the mission to extract data from makarovs base - the data would have proven that shepherd knew about the Airport attack by makarov but chose not to intervene, causing WW3, which he needed to get the US fully militarized once again. he also wanted to remove the stain on his name with the failed invasion and the nuke in MW1

The only thing I hate about Shepherd is whe kills ghost and Roach I know he did it for his country and as an avenge for his 30000 men but there's no need to do it! Despite of this the character is amazing and the voice act is so incredible.
