Ten of Cups 1 and 2 are both paranoia and 4 is schizophrenia
@tenofcups69676 жыл бұрын
Daddy's .Princess verse 1 is debatable but the first 3 or 4 lines are indicative of anxiety. Like I said all 4 verses are laced with paranoia. I don't see schizophrenia at all. Maybe the first verse but not more than anxiety and paranoia. Schizophrenia is characterized by disorganised thought. Explain how verse 4 is schizophrenia. He starts that verse in the midst of a hallucination. The listener doesn't know if drugs, something he ate , smoked, lack of sleep, or any other mental illnesses caused this hallucination. Schizophrenia is not the only thing that causes hallucinations. Schizophrenia is sometimes seen as the extreme of paranoia. But it's not. Paranoid schizophrenia is a specific type of schizophrenia. Not an extreme. The most successful people in life are paranoid. Look up Steve Jobs greatest quotes. Now the song as a whole could be seen as schizophrenic because of the happy beat and difference between the verses. It has a disorganised feel as a whole but each verse independently is whole.

This is one of the most important songs in hip-hip history. They were rapping about mental health in the early 90s: PTSD, paranoia, the stress that comes from success, depression, emotional isolation, suicide, hallucinations, schizophrenia, all spread out over four different and distinct stories. Geto Boys are all-timers for this one.

When this single dropped I was a senior in HS, '91 I believe. Today, the subject matter is no big deal for a Hip Hop song. but at the time, it was ground-breaking. Rappers didn't really write songs about stress, regret, fears, etc. If they did, it was a buried B side, not the single pushing an album. I loved the way these guys rapped, very jerky and abrupt. they were not smooth, but they were real. You could feel it in the bars. Guitar lick samples were catchy as hell, too. It was dismissed at first by the media music reviewers as a Texas NWA rip-off. But you could tell that there was a diamond in the rough. With a bit more production value put in to developing the act, they might have had broader appeal.
