Ivan is a very nice specimen. He has a good back - I've seen some very saggy spines ... even dogs with rumps much higher than the withers,because their rear legs are too straight, which can mean floating patella as well as hip displasia which means having a crippled dog after six years or so.

Hi! I’m adopting a Caucasian shepherd next week, I’ve got experience with other guardian breeds but none that seem as complex as the Caucasian shepherd, is there anything I should be prepared for, the dogs an almost 3 year old male, so I’m expecting him to be distrusting to begin with, but any other advice would be helpful
@CaucasianShepherds3 жыл бұрын
Hello Shari! Thank you for your question. It is good if you had guard dogs before, it is not advisable to get an adult Caucasian Shepherd with no previous experience. So if you are getting an adult dog it is essential to ask for as many details as possible from the person or breeder who raised the dog. They will know exactly what to tell you. Ask about his aggression level and how he has been socialized, what was the space he was living in before and what kind of activities is he used to. Otherwise, if you cannot access these info, you need to be very patient and take your dog gradually. Be mindful of small animals in his presence and gain his trust gradually. If you think it is too much we really recommend hiring a dog trainer for a session or two to tell you a bit about what he sees at the dog. Hope you two get the best out of each other!

Hi! Great video and I just can't stop admiring how much work you did with Ivan. I have a 3 month old Caucasian and she is coming on well, I have a German Shepherd too, but I'm adopting a 14 month-old Caucasian next week, I'm mixed up with anxiety and fear. I have all other requirements in terms of space and socialising them might not be a big deal, but spending so much time is my headache cos of work but I'm really opened to this. Thanks again.

My problem now is that she hardly obeys my instructions and the last time I tried forcing it on her she became very afraid of me. Please how do I make her Start obeying every of my instructions because we can't be two captain in this team

Definitely protective, they were bred to protect livestock from wolves and bears. It will make an excellent guard dog. They could be cuddly too but protection is in their nature.

@CaucasianShepherds3 жыл бұрын
Hello Marko! Each dog is different, their size and weight vary from individual to individual. Also, if your dog is a mixbreed is hard to tell how to compare your dog with the average Caucasian Shepherd puppy. The weight it irrelevant especially at such a young age, if you feed them proper food they stop eating when they have enough. Regarding the domination, you need to take a specific example to see what you are referring to actually. If you repeat to your dog what is not allowed each time and you are consistent and ferm he will know his place. Best of luck!

We do not advise any kind of aggressive training, they have their instinct which they follow naturally on their territory. If the dog suffered from some maltreatment at some point it can develop a very shy behaviour. You should consult a professional dog trainer for advice.

"Toys...especially made from _______." What was that word? I couldn't understand what he said or it is a word not commonly used in North America.... Maybe it's an Eastern European word for hard rubber? 3:17 on to about 3:25 or so. CC reads "textile'. Now I already know that Russians have a different word for plastic wrap or even plastic tarp or plastic paint cover for flooring : polyethylene. Textile is a very very very very general word. Not to mention the fact that it usually refers to cloth of some type... Defined as a flexible fabric or material of interwoven or interlocked fibers, whether natural or synthetically produced, such as braided, woven, felted, twisted, crocheted, knitted, etc... Not normally something you tell somebody to make sure they get for their dog. Rarely does a dog ever hold on to a cloth or furry plush toy without ripping it to shreds.

Yes, we meant rope toys actually. :) Thanks for the observation. Our English has been improving throughout the years.

@@CaucasianShepherds as I look at what I wrote again, I realized now that I must have been really really sleepy. I remember, even as I was writing the description of what a textile is, I remember feeling like I was missing something. As I was writing it it just seemed like I ought to be able to figure out what toy you must be talking about. I am laughing at myself for not having figured it out even as I was typing out 'interwoven material' or 'interlocking fabric', but in my defense,I hated what the loose strings did to my vacuum cleaner. So , I have only ever had one and never again. For a cloth tug toy I usually just take an old towel and grab it at opposite corners tie a knot in the middle and then tie a knot on each end and that is our tug of war toy, It lasts a lot longer and they don't eat the strings. When we had a rope toy that they called a flossing toy I was alarmed and how weak the strings were When we had a rope toy that they called a flossing toy I was alarmed and how weak the strings were and how many of them my dogs ate. I worried over this strings that were in their poop, hoping that all of the strings came out. That is why I did not think of a rope toy. Now, I feel so silly!

@@CaucasianShepherds I think you are doing an excellent job in your English speaking. I did not find it hard at all to understand everything you said, except that I had to rewind and listen again to some words that were said too quickly or that were said in too low of voice to hear it well the first time. The key to being understood better by an English speaker who thinks that your accent is too thick in their opinion because their mind is too lazy, is to simply speak a little bit slower. Overall I think it was a wonderful interview and very informative. So many of the videos out there make the Caucasian Shepherd sound like it is entirely too much to handle that it would be an extreme liability to have one. I see now that it merely takes consistent leadership skills. I don't get along very well with stubborn dogs because I don't have that much patience. But if a dog is teachable and even wants to please me a little bit, I can certainly work with that. Here in Texas, we have many Spanish-speaking first or second generation people, and I took care of the elderly in a nursing home and then graduated on to becoming a phlebotomist and drawing blood samples for testing. Many of the elderly Spanish speakers claimed not to understand English. They also claim not to speak it, however, I got clever and began to speak in my perfect high school Spanish class accent, and speaking the few Spanish words I could remember. Hahaha ! and wouldn't you just know it, all of a sudden they were very willing to let me take their blood and speak to me very rapidly in Spanish, to which, I had to tell them "habla mas despacio porfavor, soy gringa", with a laugh. That is "speak slower please, I'm a gringa". But they would not even speak to me when I was speaking straight direct English without an accent but as soon as I put on a Spanish accent boy they were ready to talk to me and cooperate and have a tea party, or something. They were proud to know a white girl that could speak Spanish so well, and I had not even spoken very much I simply had the accent perfected. Apparently it endeared me too them, And they were happy to see me the next time and just stuck out their arm. Also I had learned to say in Spanish a couple of phrases that joked about me being a vampire and I wanted to suck their blood -for the doctor of course not for myself. When they began to ride off a lot of Spanish so fast I couldn't understand one word from the other, I told them in Es-Spanish "I know what I know, very well, but not much more". They just complimented me and encouraged me to keep on learning. What is your native tongue and would it be hard for me to understand and get the hang of? Does it have different letters than English does? Learning a new alphabet would definitely throw me off, but if it's only a few letters different from English that's not bad I know some German, some Italian, some French, some Portuguese where it overlaps or is similar enough with Spanish and Italian And I can usually pronounce any offshoots of those last three except for some subtle differences I probably wouldn't know about because some words can be spelled the same but would be pronounced differently because the phonics are different. Speaking of phonics and vowel sounds I tried to learn some Celtic, and about all I could do was begin to learn the alphabet a little bit and some of the pronunciations of consonant combinations and vowel combinations and when and where they sound differently when they're against varios other combos. It's very difficult I also tried Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic which are very different In a lot of ways with a few similarities. What is odd to me is that some of the words can be very very long but half of the letters are not even pronounced!
