What about the content? I'm starting a service offering social media management. But I'm confused about the photos videos. Do we have to create these by physically being at the location of the bussines? Or do they create them and we add captions ect? I only work with local businesses

Great question! It's out of scope for a social media manager to go on site and create the content (you can charge for that however), but otherwise you coordinate content with the client, create a guideline on what you would need in terms of video or photos, and the social media manager can take care of editing and graphics for social from there!

should you offer your services for free when pitching your services to your very first clients?

It depends! If you have no experience and want experience, you can simply accept a volunteer position in social media on volunteer.org but after that you at least want to be compensated for your time (give them a discounted rate perhaps) and go up from there. I don't believe in "free" work
