Great post! One thing I would add as an essential check is to make sure no cabinets/drawers have moved while in transit BEFORE extending your slides. We learned this one the hard way because everything seemed latched when we left, yet a drawer slid out enough in transit to pull the trim off our slide when extending it. 😔

I’d also suggest a good water pressure regulator with an adjustable gauge. Good video with excellent suggestions for newbies. ☺️

I was going to make that suggestion... This summer so far, there have been a few RV parks with warnings about water pressure!

What should you set the psi on the water regulator?
@allanmen3 жыл бұрын
Mine is set to 45 PSI. I have spoken to some who go as high as 60, but that is a lot of pressure for plastic fittings and piping. Where you will notice a reduction is in your shower. I almost always opt for the campground bathrooms for that anyways.@@barbaracallahan4095
@loriw26613 жыл бұрын
@@allanmen I also set mine at 45 psi. It’s plenty of pressure for me.

Great advice. My husband is the camp host at our park. He has dealt with so many people making mistakes or not having a clue how to even set up their RV. Filter screens in the hose are a great help where we live. The water is not great and when the park shuts the water off and turns it back on we always end up with long green grassy gunk in the screens. It goes right through the filters we have and plugs our hose. I'm sure theres not many places that have that problem. but we do.

Thank you for watching and commenting. What a gunky problem to deal with there! You can never do enough to protect your water because you never know what you will run into at your next stop. Thanks for sharing!

We just got back from a long trip. Been RVing for many years and still make mistakes. Our first stop, yes we got all set up only to realize the sewer hose was too short because we parked too far up in a pull through site. Our last overnight was after an 8 hour drive. We get all unhooked and set up. Hubby plugs in the electric and nothing!! After checking all the breakers, ( and yes, we do use a surge protector) hubby finally figured out there was no power at the pole. Normally by now I've walked the whole site and am usually the one to first see the business side of the site. Not that day. It was a another pull through and the golf cart escort got us situated. The dog needed a potty break so I wasn't on my normal side of the camper. Hubby goes to the park office to complain. The electrician showed up and explains the power pole which was sticking about 2 feet out of the ground was old and out of service. The electrician then pointed out the beautiful brand new pole standing about 4 feet out of the ground and right beside my husband 🤦🤦🤣😂. Yep. That happened. So from now on no matter what, I'll will be sure to do my job by getting out of the truck and guiding the hubs. Even in pull throughs. 😁

After unhooking at a campsite this summer with our new 5th wheel, I found sand in the screen on our pressure regulator that was connected to the water spigot. It made me wonder what was able to pass through. I always connect an inline water filter after the pressure regulator. I'm sure it saved my system the first time out.

If towing a 5th wheel and parking in a pull thru and you do not plan to unhook for the nite make sure your truck and trailer are as straight as possible so you can open the tailgate and/or front storage compartment all the way. This just happened at the last campground (we dont go to rv parks much) resulted in extra time since we had already deployed slides, etc...

Talking about your RV slides and how you should position your rig when parking in your assigned camping site. I noticed an RV had extended their slide into another site at Grand Haven State Park. I thought it was very selfish and potentially unsafe to extend your rigs slideout into another campers site. If that would have been my site I would have complained to the park rangers.

My first time setting up after purchasing a Grand Design Reflection 340RDS. I parked the unit right where my brother and I agreed as he guided my onto his driveway. When it was time for autoleveling the unit lifted the two right side tires in the air by 2". I contacted LCI tech and was given the reset for my leveling system. It is difficult to see all the wheels while leveling. Lesson learned.

No mistakes so far, thank goodness, BUT … I can say that a surge protector that diagnoses the electrical hookup has proven essential. My first trip out, the post was incorrectly wired and my surge protector diagnosed it before My rig was put at risk. My parents thought my investment in was unnecessary, but I met them at a park just last week and the post on their site was incorrectly wired. Thankfully, they’d taken my advice and purchased the same surge protector, which saved the day AND their rig!!

#1 got us real good. We arrived in Key West in an absolute downpour. The site was tight....REAL TIGHT! we eventually got in. Unhitched. moved the truck out of the road. Setup the sewer, water, power, awesome! went to open the slides.......too close to a tree. We sat there drenched trying to figure out a quick solution. No options....we had to disconnect everything, re-hitch up and move the rig 8" over. Lesson learned....never again. We check every time now.
