They both have their strengths. The 500’s have the Klipsch sound and the forward presentation. These are a bit stepped back in comparison in the mids. Also think the Jamos have better bass at lower volume

If I had my drothers (DROTHERS ?), I would want a frequency response that really makes electric guitar be emphasized a little more and really growl. But I would know if I had that kind of response, when I'd play something acoustical or occasionally something classical, the harmonic overtone structure would likely be messed up. Most people picture frequencies wrong. Any frequency is made up of overtones (much higher in frequency) and undertones (much lower in frequency). It's the summing of these different frequencies that make a voice or note sound like whatever frequency it sounds like. If you don't have a relatively flat frequency response, acoustical instruments are not going to sound just right. Especially noticeable on acoustic guitars, flute,violins, and if there are peaks in the response certain piano notes will jump out at you with a thin sound with too much energy and it can sound harsh and not correct. Harshness is always "not correct" with acoustic instruments. Better not to stray too far from flat response if acoustic music especially, is on your menu. Having two different system or speakers which compliment either rock music and acoustic music is not a bad idea. It's not like us guys are really strict or something, we just know what is best for us on a wide range of music. If your sound is ultra transparent, those electric guitars will really be highly resolved and growl without any tricks of emphasis.

@@cheapaudiomanRandy, I have done a lot of experimenting with equalizers. I have a purist system now and wouldn't dare put anything extta in the signal path. You pay a price in transparency especially, and the degradation that an extra interconnect imposes on the sound. I have my frequency response where I like it. I am lucky to have a 9 foot ceiling for image height and the ability of the height to gel. It is an amazing learning thing (and fun) to at least once in your life, experiment with equalizers. I am sometimes tempted to try a Carver Sonic Hologram device. I once had the Carver C4000 which had a built in Sonic Hologram switch. You really had to live with it to appreciate what it did. Hi Fi News & Record Review (best one in the U.K..) said they thought there was more difference between Sonic Holography and regular stereo than between stereo and mono. Might be a bit of an overstatement, but the focus and depth were amazing; you couldn't listen without it. The C9 Sonic Hologram outboard device is better at width than the enhanced width "and depth" of the one in the C4000. Unfortunately the C4000 wasn't the ultimate for purity and refinement, but it was really fun. The Jamo's sound like fun speakers that many people would enjoy.

If a speaker that measures flat (ie it delivers the music as it was recorded) is boring aren’t you really saying the recording is boring? If the recording is exciting won’t a “flat” speaker deliver an exciting sound? Doesn’t a bright speaker just deliver more of what your musical taste prefers? Sort of an audio version of double stuffed Oreos.
@cheapaudioman
@cheapaudioman 3 жыл бұрын
Flat speakers are rarely truly flat and depending on what the listening levels are, a flat speaker at 80db will sound much different when it's at 90db. I should have done a better job of explaining. General statement which I should have explained better and not all "flat" speakers sound the same. It was simply an explanation that we shouldn't be ashamed of liking a speaker that doesn't "measure" well

@@cheapaudioman Sounds like you're describing Equal Loudness Contour curves aka Fletcher Munson curves. IMO that's an issue with all speakers to varying extents depending on frequency response which is why some AVRs have a loudness compensation such as Dynamic EQ on Denon/Marantz or YPAO Volume on Yamaha.

@@cheapaudioman Couldnt agree more with you last comment. Audiowise we like what we like measurements be damned. But still if a speaker that reproduces a recording accurately can sound boring doesnt that imply the recording is boring. PS you go out of your way in your explanations to make them relatable to the aversge guy. You made your point cleatly and i didn't read it otherwise. In a fifferent review ( A Fluance iirc) you described a kinda "boring" speaker but that really meant the tone was easier to modify to suit the music and it was something of an advantage.
