The first incident of the ring finger getting cut due to the Hidden Blade was when Bayek tried to assassinate a member of the Order for the first time. After that when Bayek established the Hidden Ones one of his trusted generals had cut off her finger to show her commitment to the cause. Ever since then, Assassin's had been following this tradition up until Altair and Da Vinci modified the hidden Blade so that it won't accidentally cut the ring finger. The Italian Assassin's still burned a mark on the ring finger to show their commitment and keep up with the tradition. Although this wasn't followed by the French Brotherhood.

For some historical context Jaby and to the others reading this, the game is set in 9th century Baghdad (capital of modern day Iraq) in the Abbasid Caliphate during the "Islamic Golden Ages" where Baghdad was the largest, most advanced in terms of culture, science, philosophy and other things as well as the most populated city on Earth at the time. The game is said to also (not all of them could be in game but some of them) contain some important historical figures like Al-Khawarizmi (known as the "Father of Algebra" as he made Algebra what it is today. And yes he did do it thanks to mathematical data from other great mathematicians of the past like most notably the brilliant Indian mathematician Brahmagupta which Al-Khawarizmi did metion in his works), Banu Musa Brothers (who made advancements in mechanical functional machines, an impressive feat of Engineering), Ibn Firaz (who made advancements most notably in Astronomy alongside Medical Science and Engineering) and several other important figures of this era. This is something you rarely see in games today (as it's either something related to either Europe, North America or Japan) so it's great to see some actual underrated and overlooked Middle Eastern representation not many westerners and even easterners known about. Plus, this AC game will be going back to it's original roots like AC 1 and the Ezio Trilogy so that's also a big factor why most people are excited for this game. As always, nice and honest reaction guys!

They're finally going back to their roots for the series. If you weren't familiar, then well you won't get this sentiment, but the last three games have been RPG-ish open-worlds, with little to no Assassin story. But Mirage seems extremely promising- the most promising thing is literally that it is not an RPG! As for the finger-cutting, yeah the old Assassins had to cut their ring finger off so the Hidden Blade would operate smoothly. It went on for a long time until Altair and the others realized that their enemies were able to recognize the Levantine Assassins by their missing ring finger. And so Altair redesigned the blade, but the design for the new Blade was finalized by Ezio and Da Vinci. After that there was no more need to cut off the ring finger. The Italian Brotherhood still followed some kind of ritual which marks them apart, but other Brotherhoods like the Victorian one or the French one pretty much got rid of this tradition entirely, replaced by a sort of "communion" where they had a special drink to celebrate a new member in the Brotherhood (which can be seen in Unity during Arno's initiation). Btw, the game is set in 860 BC Baghdad. Also, yes they are doing away with the Animus thing. With AC Infinity, they're kind of making it like *you*, the player, are the one accessing the Animus, and not a in-game modern protagonist. As for the point of modern day, the modern Assassins are hunting down certain powerful artifacts and people, which is why they need to access the memories of their ancestor which interacted with the object or person. Though truth be told, as you said, it is annoying to be pulled into modern day, which is why I think the idea of you the player availing the services of the animus is cool.

Yes, there will be no present day sequences in AC Mirage and it will be a mostly narrative-driven story. Basim was one of the titular NPCs in AC Valhalla (without spoilers) and this game is set about 20 years before the events of AC Valhalla (mostly unrelated to it). The in-universe lore for the Animus has changed quite a bit. TLDR; you don't need the actual person anymore to access their ancestor's memories, a sample of their blood is enough. Thats why Abstergo (in-game conglomerate) has now made that entire genetic memory thing an interactive VR experience thing for most commercial users (Helix Project) while they use an advanced version of Animus in secrecy for their own shady stuff. That shady stuff is what AC Origins, AC Odyssey and AC Valhalla are about.

Mirage is based in Baghdad so it will concentrate on the Abbasid Caliphate which covered all of Arabia, Cairo and some parts of northern Africa as well as majority of the Middle East. The time period should be 8th to 9th century and it's the perfect time period as during that time, there were other factions in the region trying to assert control and plenty of spying was done from everyone. Secret agents, double & triple-crossing and assassinations were par for the course in that region during that time period all the way till the Ottoman Empire rose into power. And if they keep up with the Templar themes in the game, then the Byzantine empire is perfect for it since they are situated directly beside the caliphate.

The Animus is a tool made by Abstergo Industries (which are modern Templars) where you can access ancestral memories through DNA. The goal of Abstergo is to locate and acquaire the Pieces of Eden (that were created by Isu, who are ancient and highly advanced species of humanoid beings who lived before humans) by using Assassin remnants as subjects for Animus, for them to control over mankind or ending the human race and start anew. The AC Lore is really good. Ubisoft just butchered it and now with what was happened in Valhalla, I think they are trying to fix it. I don't know if it's going to work though.

The first hidden blade (in AC Origins) has a design flaw where blade could cut ring finger if not actuated carefully and that's why Bayek (one of the founder of Assassin Brotherhood) lost his finger, so from there it became a symbol of dedication and faith towards the brotherhood and every new recruit must participate in this ceremony of sacrificing ring finger. But later Altair fixed this design flaw and then instead of cutting off the finger they just started to burn a stamp on the finger with red hot iron stamp.

The caliphs adopted many Sassanid administrative practices, such as coinage, the office of vizier, or minister, and the divan, a bureaucracy for collecting taxes and giving state stipends. Indeed, Persians themselves largely became the administrators. It is well established that the Abbasid caliphs modeled their administration on that of the Sassanids. ACHARA and JABY, As much as I am happy to hear that there is going to be a version of ASSASSINS CREED in Baghdad, I am very annoyed at what the company is doing. After the announcement of this trailer they announced the increase in the prices of their games. How can anyone defend price increases on digital games? Remembering that the management of this company will release the game SKULL AND BONES on November 8th, a much criticized game and leaked information indicates that the game is broken, a game to be released one day before GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK.
