Great Big Story

Pączki is Polish for “delicious.” Ok, not really… But with its deep-fried dough and sugary jam filling, it might as well be! Sylwia Tomaszkiewicz’s great-grandfather created a secret recipe for pączki that’s still a hit in Warsaw-so much so, the family bakery churns out about 800 to 1,000 of them a day.

I am Polish, I love pączki but not all of them. Actually the ones with jam and frosting on top is my least favorite type. Also a lot of bakers make pączki very greasy, which is a no-no to me. Last year we got a store in my hometown which makes excellent pączki - not greasy at all, fluffy, and with suuch cool fillings - coconut, halva, mango, so good!
