@LoveSundays Жыл бұрын
Depends on the wattage of your kettle I guess. If it’s a 1800w kettle then yes but some kettles take 3000w on start up which would work with this unit

Hi Shaun don't forget yes you can go up to 3.5 ton ,but that includes 3 passengers if you have them and anything else you put in the van ,but most importantly it's the weight on the axles. If your weight isn't evenly distributed you could be over loading your suspension and more importantly your brakes .check your chassis plate to see what you can carry.

For anyone worried about weight seriously consider lithium over leisure batteries. The price has come way down lately, when I was doing mine I had a choice of 200AH of leisure batteries (£220) or 100AH lithium (£280) (pretty much the same usable capacity due to only being able to use 50% capacity of AGM), the most eye opening difference is the lesiure batteries came in at 46kg and the lithium was 5kg, a crazy amount of weight difference.
@garethwatts_ Жыл бұрын
Hmmm never thought of that , my roof isn’t as high as yours but mine is rear wheel drive so different gearbox prop shaft and a live back axle . I must be a similar weight, I’ll go to the scrap yard and weigh some metal in they weigh you in and out so that saves me the £8.40 nice vid

Great video, absolutely agree people need to get their vans weighed. I did get my van weighed to find I was right on the 3.5 t limit. We did fully load with water (77 l) had wife riding shotgun. The van has also got electric/leg heating and hot water, solar, 4 ring cooker with 25l lpg under slung tank. It was kitted for us to live in for long durations so wanted it to be comfortable. Bottom line is we also wanted to carry bikes which would have put us over the limit so decided to get the van related at 3.85t to ensure we are legal all that was needed was air bags on the rear also put heavy duty rear springs. The advantage being the tax for private hgv is less than standard, disadvantage is you need C1 license to drive it which I already had bot now I know even if fully loaded I will not be over its weight limit, axel weights have also been checked and are OK. Hopefully down to Cornwall soon but have to wait for my broken knee to mend😢 keep up the videos.

Another important factor regarding weight is reliability. The fact is most vans, although built to carry a maximum weight of say 3.5 tonnes, are not designed to permanently carry that weight. Most vans spend their working lives only partially loaded and are built that way. Carrying the max allowable weight all the time can lead to excessive wear on mechanical parts and stress on suspension, brakes and chassis etc leading to expensive repair bills, not to mention higher fuel costs. As a long time campervanner i have learned this the hard way. My advice is keep it light as possible. Don't carry crap you are not going to use, just essentials. I never carry spare gas cylinders if my bottle is half full it's good for 4 weeks so no spare on shorter trips. I dont travel with a full water tank, I'll fill up when i reach my destination. I will also do my food shopping close to my destination. I've also learned to avoid external fittings on my vans like external awnings, roof racks and luggage carriers, solar panels etc. These cause extra wind resistance when driving and can mean extra load on your vehicle. These things make a huge difference in practical terms particularly if you do high mileage. Hope this advice helps some of your viewers.

Hi shaun its the scratched record here 🤣 i like the idea of heating the van with batteries BUT it will not work heaters are so power hungry you will get away using it in short bursts but if you are winter camping and it needs ro be on most of the night keeping the van no lower than 15-17c you will need gas or diesel heating to keep the van usable in the winter. I am just saying from lots of experience. And three van builds.thought your van would be under weight its looking good now. Stay safe buddy safe travels. The scratched record 🤣🤣

Hi Shaun, Ford put a button on your handbrake to save the mechanism, please please use it 😅!! Great video and glad the van is underweight.
@challengerunningltd Жыл бұрын
Actually the button is for releasing the handbrake and there is a risk when you hold the button in on the way up that it won't click into place properly. I always use the button but for the final click I release the button to ensure I hear it click in to place on the pawls. If you only release it at the top it can rest halfway on a pawl. Plenty of good info on the internet on this.
@patagualianmostly74378 ай бұрын
@@challengerunningltd Wrong! It needlessly wears the ratchet mechanism, there is no reason NOT to press the button when applying the brake. One pawl above or below where you release the button is negligible. You press the button, raise the handbrake until you have resistance, release the button and lift one or two clicks more. Brakes in good condition? Sorted. (Edit: Don't take my word for it....I have only been repairing vehicles for over 50 years.)

Over here in Germany, you HAVE to re-register a commercial van as a campervan, to do so you HAVE to go through a new MoT (tüV), the weight is calculated with a full tank of fuel and full water containers, a person is calculated as 75 kg
@quanchyplimp5 ай бұрын
You will find your van already weighs 2200Kg or more unladen, leaving you, 1300Kg as you pay load. Add 2200KG and 1300KG and you get 3500KG = 3.5 tonnes. You can add a pallet of bricks with a few bags of sand and cement, anything more, you will likely be overweight. Not sure I have ever seen a van conversion where the builder has weighed everything from the start.

As a HGV driver, I always had faith you'd be ok 😉, it's a cleaver thing to do tho,,. Another thing van owners get caught out on are speed limits, it's ok if you have two wheels at the back, but, if you have 4 you have to do commercial vehicle speeds , eg, 60mph on a dual carriageway 👍🏴😉

The weighing was interesting! You said you kept track of what you put in the van. Will you reveal how that compared? Did it add up? Did you math everything slightly heavy so you wouldn't be overweight? Cause in the vid, you seemed relieved, but not really that surprised! 😄 I'd probably math every board and plank 10% heavy and never count a single screw or guess the weight of paint. But then again, I'm both lazy and paranoid! I'd probably use that 3 ply poplar super flexible light weight stuff to clad the walls and ceiling too. Weighs next to nothing. Coming from the theater business, I've come across some interesting light stuff. Some with interesting physical/structural/insulating properties as well. Like canal plastics. You'd be surprised how light they are. If you don't want it transparent, just dust it with spray adhesive and glue on fabric. Great if you want to paint it too. Just remember to caulk the ends of the canals, so the air inside is trapped. Or if you're gluing on fabric, wrap a little around to the back.
