Just as a tip if following to learn: "Mateirals" Menu in 3D view has to be set to "Default->Metallic Roughness->Parallax Occlusion" before saving template. If you get an environment map (new versions of Adobe Substance designer 3D), go to "Environment" menu in 3D view, then select "Reset Environment", then click on base material and Select "Reset and Show in 3D view" instead of what he displays to get the grey cube back.

That was a good, straight forward tutorial! Only critique would be when you do something tell us what button you are using. For example, when you opened the search menu, tell us you are pressing space bar. Or when you are adding the ambient node to the histogram that you need to click the histogram then add the node.

Great tutorial. Easy to fallow, and to those who said it's too long for the subject, may I recommend changing the playback speed, not everyone works at the pace of a ferret on a triple cappuccino. The speed is just fine for those who are starting out.

Hey there, so if u bring in any textures into SD u will be able to use this template to work with them. However, this setup os generally used to visualize a Height map for tiling materials, so it may not be the best setup for dealing with unique textures, if that is the goal. :)

Hi, is there a reason you view the base materials outputs in 3D instead of plugging the outputs of your base material node into the overall materials outputs or is it just a personal preference? Thanks for the content btw :)
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert, good question! Pretty much comes down to personal preference, there's no functional component to it that you must do before you can make your materials. It was a trick I picked up from official Substance tuts, actually. It just helps you focus on creating your Height map first, so that you don't get ahead of yourself in the creation process. For me, it prohibits me from thinking about my Albedo before I really should be thinking about it and I find that helps my workflow. If you want to follow along with my tuts, you are more than welcome to simply plug in to the actual outputs, helps you skip a step. And thank you! Im happy to help out. :)

Hmm I don't understand what I did wrong. I followed the tutorial and did everything and also did what Night Wintertooth wrote in the comments but I just can't see the template file show up in the new substance graph -> graph template list.
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes when I add a new template I find I need to scroll down in the Template Dialog Box when starting a new project. As well, in your preferences make sure after you set the file path to where you have saved that sbs file that you hit the "Apply" button before you close it. Otherwise it won't save your changes. Finally, just take a second look to make sure that the file path you are linking to is the right file. :)

Hello, when I click on PBR (metallic/roughness) template in the very beginning of the tutorial, the template in my computer does not have height and ambient occlusion channels in it and when I clicked on the pbr metallic roughness option a glossy black cube appears as an object and not a matte gray one. May I ask how I can solve this problem?
@GetLearnt

Interesting, which version of Substance Designer are you currently using?

@@GetLearnt oh hi, thanks for your quick reply. It says Substance Designer 2019 1.2
@GetLearnt

@@ulkutuna Oh weird. By default it should come with both an AO and Height output node. And just checking again, you're positive you're using the PBR (Metallic/Roughness) template, instead of something else? When you click on the template in the little pop-up window, on the right side it will show you which outputs you will be getting when you load that template. In that little window, when you select the PBR template, does it tell you that you will be getting either the AO or Height outputs? :)
@ulkutuna
@ulkutuna 4 жыл бұрын
@@GetLearnt Do you mean description and graph outputs sections? In the description section it says"Template for physically based rendering based on Base Color/Metallic/Roughness workflow. To be used with physically_based shader." in graph outputs section it goes like "base, normal, roughness, metallic, height" sorry I thought height was also missing but in this case only AO is missing and when I click on the template there arent two nodes in a row connected to each other like in the tutorial, but there is only one of each one of these 5 nodes placed in a row (except AO) and they look transparent (checker texture). and the cube looks black glossy.
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 4 жыл бұрын
@@ulkutuna Ya, I was referring more to the Outputs section, I just wasn't sure if you would be able to see whether or not it was saying there would be an AO output, and then not place one in your graph. That's really odd, I'm not sure why it would do that. :o So the way I see it, you have a couple options. You could try and redownload, see if that makes a difference. You could simply add another output node, in its parameters change its use-case to be Ambient Occlusion and then make your own template setup. Or lastly, with having added an AO output yourself, you can continue on with the tutorial to make the template that I use and then never use the PBR one (I don't even use it, I use my own templates for all of my projects). :) Sadly I'm not too sure the best approach, to me it seems like you may be encountering a bug so a fresh re-install may be required. Otherwise, the other solutions are definitely viable, but may be a bit of an inconvenience depending on your comfort level with the software. Sorry that I'm not able to help out any more than that! :(

I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone else that might be running into this problem. I'm using Designer 2019.2.2 and when hitting the spacebar to bring up the search function in the graph view, not every node is found there. Doing a search for the Histogram Range node this way, came up empty. But, searching for it via the Library tab, I was able to find it. Actually, searching for Histogram, at all, via the graph view, came up empty.
@GetLearnt
@GetLearnt 5 жыл бұрын
So I'm not sure when this happened, but I believe SD now does "contextual" searches where it will display only certain nodes when you are searching with a node highlighted. I have done searches for a Histogram node of some kind and found nothing, however when I unselected the node and searched I was presented with every single option. You might be going through the same frustration I have been, I'm not sure why SD does this...
@MastersRage
@MastersRage 5 жыл бұрын
@@GetLearnt Ahah! That's it! I just checked, and you're right. If I have a node selected when doing a search, it won't necessarily show every node. But having no nodes selected will search through every node in the program. Thank you!
