You missed what BLOK M has to offer, Blok M square there’s “buffet style” canteen, just like warteg all local cuisine, several kiosk offer this for around 20.000 depends what items you pick, some even offer red rice/brown rice. Visit this place an hour before lunch time, you got everything fresh and not a lot of people yet. And during night time you can go BLOK M mall, a lot of street vendor selling litebeef curry tapas type, small portion for 10.000 located outside around the mall, crowded with people enjoy this as a lite meal after work. Ride a MRT from BLOK M to BLOK A it’s only takes less than 4 minutes to Pasar Santa

1. For everyone that wants to try the street foods, I urged you to let your stomach prepared to accept street foods from Jakarta. My friends from Japan and Norwegia had a serious stomachache because we buy a batagor. One trick that works for me is that buying local yogurts and eat them. let your stomach rest for a while, then try some snacks. 2. You missed Kempinsky for tourist dinner, and Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih for dinner as well. You should probably try that. 3. Jakarta is a streetfood heaven, BUT the second floor of streetfood heaven is Bandung.

Streetfood in jakarta is dangerous for those who are not prepared, my friend got diarrhea for a week from drinking some ice tea on the street, the bad part is he's not even a foreigner just some regular indonesian from other city. Even I myself will probably not eat any jakarta's streetfood ever, I don't think my body is prepared, at least until I change my opinion.

For Sundanese style food you should definitely try Ikan Bakar Cianjur. They’ve been around for almost 30 years and they’re very consistent with the quality!

You are tempting me back to Indonesia with these videos! heh, about 20 years ago I spent 6 weeks in Jakarta. I enjoyed most of it, but every time I tried to eat fresh (uncooked) veggies, my digestion paid the price. Nasi Goreng is still one of my favorite rice dishes - though the Peruvian version is also a strong contender. I agree though, it helps a lot to have a local guide to get around as well as help find those interesting and tasty places.

Jalan Raya Mangga Besar also has some really good sate babi. The dinner buffet at the Grand Hyatt is amazing too. No particular place, but look for "ayam goreng tulang lunak." Also check out basically any Masakan Padang restaurant and get rendang, tempe (pronounced tem-pay) and a perkedel.

As someone who live at Jakarta, if you what to ride a bajaj, make sure it's short distance. Because we have policy that Bajaj can't enter the main road such as sudirman or gatsu

In your video I saw that you went up to my neighbourhood Mangga Besar Raya. Next time if you visit there you should try visiting a small Chinese restaurant called Tio Ciu, while small, the quality is top notch and its one of the best chinese foods you can get in Jakarta for cheap, best do it at lunchtime or just before dinnertime though it is very crowded. And for anything Indonesian one of the commentators suggested Ikan Bakar Cianjur, and that is also one of the things on top of the list of recomendations, especially the fried tofu.

This such a well-rounded video of Jakarta. I have mix feelings for the city, but after living in Toronto for a few years now, I really do miss it. Fortunately, the opportunity opened up for me to fly home and I can't wait to eat the food once again, and going to the places I grew up with. It's the things you don't get to see and enjoy as tourists, which makes Jakarta so special. Hopefully you had fun, I know I will :)

I live here, and though they don't serve Indonesian food, my favorite restaurant in the city is easily Roma (at sequis tower). The prices are a bit high but still very reasonable. There's also a legendary restaurant called "akiaw" that's also at Mangga Besar, I always visit when I'm in the area

sate padang doesn't have chicken. it used to have an option of beef, tongue & intestines, but now most places only offer beef & tongue

Yeah especially with water and drinks. No ice, capped drinks. Food freshly cooked and hot should be okay but don't use the stands... At least that's what my family told me back in 91, not sure if it changed.
