@@StinkyGreenBud @StinkyGreenBud I think that fully understanding the importance of casting Ricard Dawson requires watching those old episodes of Family Feud. On Family Feud, he had a "nod and a wink" kind of "family-friendly naughty" humor that was prominent in the 1970's. Some shows (like Match Game and 3's A Crowd leaned hard into it). I think a lot of youngsters would besurprised at what was being broadcast. Dawson was (in)famous for kissing every female contestant. Producers felt it was unseemly and sponsors wouldn't like it. This was likely a lie, as the problem was most likely the fact that he kissed black women on the lips. A survey was done to see if Dawson's kissing should be stopped, and audiences overwhelmingly voted to keep the kissing.

The novella 'The Running Man" is one of my favorites. The first chapter is called "Minus 0100 and counting" and ends with "Chapter 000" and the ending of the novella is E-P-I-C. All these years later, I still remember the ENDING. Read it if you can, You will not be disappointed.

A "hero" that soviet union really pushed to kids back in its day was Pavlik Morozov, a kid that ratted out his own parents. Totalitarian regimes love to turn family members against one another, then it's a lot harder to organize any kind of resistance, if you can't trust anyone. Former East Germany opened up its soviet time records of government informants. Plenty a spouse were informing on their significant other. Imagine finding that out after spending a life with someone.

Fun fact: Arnold served in the austrian army as required by law...he asked for permission to compete in a bodybuilding contest. When he was denied, he went awol to compete and he won. He tried to sneak back, he was caught and thrown in the stockade. When his commanding officers found out about his win, word spread throughout the base and it made him a hero. The officers released him and he was allowed leave anytime he wanted to compete again.

Great movie. One of my favorite Arnold movies it is so underrated. It was overshadowed by the the success of Predator that came out at the same year. Other great Arnold movies is Conan The Barbarian (Arnie breakout role and a epic movie with epic soundtrack), Twins , End Of Days and Collateral Damage. Fun fact the leader of the resistance Mic is an actual Singer of the Fleetwood Mack a famous rock band. The bad guy was an actual show host. Fyi the novel the movie is loosely based on was written by Steven King but in my opinion 10 times better than the book. You skipped allot of good parts in the movie and the great one-liners.

Richard Dawson. One of the greatest game show hosts in history. As Killian, he played the evil psychopathic version of himself. It was (and still is) great watching him. Surprising that there were other people that Vivian didn't catch either. Mick and his young assistant...2 famous people. Mick is Mick Fleetwood, one of the founding members of the rock group Fleetwood Mac. His young assistant is Dweezil Zappa. The son of legendary musician Frank Zappa. Dweezil is an accomplished musician himself. Just 2 of many big stars in the movie. The scene where the Captain Freedom vs Richards match. That wasn't AI. While video editing software now may have some AI functions to edit videos, back in the 1980s, video editing software had no kind of AI function. And even with how they were editing the video, AI wouldn't be involved in type of editing anyway. You can still do video editing without using AI functionality, regardless of what is promoted by the media. Choice...that was one of the main themes of The Running Man. Taking away The Peoples' choice to do what they want, tho say what they want, to think what they want. Vivian is right, we are there, in a way. Reality TV and Social Media with influencers. It is a lot easier to lie to someone...or maybe I should say it's easier now to distort the truth. There is so much information out there, the problem is the majority of people won't do the work to find the right source of information with the right information. MMA. Not everyone loves MMA, even many martial artists. But, that is a whole nother subject in itself.

@@w1975b Edgar wright has a great sense of humor but more importantly hes a very talented screenwriter and director. He understands the fabric of filmmaking and what makes stories worth telling. edgar isnt someone who would just do a remake as a hired gun. He doesnt roll that way.

And before that "Price of Peril", a short story by Robert Sheckley. It introduced the "Killing Game" into SF and there are two movie adaptations made in France and Germany. This movie took more inspiration from that one than the novel by Bachman/King. Note: The German one was made for 1970s TV with a real gameshow host playing the host and some people at first thought it to be a real game. However, because they messed up the rights, it wasn't available for a few decades, when they could publish it on DVD.

This was loosely adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name and released the same year as Predator. The actor playing one of Arnold's friends is also in Alien and the Bond film Live and Let Die. The actress playing Arnold's eventual love interest is also in Predator 2. The rebel leader is played by Fleetwood Mac founder Mick Fleetwood. Fireball is played by NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown

By making a closer adaptation of the Richard Bachman book. I love this movie, one of Arnie's best, but calling it a "loose adaptation" is a vast understatement. Really the only things that stay the same is the names of Ben Richards and Killian (who's really just a TV executive instead of host), and the concept of a Running Man game show (and even then, the game's structure is completely different between the two...) Casting Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters) is already a good sign as Ben Richards is just a normal fit guy in the book and not a massive bodybuilder like Arnie... Again, still love this movie, but very excited to see it done more accurate to the book also...
