Thanks for the content! I'm starting my IT journey with my 22 yr old son this month. We both are new to IT and are planning on taking on the WGU IT Management Degree once we complete all of the transfer classes with Study & Sophia. Unfortunately, we each do not have any existing transfer credits - so we'll need to knock out all available transfer courses (28) prior to entering WGU. I'm currently between jobs, so I can dedicate all my time towards this goal. Realistically how long do you think it should take for me to complete? I know its subjective, but just trying to set a realistic start date for WGU. Just subscribed, so I'll continue to follow your journey as well!
@tehczavier
@tehczavier 2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on taking the first step! I think you could realistically get the transfer courses done within 3 - 6 months. WGU on the other hand may be more like 3 more months. These are both conservative timeframes. But really once you get started and knocking out classes, it becomes a game that you find yourself engaged in the more you play.

Hello, and thank you for your questions. See my responses below. Note: I already had an AA degree l that I got in high school more than 10 years ago. 1. I decided on my major in August. 2. Met with my counselor in August, and she directed me to Sophia.org, I learned about Study.com elsewhere. 3. I completed my courses at Sophia and Study.com in a little over a month. My day-to-day was consumed with work and study. I would work 8 hours and study for six. I barely had a personal life. However, I told my family ahead of time that I would be like a hermit. I completed my degree in 3 months.

@tehczavier

That is correct. I mean technically you can take the courses, they just won't count toward the program that you are currently enrolled in. It's best to take all of the courses that you need by using my spreadsheet or the WGU pathways, and then once those are complete, you can begin the enrollment process with WGU. That way you are feeling rushed to get everything completed before the transfer cut-off deadline.

The only problem is none of the community colleges I want to transfer to (nursing programs) accept their credits. Hello, and thanks for checking out my video. If you look in the description of this video, you'll see some links to the WGU patners page. That's where you can find information on the courses ahead of time. As to your first question, I would say it "depends". If you're just getting back into school and, more specifically, online learning, then I would say start with Sophia.org and Study.com and try to get as many courses completed as possible. This will incur more costs on the front end. However, it could save you some money by preventing you from taking more than one term at WGU.

Apologies for the late reply. Great question. It depended on the school. For example, all of Study.com's exams were proctored, however the proctoring was not live, but instead some one reviewed the upload stream of your exam. For Sophia LLC, the courses that were "proctored" weren't done so in a traditional sense. Instead the school remembers your keystroke and uses that as form of authentication. Then the actual exam is open book and open notes. Lastly, for WGU, the exam was more of a final exam and it was always a live proctor.

in my opinion, it depends on the speed you want to complete your degree, my employer offers an education benefit through guild education and their best university is purdue for BS in cybersecurity, however i recently learned that there is a limit of 2 courses per 10 week term, and even if you finish those 2 courses before the term is over you cannot take additional courses. based on what i've learned i've decided to opt for sophia since based on what everyone is saying, it's possible to hit more than 10 courses in a month even working a full time job, as opposed to university where they give you way more materials and papers to write, along with them more than likely being proctored as opposed to sophia.
