While the video was being recorded, Tyr was off camera watching his dad during much of the video! Tyr really has a great connection with my husband, which I think is true of many dogs of this breed. The way Tyr looks at my husband is as though his dad is his entire world.

They still come see him once a week. I can't say "nana and pop pop" without the dog losing his mind either. I said their names to him the other day and he sat by the front door and waited for an hour. At least an hour. I finally called them and put them on speaker phone. He wasn't happy they didn't come but was ok. Lol.

Thanks for the video, I was getting tired of seeing a lot of the other videos about the breed on youtube. Very informative, please keep on doing your thing! The rescue dogs sound like a real challenge especially with these dogs, I wish you the best on that and appreciate that you care about them enough to devote that much time and energy into that cause. 👍

Will do. And thank you very much. These guys are just 200lb dogs with a bite force more than a lion.. so yeah, they have the potential to do some damage. So does a hammer, but it can also build a home.. all in how they are raised. It takes a lot but is worth it!!

Sure. Just drop him off at the house!. Lol. Congrats. Eric is a great guy. Glad you found him. Top 3 tips, right off the bat. 1) socialize. Find someone who can be super close to your dog or you never get to go on vacation again. 2) use a high quality food. These guys need higher fat than protein when young. 3) make a routine... you do it or they will. With týr, if you do something 2 days in a row, day 3 he is expecting the same thing!!! Enjoy your puppy. Email me with any questions. Tyrtheovcharka@gmail.com Congrats, Joe & Týr

Hey. We fed týr a mostly fresh meat diet. We still do. His food bill is almost embarrassing. Lol. I would recommend "dyne" as something you can add to almost any meal to add nutrients that they need as a puppy. You can get it on Amazon. Not very expensive and lasts a long time.. smells really good too. I've been tempted to try it but never have. I would recommend adding that to whatever food you choose. It will make a good food great and and great food amazing for nutrients. Seriously. Email me if you have questions. KZbin comments dosent tell me when týr gets a new comment or reply but his email will ding and let me know someone has messaged me. Thanks Joe & Týr

Wow, what an awesome pup you have there - thanks for the video! What you say in terms of "passive resistance" and natural "guardy-ness", as well as loathing being locked into a crate, seems a feature Ovcharkas share with Estrela Mountain Dogs - as well as their looks, ok, Estrelas being half as massively built! But the similarity is STRIKING. Thanks for the insight your video gave me into my own 4 month old Estrela-pup - indeed, as mostly independently-working lifestock guardians, these breeds must know they can't do their job when locked up...

Your videos are a great overview of the breed, great job. My bed question is what is their drooling situation like? Are we talking St. Bernard or Newfie level or are they more like Pyrenees where it's not bad at all? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey I put a short video on týr's Facebook page couple days ago where we went shopping for his food. It shows pretty much how bad his drooling is. Or rather how his drool isn't that bad. I mean I let him sleep in my bed and my sheets are not wet in the morning. His page on fb is "Tyr the Ovcharka"

So I bought a brother and sister. Any tips for teaching 2 stubborn Ovcharkas to listen when they are playing at just under 4 months? 😂
@march01995 жыл бұрын
Is there any way to stop them from being food aggressive? My mom got a pup that is 50% Caucasian Shepherd and whenever there is food around he gets aggressive with their other dog and my dog so we have to make sure they aren’t near each other. Even if we have meat in the counter that he can smell he’ll snap at them.
@aerialgod014 жыл бұрын
It's a difficult thing, depends on the general attitude of the dog. But animals will generally fight over sharing food.
@vihaze67253 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of videos on KZbin/info online about food aggression. In my experience, most Ovcharkas are aggressively protective of anything they perceive to be ‘theirs’. Teaching the dog to wait before it eats is usually a good start in teaching them food manners.
@march01993 жыл бұрын
@@vihaze6725 thanks for your reply. He is definitely protective like that. He’s even attacked our other dogs when the other dogs try to go near “his people” when he’s in that state of mind. It’s quite frustrating and still haven’t been able to get a handle on him.

There are some large dog breeds who could work in an apartment, would this breed be okay in one?
@tyrtheovcharka97714 жыл бұрын
That would really depend on what kind of access they have to outside. Is it the perfect place for them... not really. Can it work? Sure. You would just need to exercise the heck out of them. Týr is outside when he wants to be but I still exercise him 3 hours ish a day. Biggest issue would be sound. Their bark is like the hounds that guard hell. Lol. It's loud and they bark at anything they see as a threat. That's almost anything. If we hear a dog bark on tv, we dive for the mute button. Very loud. Have a buddy who is dealing with his neighbors complaining about the noise. So yes the dog can be indoors with lots of work but you will need understanding neighbors

Tyr The Ovcharka thanks for the reply!

@@plainmilk3320 Ovcharka's love to be outside. If you had one in a small property he/she would get frustrated. It's not impossible but like Tyr's dad said, This breed does what they want to do and this could be a problem in a smaller property. If you live in a hotter country, then the ovcharka will want to always be outside and bark non stop to go outside, and to be honest this is to be expected looking at how thick their coats get.
