Jaime is the MVP in Storm of Swords for me. I'd say the Epilogue is my fav but... it's not a main POV. So gonna go with Jaime. Tyrion is my fav in GoT and CoK, Jaime in SoS, Cersei in FfC, and Jon in DwD. So for the most part I love the internal conflicts of the Lannisters.

Jaime's probably the best character in the series, at least for me. I just feel, with his backstory, and outlook, he's by far the most complex, misjudged. His personality is just such a joy to read. His transformation is so amazing as well. He's probably my favorite character in both the books and the show.

I think any author in that situation would want their book to win so it's understandable that he would be annoyed. It mostly depends on how he reacted in public. I like your reviews and I won't spoil anything, but Feast for Crows is difficult for some people because it doesn't feature three fan favorite characters and introduces new ones. Dance with Dragons is really just part 2 of the same book because they run (mostly) simultaneously, and introduces yet more characters. The books highly reward re-reading though, there is so much well written foreshadowing. On my first re-read of the entire series I enjoyed the last two books MUCH more.

I don't get the hate Bran chapters tend to get. I mean, there were only 4 of them in ASoS, and they were all really good, with the first one being a slight exception. In the second chapter Meera tells important back story regarding Lyanna Stark, Rhaegar Targaryen et al. The second one is the one in the tower where he sees that other character you mentioned, and the last one is an awesome horror-novella style play on LotR moria chapters.
@Jjames123412 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about Robb,the downfall of Robb started when he send Theon away,not Catelyn.I just feel much hatred is directed to Catelyn while other characters like Tywin(a murderer) gets so much love.
@MrReded6912 жыл бұрын
I guess Cat and her brother Edmure Tully get more hate than Tywin because they were supposed to be Robb's supporters but they ended up dooming his cause in their own way. Cat's foolish release of Jaime made Robb look a fool and led to Karstark's rebellion. Edmure's disobedience to Robb cost them the best chance they had to trap Tywin's army. Cat and Edmure both acted foolishly for selfish needs. Cat trusted a Lannister to save her girls and Edmure craved personal glory. Tywin was just his enemy.

@@210SAi There is a lot going on in Feast, but the problem is that people forget that George doesn't waste words. 1. Character development: if you didn't see it then you must be blind: look at Brienne, Jaime and Sansa especially... they are true masterpieces in terms of characters 2. complexity of characters: literally every character except Areo Hotah is incredibly complex and layered (yes Arys Oakheart too) and don't forget to look at Cersei and Euron, especially Euron... He is definitely one of the most important villains in Asoiaf if not THE most important (if it comes too humans), and even though we don't get to know much about Areo, he has a great Watcher PoV... did you notice that Sarella is Alleras Sphynx? or that something is up with Marwyn the Mage? you better start to care about them, there seems to be a lot of stuff going on in the background we don't see because unreliable narrators, but we get sooo many hints especially in the sense of magical elements (glass candles, magical horns) 3. best prologue in the series. watch analyses of it. We get a lot to know there... more than you realised... 4. prose: the broken man speech... I mean every scene with Septon Meribald is top notch, the kingsmoot is a masterpiece 5. Dorne: Arianne is a very complex character... and you probably think why the whole mission of putting Myrcella on the throne was necessary if it just failed... Darkstar *cough cough* oh and it is a great introduction to Arianne herself and the many character traits she portrays, her last PoV chapter in feast is AMAZING and also building up her character more if you didn't realise 6. there are different sword fights, the one with Biter and Brienne must be my favourite in the entire series, Victarion's fight scenes are WOW... The Reaver chapter was just amazing in general... 7. EURON EURON EURON AGAIN you should definitely check out some essays about him 8. Lady Stoneheart 9. "Throw this in the fire" 10. Cersei being imprisoned 11. Littlefinger revealing his ambitions 12. The braavos storyline and the build up for the Faceless men in general... some of my favourite quotes are in these Arya chapters... I adore her story line in that book 13. Jaime and Ser Ilyn was very interesting there and the whole Riverrun thing in this book is amazing... George wants to do something with Blackfish here... 14. gravedigger, also one of the best chapters 15. the whole world building in Braavos... in Sam's and Arya's chapters is phenomenal... I felt like I was there 16. Dang Samwell's last chapter is the most mysterious one I think... I also really loved everytime Aemon appeared and also the idea of the baby switch... 17. Jaimes talk with Genna 18. Cersei's past and Maggy the Frog... her paranoia is extremely entertaining in my opinion... some other interesting characters are in her chapters too... Even though this book doesn't have that many action scenes, the dialogue is at its best in Feast... And the world building... I understand some people not particularly liking brienne's chapters, but I am interested and fascinated by the world building in those chapters... And her complex character... She obviously matters to Martin and to me too... If all of that stuff in thos book wasn't important, he would have put everything in one book... + there is a purpose on how he separated them... he wants us to go into book five with the knowledge of book four especially the things relating to magic... the complexity of all of that and how it is all connected with the other books is insane... Did you realise the parallels between Euron and Bran? I wish I could write everything what is in my mind right now, but I am too tired at the moment

If you thought Catelyn and Bran were "boring as always", you need to go back and read stuff within the context of the later books. As for Catelyn, I actually like the insight for the inner workings of things that come with her, I know everyone hates her, but she is still the smartest female character in the book(Dany? Cersei? Hah! Read the later books)... in fact, Robb's reign as King of the North would have been much more comfortable had he actually heeded his mother's advice.

