Smitty purchased Kreuz Market in downtown Lockhart in 1948. Thirty years later, in 1978, he expanded the dining area by acquiring the neighboring 1906 dry goods store. Now his daughter Nina has taken the reigns and Smitty’s Market and its pit remain in the same location where barbecue has been sold in Lockhart since 1924, when the Kreuz family built the building.
