Any tips on getting impedences down on very oily scalps? There are times when I cannot get certain electrode's impedences down to save my life. Even swapping out electrodes. No electrode will go down at the particular site.

Here are a few tips to try out: - Use an alcohol wipe to initially get rid of the oil on the scalp, before doing the skin prep. You could even do the same following the skin prepping gel, and before applying the conductive paste. - After appling the electrode with conductive paste, some people also add a cotton swab on the top of the electrode. This cotton swab helps absorb some of the liquid-component of the conductive paste, which actually gets the paste to hold the electrode to the skin better. - This is a bit of a long-shot, but making the room a little cooler or having the user avoid sitting in direct sunlight will get then to sweet a bit less.

When i connect electrodes to the patient scalp the impedance showing very high ie, like 17k 18 k, what should i do ?

That's close. If you are getting a 17-18 kOhm reading, then you want to try pressing down on the electrodes (to see if that might luckily lower the impedance; it sometimes works to decrease the value by 2 or 3 kOhms). Otherwise, you need to remove the electrode and redo the skin prep procedure by applying a bit more force (and double-check you did not prep one site of the scalp but then place the electrode at an adjacent location - we all make these sorts of mistakes).

You put nuprep on your finger, no gloves and rubbed it on the pt's ear? Christ almighty, that would get your accreditation shut down anywhere. Holy crap, if we ever had a rpsgt or reegt use any of your tips, they would be fired and reported.

Why can't we apply nuprep on the skin of participants? Isn't that what it's for?

You raise an excellent point that following the health protocols mandated by your institution and governing body is important throughout this process. Some igroups require gloves, while others may only require hands to be cleaned prior to the process.

@@SamSoulCWalk Their comment was in reference to the user wearing gloves while applying the pastes to the patient. The Nuprep does indeed require to touch the participant's skin :)

I agree with you I immediately showed my coworker the prep on finger and no gloves and he just said NO and looked away. Imagine doing this method in the neuro icu on a patient fresh out of OR for a crani 😰😰
