I have had this height issue for years, too. When my width is perfect, my stitches are always too tall. I found a different video that explained about too much "lift" in that bottom loop, so I tightened up on that loop. The result was my stitches were still somewhat too high and my width was off because my stitches were too narrow. I hold my hook like a pencil, not a knife, so I don't know if that is part of the problem. This is why I really haven't made very many clothing items over the years. I just can't get the gauge right and it's so frustrating to put in the hours and money and end up with something I can't wear. Pulling my hair out right now...

This is a very helpful video - thank you. The problem I have is although I would remember to make my stitches shorter at the start of a project , I have a feeling that as time went on I would gradually revert back to my usual stitch height!

In what way do you mean? Within the same project? Definitely if your stitches aren't regular heights. Across different projects? Yes if you're not conscious of any adjustments you've taught yourself to make.
