I don't know if someone has explained it already, but basically after the founder of the company died, his workers started to cut costs and boost marketing by taking the orphans and making them into extremely big, live toys. They had the toys come down and play with or teach the children. The toys didn't remember why they were this way, but the prototype did and told all of the toys to get revenge, hence the hour of joy.

btw for more lore.. the cardboard boxes of the smiling critters gives you an idea of how some of them died. Here’s some theories I’ve seen. Bubba elephant: possibly died to Catnap because when he screams he laughs, and in the intro when Catnap uses the red smoke they all hysterically laugh just like he did when he died. Kickin chicken: I’ve seen people say two different things. Either the group of critters had a safe place and when he left he died by catnap OR he left the actual building to the outside world were he was killed by the prototype. Crafty Unicorn: She yells because there was no more “red” but then she finds some. I believe that she was bleeding to death and the red she was using was her own blood. I think she was painting to keep herself sane. Picky piggy: She mentions how she eats different foods. Well she mentioned the chicken, elephant, and the unicorn. She resorted to cannibalism and I believe the rest of the group kicked her out because she was becoming insane from eating her friends. Now I know dog day said he was the last, but since there was no scream she might still be alive or she starved to death. Hoppy Hopscotch: I think that dog day the bear and hoppy were the last ones. He mentions about jumping and not looking at your feet. I think they had to leave their spot because it was not safe anymore, and there was a high jump they needed to make. In his last like he said JUMMMMP- assuming that he fell to his death. Bobby Bearhug: Now in these lines she mentions how she doesn’t want to be alone. I believe she was with dog day at the time. Where her poster was they might have been where the small critters are. Now I’m not really sure what happens to her, but I’m assuming they might have been attacked by the smaller one and is asking for dog day to stay with her. Dog day: now we see what happens to him, but his lines connects to Bobby bear hugs lines I think. He mentions why are standing here and telling someone to go and they shouldn’t stay there. I think he was telling her to go because they were being attacked. Then at the end his screams are much longer than the others because his legs were being severed off during that time!

For Bobby, her cause of death can be assumed to be just starvation. I've seen theories of the other SC's abandoning her for how clingy she is and thinking it'll weigh her down. Which if so imo she definitely had the saddest death since she would've died hungry and alone. For the ones who didn't scream like picky and crafty, it's assumed to be the same as Bobby. Aka starvation. Ik I didn't really add much, but I just wanted to speak on Bobby mainly!

Crafty Unicorn I believe got into a fight with Picky Pig, she was probably trying to kill Picky Piggy to use her blood for paint as you said but lost the fight and was eaten by Picky Piggy. As for Picky Piggy not screaming I believe they were either mercy killed by Dogday or killed by Catnap for being out of control

That’s why the game was forced to teleport her there for the cutscene, because she was already supposed to be there behind him. Berleezy got it really easy with that section. The final boss isn’t too much harder so i don’t mind that it glitched out

I suggest everyone watch a few lore videos, like from Tericho or somthing. There are a lot of amazing scenes Berlin missed by mistake when he kept turning and moving but it adds a WHOLE lot to the play experience. You don't have to watch any other play throughs, either. Berlin did fine but just watch some lore vids and the tapes. Some have uploaded all the tapes for those who want to theorize as well.

@@jonghoed Didn’t feel rushed to me. I don’t expect these gamers to know everything or even a majority of the lore from one gameplay alone. It’s the going out of the way to understand the story is what I appreciate, which is what Berlin said he did. You can’t understand a majority of the lore from the tapes alone in Poppy Playtime. Most of the lore is from the notes picked up around the factory and a lot of gamers that I’ve watched don’t even notice them and I don’t blame them bc sometimes you don’t know what’s accessible and what’s not in these games. Also some viewers don’t care for the lore or story of these games, they just want to get the gist of the game and be entertained. This something Berlin actually talked about in his one of his old videos. The pressure of being invested in a game while multitasking to entertain as well. You can’t please them all🤷
