Great video for law students like me who are interested in practicing in tax. It would be interesting to hear from people working with the IRS in the same way you interviewed Mr. Zuckerman. Would also be interested in hearing general advice for students interested in gaining tax experience -- maybe more entry level internship opportunities and volunteering advice before applying for the big leagues... :)

@@International59121 Thank you for these suggestions! It's great to know that there's interest in hearing about tax work at the IRS. As far as gaining tax experience, here a few things to think about, at least if you're at a U.S. law school. (1) Your school or town likely has Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), where volunteers help low-income taxpayers with their tax returns during tax season. See www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers. It's not law practice but it's tax-related volunteer work that can connect to topics in the individual income tax course. (2) Your school or town may have a low-income taxpayer clinic you could enroll in (if it's at your school) or possibly volunteer or work for. Many of these clinics receive IRS matching funds. There is a list of those here: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p4134.pdf. (3) There may be externships or volunteer opportunities at other tax-related organizations in your area, such as the state's department of revenue. The Career Services office at your school may have some ideas. (4) The ABA Tax Section runs a Law Student Tax Challenge every fall. It's a transactional drafting competition for 2-person teams and should cost the school nothing. See www.americanbar.org/groups/taxation/awards/law_student_tax_challenge/. (5) There are a few tax writing competitions you could potentially enter. One is the Tannenwald writing competition, for seminar-type papers and journal notes. See www.wcl.american.edu/impact/initiatives-programs/tannenwald/tannenwald-writing-competition/.
