If this succeed then it can be a great thing for gaming consoles. There was a time of consoles like ps2, ps3, xbox 360 when you didn't needed to install the game onto the console from the disc you've bought. The entire game used to be fit on the disc. This was the time when blu ray discs were new in the market. If this technology succeeds then definitely not a petabyte, but creating a small size version of these discs which can store atleast like 500gb of data would be enough to saving the feeling we used to get from using discs and making collections (ahhh good old days)... And yeah ofcourse sharing your games would also be a lot easier.

Only lastly 2007/2008 born children know what is CD as well as DVD in India. I am 2007's and till now have CD and DVDs kept properly and even have Parent's wedding videos but on CD not DVD. But with changing time, In Class 5 (2018) I have transferred the CD data on pendrives like the wedding videos. But currently there's no any CD/DVD Drive in any PC or Laptop of mine and only have one SD (Standard Definition) DVD Player of Sony S700 something model, which is in store room and works fine. I used to even watch my parents wedding videos 🤭 again again on CD, And some DVD movies also I have. But I don't know, DVDs came out around 1998 and why in India it didn't become much popular, The first DVD bought in my home was in 2013/2014. So lately... Do you have any idea?

It was like beating around the bush just to make video longer. In short, it is AIE-DDPR which allows researchers to encode data to 100 layers compred to 3-4 layers on normal disc. They have also managed to write and read data from spots around one-tenth the wavelength of visible light compare to current laser technology which is limited to wavelenght of light. Lets see when we can have it on our desk.

one thing still to notice, this storage is non volatile, where as flash storage in parallel with higher frequencies of processors are faster provide faster serial communication of generation USB 3.1 and many more to come. such CDs can be good option for OLD and non recurring data, but not for daily use.
