Thanks for encouraging us ❤ with my morning coffee I jot down things I want in my life or I see myself in years from now ( helped getting the apartment of my dreams- got a car gifted etc) but at the end of the day I go over the next day - what are things I have to accomplish- and what would I like to do - I need lists and reminders on my desk and on my phone- currently sitting in my recliner glancing at my living room- a big smile and relief cause with your help I got here - I have floor space without cluttered boxes framing the walls - I still have more to declutter- but now I’m no longer overwhelmed- you rock girl ❤

Dear Cass. I want to thank you for your podcasts. A week ago, I was listening, and you encouraged me to get up and do something. I was actually sitting down at the computer, and I didn't really want to get up. Then I opened a desk drawer (which I already knew needed some serious help) and before I knew it not only the drawers in the computer desk were cleaned out, but also the two-drawer filing cabinet, and another desk in the same room! Want to know where this all led? Glad you asked! It led to Swedish Death Cleaning...seriously! It's something that I've been contemplating doing but never got motivated. Thanks, Friend. You are awesome the way you inspire! xx

It is very helpful for perfectionists when you say 5 minutes is enough and it's progress and it's better than it was. It really does help when it feels like too much and that overwhelm is paralyzing! Breaking down big lists into one small step and then stopping actually makes progress. Otherwise you won't even start because it feels too difficult!

It was law in our house growing up. No food or dirty dishes left bc it attracts bugs & rodents. So, thankfully I don’t have that nor laundry concerns bc I enjoy getting everything clean & put away. Still, my house is a mess. Every time I make progress, 48 hours is the longest it lasts.

Honestly, one big thing for me was when I just decided that I wouldn't do "The Most Urgent Thing" (ie cooking, dishes) while hubby was at work. I started to do other things that maybe weren't as urgent technically, but we're also important, had been procrastinated for a long time and would actually result in long-term progress (ie clean out the junk room, little by little, so the kids could finally move in there and out of our bedroom). Because we can't do that when the kids are home because it would just result in a catastrophy, but we can cook when the kids are home even if it's more stressful.

This is all full well. I have been doing this for months now, and I actually enjoy cleaning and tidying now, getting a real dopamine kick from it. Now unfortunately the procrastination has tacked onto other things. I now clean to procrastinate my work, or phonecalls I don't want to make... My house house has never looked better. Guess I have to apply the same principle for the other stuff now. 😆

Thank you Cas! This helps SO much! I have 4 kids.....3 if them 5 and under, so the constant interruptions make it hard to feel I have accomplished anything. Thanks for all the practical tips! I think the biggest thing I struggle with is moving past the bare minimum...........dishes, meals, laundry, child care. I have been decluttering and telling myself 5 min matters. It is getting better. Just takes time.
@Shmu222 ай бұрын
yes, when my 5 kids were all small I was told to try and do one thing each day that can't be undone ... decluttering, even for 5 minutes counts because you are getting stuff out of your home that you don't have to deal with any more. Other things are phoning a friend (or sending them an email), reading a book (for 5 minutes or a chapter), working on a hobby a bit at a time (I used to knit, now I scrapbook).

I have some to do items that involve other people. I need to hire an electrician for some repairs and call my phone company to fix the bell on my phone. These are some safety issues. The other things are financial and need to be done as long as I am in good health. Finally, I need to declutter my house (garage, storage building, basement, and bedrooms). My attic is a true mystery. What is up there? I think I'll ask a neighbor to go up there and take pictures of what it is, so I know if it's mobile or not. The decluttering I will do for 15 minutes with a 5 minute break, then another 15 minutes and so on until I can't do any more. Thanks for your videos, Cass, they act as my "therapist" in a way.

I use a similar strategy. I use a carabiner clip. I don't actually carry a purse, but I can clip them on my belt loop or on my shirt, or onto the basket that I take to the car when I am going to run errands. I still lose them sometimes, but I am getting better.

I started my decluttering journey about a year ago and am 8 months pregnant now with my 3rd child. I have made a lot of progress, but I feel anxious about what I still have to do. I want it completed before baby comes,but I don't think I can make it happen now because I have such bad pelvic pain that I'm pretty much on bed rest. How do I keep my motivation going after baby comes when I'm going to be wrapped up in caring for them and their siblings and everything that comes with postpartum?

If you need to hear it: You have permission to NOT focus on the house during the new baby phase!! Right now you're literally busy growing a whole new human, and that is enough. That "4th trimester" is when your priority is on baby AND your recovery! Take that timeout, _then_ get back to it afterwards, once you're sleeping and able again. Give yourself the grace to recover well 💗🙏
@persephonebasilissa51092 ай бұрын
Dana K White at A Slob Comes Clean recommends starting with - and continuing to focus on - your most visible spaces. That way, you'll always have something to show for your efforts! Also, she emphasizes that your house is not a project! It is routines. So follow her 5-step no-mess decluttering method to make real, no-backtrackable progress in small pockets of time. Congratulations and best of luck!
@catara992 ай бұрын
Hey hun! You have permission to give yourself a break. Look at how much you have done in a year, including how amazing you have done growing a new life, and taking care of your family! If you have people in your life asking you if they can do anything to help when the baby comes, say YES! And make a list of the tasks you wish you had time to do, then give it to them. If your other kids are old enough, you can ask them to do more of the routine housework right now to help you be able to take care of their new sibling and have time to spend with them. Many times my 10yo is willing to help me (without getting extra chore money) to clean up everything because i ask her if she can please help me clean up because i need her help today and it would mean so much to me. Our kids love us. and being able to do something that puts a smile on our face or gives us more time to spend with them, instead of cleaning, makes them feel important to us.
@EyeofSekhmet2 ай бұрын
@catara99 my kids are 4 and 2 right now, so they need me a lot. Any cleaning or organizing I do has to be in small chunks and it works if I do it enough. It's when I fall behind on the regular stuff that I have the most issues.
