If we combine addition and subtraction does the same even odd rule apply? Such as (-2) + 4 + 8 + (-4) will be positive?

Although it definitely works for this example, it won't always work out that way! You can think of it like the positives are steps to the right, negatives are steps to the left. (-2) + 4 + 8 + (-4) How many steps in each direction? Right (positive): 4 + 8 = 12 Left (negative): (-2) + (-4) = -6 Then, imagine starting at 0 on a number line. You take 12 steps to the right, then 6 to the left. So you end at positive 6. But, if it was (-10) + 2 + 5 + (-1) Right (positive): 2 + 5 = 7 Left (negative): (-10) + (-1) = -11 So, 7 steps to the right of 0. Then 11 steps to the left. This ends us at -4 on the number line. So you could give a positive or negative in that case. Great question! Hope this helps 🙏🏻
