I literally created one of these about a year ago while sorting out my elderly's Dad's house - except his is a giant box, LOL! We both have ADHD and it's Everything Everywhere All At Once otherwise. 🥴 There are so many oddment bits and bobs that other 'helpful' people would have thrown out if it were up to them, but I know that replacing those key important bits would be quite pricey (as well as disappointing).

Finally advice on how to organize EDC and knives! My husband loves knives and my mother in law keeps buying me organization books to help with clutter, and as much as I love tips on baking zucchini bread with ingredients fresh from the garden I don't have, Marie Kondo/Martha Stewart just do not speak to dealing with having an influx of warranties, tiny metal unknown parts, which is hard to remember when you got it yourself, and impossible to organize when you are trying to do it on behalf of someone else! We both grew up with messy parents and want to be neat but learning how is challenging when it seems most people in the minimalist/organization space either don't like or straight up fear knives. This is exactly the video I have been needing, thank you!

I like your idea of of the little baggie that you can write on. I've done something similar. I repurpose those baggies that come with little items and then place a sticky note on the inside as a label. The description is written on the "backside" of the sticky note so when I put it in the baggie, the sticky note stays reasonably flat against the side of the bag while everything else is behind it. I have tons of sticky note pads and it is easy to repurpose those baggies that otherwise just get thrown out. YMMV. Thanks!

@small-armstrainer8666 Love this idea! I too have these baggies in every size and save them for vague upcycling projects, along w those useful little packets of silica you get w vitamins. I use post it notes instead of file labels so your idea is a brilliant tweak for me.

Thank you so much. I think I needed to hear from someone else to realize that these were methods to keep things in order. The Don’t Know Seems Important container makes so much sense, as opposed to my habit of putting it to the side and then when I realize “I saw this item, where is it…” I’m lost. And using labeling a baggie with spare parts (and maybe assembly instructions) sounds much more practical than trying to bundle up the torn open bag it came in, and having no set place to put it. I think this will make a difference for these things, but also my general approach to a more organized home. Thank you again.

I've donated mostly everything this year that had a home in my home, AKA, in my "zones". My keys, purse, couch, TV, couple lamps, small dining table, a chair or two, my bed, another lamp, another small chair for my bedside table, a few pictures are enough now. Other everyday necessities I want away in a closet or cupboard. Knickknacks just for the sake of visual interest are now very rare. It's interesting because it looks like I can not afford many things. It's just now I cannot afford, mentally, the many things I used to own (or that used to own me). Another perk is I finally found out why I could never keep up with my kitchen. Now that I have less of everything in there, naturally I have less to clean up too😉.

Fellow ADHDer here: Along with labels on the containers, getting CLEAR containers is best for us - because when we SEE just ONE item in the container we remember the *full* contents of what's in there (just like how we know all the contents of our doom piles, even the things covered so fully they can't be seen), while sometimes our brains will gloss right over labels. (I'd also recommend smaller labels than what Maurice is using, so more of the container's contents can be visible.)

I’ve been using the rule of threes for years, I have a box with a lid on my desk labeled “Small Desk Stuff” and I have always put parts in baggies and labeled them. @user-xw2np3dl3f if it helps, creating this set up is a process. It may take months or even years to fully develop it. Work on the most urgent things first. Like maybe you don't have the energy to sort through things, but you want to reduce the visible clutter. Let's say you're tackling paperwork, stationery and miscellaneous small items. Have a bin for each. Then on another day, sort through one bin. Let's say you start with the paperwork. Your goal isn't to sort through all the paperwork down to the T all at once. Group the paperwork into general piles that will require further sorting later. So let's say one stack is bills, one stack is school or office work, one stack is low priority. Again, on a different day, sort through one stack. This way, you're not expending all your energy into tackling such a huge project and burning out halfway through.

1. Replace your cables in the power area with shorter, just what you need lengths (not too hard to find). Coiled cables can get hot and catch fire in that un-ventilated cabinet. Also, less clutter. This is also the answer to home theaters and those pretty desktop setups. 2. You may want to buy a nightcore 4 slot battery charger (does the 3.7V lithiums and AA/AAAs). Buy a handful of AAs and AAAs (the eneloops are good). Just replace batteries as needed. When your supply gets low, buy another handful. Eventually, you won't need to buy batteries ever again.

Very good tips. A few more from similar system I use. - clear shoeboxes as containers. Looks more cluttered but they stack and you can easily locate things inside them without digging around -a put away bin. Helps the night time ritual to have a box that things you used in the day go into, you then empty it at the end of the day to clean up. -a misc bin. for thing that don't fit other categories. Once filled find any correlation between objects ( pointy, small, etc) and sort from random bin into a new bin with that category.

Wow, thank you soo much for this compressed stack of information. I think I have to view this video 3-4 times again to notice and remember all information. But the idea of the system is great and exactly what I was looking for but didn't know until this video. I will start thinking in zones right now.

Suggestion: keep the background music muted. In my opinion it just adds audio clutter that makes it harder to fully input what you are saying, which is really good!

@@lb4lov I’m listening at 1.75x speed and the volume 3/4s of the level and can hear fine, that may help, in turning the video volume down

I really like the uppdatera boxes, I use one in most rooms as a drop off box for used cups, plates, empty yoghurt containers etc - anything that's to be taken to the dishwasher or kitchen trash. It's efficient, and all that stuff being in a dedicated place makes it acceptable to be around.

You can use painters tape to label. I prefer this so I am not waiting to do a project. But I can make better labels when i have a bunch/am getting inspired.

I’m an organized artist, but I’m also organized semi hoarder of art supplies, and paper and I feel this important to if you’re gonna have a bunch of stuff to use it if you’re not gonna use it to give it away, but I still have a lot of stuff and it doesn’t look as organized as yours because I’ve had to buy pieces over the years and just utilize those also structurally I have shelving shelving that a lot of stuff that I have are heavy canvases and mainly, and so those things tend to be heavy and I didn’t want saggy wooden shelves. but if I had the money for sure would have organized the way you’re organized, but I do believe in labeling everything having its own container and I love plastic containers because they are bugproof. They are waterproof and they contain the whole project so it’s a win-win for me great video.