I just finished the first 2, and am starting STORM today; I really loved CLASH (sorry to disagree), and whereas I usually stop after a large book and read a couple of smaller books (sort of to flush my head out from the time and concentration, and usually a Louis L'Amour western or a Richard Stark/Donald Westlake crime novel, so really really shorter) I was so impressed by CLASH that I'm jumping right into the next one. +Bastard 137 I mean I loved the chapter where Meera was telling him the story of the Crannogman at the Tourney at Harrenhall. Side note: we get that chapter, a chapter about Lyanna, then we get a Davos chapter where the Red Woman talks to him about Azor Ahia, AND THEN!!!! It's followed by a Jon Chapter R+L=J and Jon is Azor Ahia subtly confirmed XD

I've been watching the show, but I really want to read the books, too! They just showed "the scene" this week. You know what I'm talking about. I don't know if you watch, but if not, it was intense. And there was no music during the credits. It was probably almost as horrifying as what happened. Or intentionally silent so all of the viewers had time to really absorb all that had happened. Either way, I always love books more, so I need to get these. Thanks for the review!

Great review! A Storm of Swords is my fave too. Blew me away! Personally I don't find any of the characters or chapters boring or insignificant. It's a long story and it's gonna go 7 books. So something that seems boring or insignificant is really pointing toward something big later on. Even the big major turning points or deaths of major characters and plot twists are just so because of those chapters previous that seem to mean nothing.Great post. Its great to hear other G.O.T. fans views.

uh hi.. i wanted to ask you a question.. could you tell me if there is a difference between these two books and if yes, what are they? and do i need to read vol2 too before going on with the 4th book? and is vol1 just the standard version of"a storm of swords" or? it would be so nice of you to answer me this, since i can't seem to find this out on my own haha uhm yeah.. thanks!

It took me a whole hour to sort of overcome the shock of the RW. I remember it was 3 am and I had to go for a walk to cool off my head and get a snack. When I came back, I had to continue reading, I couldn't sleep.

+Worst Scenarios A Feast for Crows. You hear about him in Dance but he's not there. He'll probably have important shit to do in The Winds of Winter since season 6 is based off that, and Pilou Asbaek is supposed to have a big role to play.

I know you can't say much but I was diss appointed by comments on Haines story line. There is so much deepth most readers agree this book makes him arguably the most complex character.

Same here, ACOK had a lot to offer, even after watching season 2. I'ts actually my second favourite book.

So I bet you loved Dany and Arya in season 7. I loved Arya and Brienne sparring. Dany's field of fire 2.0 was amazing too. I disagree with you about Bran. His movements have perhaps more purpose than any other character. I loved this review though. Best book I've ever read in the high fantasy genre.

I don't doubt Bran's purpose but damn, it can be hard to read sometimes.

Whahaahahahaaaaaa?? Sansa is "playing the game"? Sansa is the definition of "piece" in GoT if I ever saw one, there are indications that she MIGHT someday become player, but not too soon. Players are such as Doran Martell, Littlefinger, Varys, Ilyrio Mopatis, Tyrion, Tywin, Queen of Thorns. The rest are pieces.

I really liked Davos' chapters. He's one of the most laid back characters in the seasons but has trouble being the Kings hand because many think him a traitor for being a follower of a "broken" king. He has ambition and wants justice for his sons.

I don't think she ever becomes aware of what is going on. After all she participates in Joffrey's assassination without ever once realizing what she's doing, nor how badly she's being used and manipulated by the Tyrells.

I completely agree with you, 90% of the time I stopped reading it was when I reached a bran chapter.

Ahhh but again as I said above.... Clash of Kings . .good example of what I mean .. .it seems to drag but remember ... Storm of Swords is really also Clash of Kigns ... Martin said it's overlapping. Storm of Swords couldn't be as dramatic as it is without all those slow burning and seemingly boring parts of Clast of Kings. For myself I try to just think in terms of what each chapter is leading toward. It could be something 3 books ahead. Everything has a punchline in G.O.T.

I was halfway into a shift at work and had to stop reading for the rest of the night. One character was one of my fav, and alot of "supporting actors" as well

My only complaint...finishing it has likely ruined my watching of season 4. I tried to stop. Even put it down for a month, midway through. But then the previews started... And I told myself one chapter wouldn't hurt...then two...then... OMFG. I feel like a binge drinker...so ashamed...yet so very, very satisfied.

I've gone through em all and I agree- A Storm of Swords is the best - A dance with Dragons is definitely my second favorite followed by A Game of Thrones - A Clash of Kings and Feast for Crows are a distant 4th and 5th- it's like all the odd number books are awesome and the even numbered ones are "meh"
