That's a great idea! 😍There's no life without bees. How can I put bees in mine back yard or roof in Brookyn, I and neighbours have plenty flowers in the gardens. Thank you.

Best way is to take a beekeeping class it’s a lot of work to keep bees 😀

There is life without bees. Honey bees are not native to North America. There had been life here millions of years before they arrived. And you and your neighbor do not have enough flowers to sustain a bee colony. No one does. It takes millions and millions. I also doubt a bee colony will do well on a rooftop. Too hot. Not enough shelter from wind.

I’m lucky here in suburban Los Angeles that my neighbor started an urban farm and recently added bee-keeping to what’s on her plot (we have 1/2 acre lots). My neighbor is growing everything from mushrooms to salad greens and heirloom veggies that she sells from the farmer and at the local farmers’ markets. While you’re right about the European bees, they don’t work in the rain for example, the native bumblebees just aren’t plentiful enough. (To their credit, they work in all sorts of weather conditions)

It’s my friends building. You have to register the hive with the city and the state. 😀

@@gardenfork thanks for the answer. I haven’t been to Queens inn over twenty years…since my grandmother moved away. I enjoy seeing the backdrop as you travel the city. One day I’ll bring my wife back again.

No, its way too cold up there in the winter. Much easier in Brooklyn, plenty of nectar and pollen sources and warmer winters. thx! ERic.
