@@way9883 Yes Dutch people eat a lot of sateh/peanut sauce with their food, especially fries. (look up 'patat oorlog'). But there are also more interesting Indonesian inspired dishes, look up 'rijst tafel' for instance. Or very wide and long kerupuk (lange kroepoek).

those birds are not for food, those are homing pigeons. people kept them as pets and its quite a popular hobby. delivery food are usually cleaner and have higher standards because they can be penalized if you got stomachache and report them to the app. you can get cheaper delivery by paying about $0,5 subscription fee and you get 60 discount vouchers / 2 weeks. quite handy if you are in Indonesia for a long time and often order takeout.

we use peanut sauce on a lot of things. raw salad (karedok) /cooked salad (gado-gado and lotek) dressing, indonesian siomay (stemed fish dumplings), batagor (fried fish dumplings), ketoprak and kupat tahu (rice cake + fried tofu + vermicelli + bean sprout), cilok (tapioca ball with many different fillings)

Indonesian here , in term of diversity is obviously both of Indonesia and Philippines are same as a diverse nation in SEA , we Indonesian or at least on Twitter jokingly called Philippines as The Indonesian but Catholic version because how strikingly similar we are. But yes you guys are more westernized compares to us, we do still preserve alot of ancient culture even the pre colonial clothing is still being wear occasionally.

Natives yeah, but I notice from my 3 visits there are lots of Japanese, Korean and some Chinese too though classed as minorities. My partner is Chinese Indonesian (so Indonesian citizen but many generations ago their family came from China) I'm told the Japanese and Dutch occupied the country amongst others

Believe me, if you spend $10 in one day you will be very happy. Everything is cheap in Indonesia. All food is only $1-$2. The most expensive is only in well-known restaurants.

Yeah when you're there it's all very cheap even accommodation, but if coming from the west the flight is what will set you back the most. From UK for example you can expect to pay anywhere from £560-1000+ depending when you travel. That's 3 years ago info it might be more or less now

Food are cheap in Indonesia because our wage is still low. For instance in my city, the minimum wage for most office employees is roughly 300 USD/month, mind you when I say office employees, I'm referring to "mid-tier" ones, as others aren't so lucky and had to scrape by.

Hi, Jimmy. I believe the reason why Nasi Padang have so much rice in it because in Minang culture they believe when someone buy a take away Nasi Padang that means they will eat it together with at least another person. Thus why a lot of Nasi Padang restaurant will add more rice to your order if you choose to take away. It's their culture.

Quite a lot of the delivery food vendors in Indonesia are actually regular restaurants that opt-in for the app to increase sales. The mindset is that they're essentially takeaways, so the quality should be of the same standards as their restaurant counterparts. If the taste is bad on delivery it's probably also bad on dine-in lol.

While I enjoy Jimmy's videos, I gotta say that sometime his humor tries to be so edgy it kinda gets a bit cringe. Like how he's always making fun of "body positivity" movement and people who are overweight. I mean, I get that he's joking and I personally like a bit of dark humor, now and then...but when you make jokes like that, IMO you're just "punching down" and kinda makes you come across conceited & mean, and like you are overly focused on self-image. I really don't think he's intentionally trying to be negative or hurtful (at least I hope), but sometimes it gets a bit much and make it kinda hard to watch the video. LOL, sometimes it makes me do a double take and re-watch a portion of video, because the comments come out of nowhere and I'm like "wait...did he just say that?:...Sometimes, I don't know if he's just joking or if he's being serious and that's the way he really thinks. But maybe I'm thinking too hard into things (which I admit I've been guilty of more times than I care to admit lol), and/or I'm just the odd one out, but I was just wondering if anyone who watches his videos feels the same ( Just wanted to add...I do, in a way, appreciate his honesty, as there's few thins more cringe than being fake and pretending you're some kind of saint who loves everyone and doesnt ever have a bad though, when in reality they couldn't care less.
