I genuinely got a lot of satisfaction out of watching this inflation-bro throw a tantrum as he loses his money. He wasn't adding any value to any of the games he was buying just by them being in his possession, he was just trying to inflate their prices and make a profit by being an unwanted middle-man between the original seller and somebody who actually wanted the games. I really hope the same thing happens to every inflation-bro who's been destroying the retro game market.

I keep coming back to the mindset of - being a collector FIRST is the best position to be when participating in collector's markets. If I end up overpaying for something, my mindset is always "oh well, cool piece in my collection." I don't really see it as a big loss... obviously not ideal but still a cool piece to add to the collection. The biggest benefactors of collector's markets will almost always be the collector's themselves because they learn and buy organically, not for the sole purpose of making money. All of my best "investment" pickups was stuff I bought because I wanted it in my collection, not with the sole purpose of selling it for profit in the future.

I think it’s fair to say the wata’s pop report played a hand in tanking the market. Seeing that there is 600 copies of different variants of smb3. Plus you’d would have to assume vga being around longer there’s around 6-800 the rarity imo would tank

Great point. With how fragile things are in Europe concerning the economy with gas and heat rationing going on due to the war I wonder how many Europeans are participating in these graded games auctions. Things aren't as bad in North America and Canada compared to Europe. I believe it's a night and day difference because if North Americans and Canadians were getting rationed with gas and had to worry about heating their homes in the winter people would go into survival mode. Maslow's hierarchy of needs, people will shift their spending in a NY minute.

They deserve it for utterly destroying the ability for most common people to buy old videogames. Wata is also part of the reason why it's happening right now. Wata got caught and a lot of gamers/collectors are finding out what,how, and why this is all happening now? Most people selling graded are not even gamers or collectors they are investors so if it comes crushing down next year they'll just go to the next quick fix of making that money. I still believe rare and hard to find games will always carry certain high values but from what we've seen over the last few years it won't come back my opinion.

The problem I see with WATA graded games is they're trying to make the used/retro game market into a stock market which is going fail because most wouldn't pay over a few thousand dollars for a sealed copy where there is no guaranteed results that they'll make more money if lucky they can break even. So the main point is these guys should focus when to sell just like the stock market because when something get popular again it better to cash out at that time.

A lot of this is the economy it’s not just games on eBay. People are broke, and charts don’t lie. Savings are down per family, credit card accounts and debt has soared and that all ties in with gas, food, rent etc. 2018-2020 were hot years but vga and psa cards have dropped 30-50% in value in some areas. It’s sad because games listed 2-3 years ago would have sold like hot cakes. Now they sit there with the usual, 50 views 3 watchers for months if not years.

Thank you man for helping paint a picture of the sealed video game market. I am curious of this: there is 1 graded copy out of 212 Pokémon yellow games with a Walmart movie ticket attached to it. Is it really that rare? Would this be the legit 1st print?
@GetTheGreg
@GetTheGreg 2 жыл бұрын
The actual print variant is the same so I don't think people would differentiate it as a "pure first first", but rather just a variant that you can find of the first print. Depending on the time gap between pokemon yellow launching and the movie launching, perhaps it might even be a later variant of the first print? I'm not positive how those dates line up. It's really cool nonetheless!

If its an investment you sit on it but hey... he has twitch viewers and probably make tons of money by making videos/streams like that. its like these game collectors here on youtube ... I mean, if you make tons of money over youtube, ofc its super easy to do a complete ps1, n64 or switch collection, you can just buy it. the issue for a normal collector is not overspending or wasting money NOT that they cant find x,y and z. so once again, if you have money its never an issue. my point is: this dude probably made the money back or even more by making these videos or streaming on twitch, so he is fine anyway. but for a normal investor? this make no sense at all.

Here’s my two cents. Nes super Mario sold over 67 million copies. Imagine if everyone graded all 67 million and tried to sell them at 500,000 a piece an impossible scenario for sure. Have to know your games know the very few out there that people would pay a premium for. Not every graded game is worth buying or grading for that matter. If I had the money I’d buy a cib nes little Samson at premium before I buy a yoshis island at premium. Know your games people know the games history and why it might be valuable. Every console only has a handful of truly rare special titles worth any price. Out of 3 or 4 thousand games maybe 20 can be considered highly sought and worth grading.

What goes up must come down, and more often than not, at the same speed. I neither sold of bought at any different rate during the boom and I'm glad I didn't. You're not as affected by market turns when you only buy things you want to keep, disregarding value. I gave in and cheaped out just as much lol. Personally, I think it was 50/50 sealed collectors and investors at the start of the boom, then got to 20/80, and maybe we're at 40/60 now. It depends on how you classify these people tho. Nobody wants to be called an investorino but I think more people than those who care to admit are still collecting with value in mind, in practice _collecting investments_ that can stay or go

So basically the Plattsburg collection was a disaster given the timing. When these new collections were released turned out to be horrible for investors. This coupled with a declining economy and speculators of all types dumping too much inventory on a finite market.... well this is where we are 🤷‍♂ Maybe downhill from this point though, time will tell. It feels like 2008 and Citibank at 99 cents.

If it was called "The Cleveland" collection it wouldn't make any difference as to how I would bid on it. The guy who owned it at one point is Joe Schmoe is far as I'm concerned. If the previous owner is someone the average Tom, Dick and Harry has heard of then that's a different story.

Yup. Huge "gain" (in monetary value) after 3 years, though. Still the same great games at the end of the day.

Yup. Time horizons for analysis are extremely important. Of course I can't cover everything in this single vid, but compared to 2017-2018, basically everything is doing incredible haha. This is a much more "current environment" analysis.

Console games are going down... Computer games are going up. Facts. At the moment, the prices have increased 2-300% for game titles made in the mid 80's. Covid was a chance to get good deals before the shipment costs skyrocketed when ebay took over that part of the deal. UK prices has gone up a lot. US not as much, but still increased compared to pre-covid. The rest of the world is a mixed bag. I prefer Germany (if sellers send abroad) or Australia (good currency rate compared to USD/GBP/NOK) is a good region where you can score good deals. BIN are often heavy overpriced, just fishing for that one person who want that title NOW. And they are out there. Very picky, only buying already high valued games - stuff it if price is high. The 1970 generation has gotten good jobs, kids moved out & dad is working on his "mancave" of 80s stuff.

I remember when you said DVD games needs to be almost perfect grade. A lot of 9.4 sales are tanking. Pokemon box 9.4 A+ for example sold for $2600 which is low because a complete used copy sells for $1400 to $1800 any day of the week

Although I'm not into graded games I do love sealed games I got sealed games they are like art and yes I do have the games I have sealed opened to play. I noticed the store owners say they don't sell and they even bundle it in as a special with other games I want and I love that. I saw one sealed Japanese game in a store for the Sega Dreamcast or Saturn I think It was going for like around $ 100.00 or under not graded looks cool the art. Cool video. ^_^

I think it’s absolutely hilarious That guy is one of the many idiots out there that was in the hobby only for the money. All us real collectors knew this was gonna crash. Wanna know why? Mainly because the games he was buying at high price were no where even near rare. Lol. Does he thing Mario rpg is a rare game? Nope. They made tons of them. Lol. I say the speculative idiots out there are getting exactly what they deserve. Great video and I love all your content. Keep up the great work.
