It was a panel interview and although it felt awkward I said, "I like the job, I think my job skills are a good match for the position and I hope you feel the same. Can I have the job?" All three interviewers cracked up laughing. Later that week, I got the offer. Thanks for your suggestion. I start Monday.

I just found this video but wanted to say: I went through school, took many tests, had to go through 5 different interviews with 4 different supervisors at each interview to get a job at a Chevron refinery. The coveted job is high paying so I worked very hard to get to the interview. During the last of the 5 interview's they asked me if I had any questions for them, I said yes, can I please have the job? I am here to work hard so I can put my children through college and build a retirement for myself. (I mentioned a few other things and said: thank you for your consideration, shook each one of their hands and also thanked each one for their time.) I GOT THE JOB OUT OF OVER 3000 APPLICANTS. It works!!!! Just ask for the job. :)

If that comes true I’m definitely doing this. I want to share that I used the question “imagining me in this position what would you expect me to accomplish in the first six months in the job?” The panel LOVED the question and took about ten minutes to answer it. One of the panelists at the end said that he would welcome working with me. And then after my thank you note he said he welcomed my application. That’s never happened to me before.

Covid killed my last job so I was back out hunting. Applied for a job I thought I would never even get called for. During the first interview the manager asked why should you get this job before any of the other applicants. I said because I will show up every day and on time. Paperwork abounds in my field. One load of Kosher Food Grade Hazmat. Could have 2 inch's of paperwork with it. So many refuse to let me show them the equipment. Or paperwork They say. When do I drive and why do I need to know this. Or a better one night before I'll say truck checkin is at 3 am the load has a 7 am appointment 3 hours away. Most comments are missing the point, he said only ask for the job when you feel there a connection, a good vibe that the interviewer liked you.
@CassandraLMAO
@CassandraLMAO 5 ай бұрын
I think those missing the point, are those that cannot read people and are probably disgruntled by ‘going in for the kiss’ while their date wasn’t vibing. In the reverse, if you’re the hiring manager and someone who you didn’t build rapport or seemed to not be a good fit and they asked you for the job, that only further proves people who can’t read the room wouldn’t have been an easy personality to hire. I’ve never been turned down for a job I actually wanted and therefore asked for.

They likely picked you 'cause without qualifications or experience, the company knows you'll accept a lower pay rate than the industry standard & less likely you'll ask for a raise anytime soon (qualified candidates knows to ask after 6 months or can easily leave taking their qualifications to another company if not satisfied). I should know 'cause I've been in HR for 20 plus years & the more eager a candidate willing to learn on the job without formal educational background or experience, the better chance of getting the job offer since these (green) canadates are seen as more likely to accept a lower salary, be more loyal & (sorry to say) easier to manipulate. We pass up qualified candidates, not because we didn't see them as a good fit, but because they knew with their experience & qualifications, their self-worth & know how much they should be earning. Sorry, but in 99% of the time, it comes down to the bottom line & who is willing to work the hardest with the least amount of pay. Companies likes to have the upper hand & employees who see them as giving them a chance not the other way around, the employee bringing skills & value to the company. It also helps to be good-looking. Just remember, your job is not your friend nor your co-workers. You would be surprised how many employees throws other colleagues under the bus when it comes down to the job. Be professional, always know your self-worth, move up early into your employment (the longer you stay in a position, the more likely you will be passed up for promotions, don't be shy to ask for a raise especially after a performance review, if no review, ask for one after 6 months...if denied, start seeking employment elsewhere) & never put your complete trust in your employer....you are just a number with an expiry date just make sure you get noticed early on & ignore jealous colleagues that will try to find ways to block you from getting promoted. Never ever complain to your colleagues (they are not your friend & some will report you), manager or HR, you'll be seen as a disgruntled employee that will be likely blacklisted for promotions & most likely the first to be let go if need be. If you are not happy, seek employment elsewhere.....your job will not be tailored to you, but no company owns you even if they think they do. Many don't care about their employees & gets enjoyment making their employees' life as miserable as possible knowing they sign their paychecks. Many don't care about you, but how much money you are making for them. Good luck👍

Retired after a wonderful career in the chemical industry with various companies. During the final interview process my last interview was usually with the CEO or President. They would always ask this famous question,”where do you see yourself in five years with our company”. I would pause for one second, look them in the eye and say, “sitting at your desk” running this company, with all do respect sir. I know I have the drive and talent to be successful at this company! I would then stand up, shake his hand, thank him for his time and courtesy, and walk out the door. Never, ever failed me. PS. Always be super courteous to the receptionist on the way in and out of the office. It’s amazing how much influence these people have on the hiring process.

Thank you for what you do. I'm 66 and was laid off from my IT job after 21 years at the end of July. I watched hours of your videos (and those of others) and worked my butt off and started my new job in early September. So a one-month forced vacation. The new job is a lot harder, not as comfortable, but it is an opportunity and I'm taking it. Anyway, your videos are encouraging, helpful, insightful, and very much needed for those of us who need another shot at getting a job. A few days after the second interview for this job they made an offer. I had already scheduled a third interview later that day with a different company. This one seemed like a better fit even though the pay is a bit lower. I called the other people and scrubbed the third interview. No regrets. By the way, I plan to retire a month after I die if I can fit it into my schedule.

A month after you die? Not sure if that's a typo or a, funny statement. I worked in I.T. for 34 years. 22 at the place where i was laid off. Frankly they could've fired me way before that. I had Extreme burnout and was not the best employee even though I wish i was. I didn't give up but sometimes it seemed like quitting with notice would have been the more correct thing to do. But I had to keep doing my best and showing up for my kids That was 3 years ago and I have used my time since then for a lot of good things. Mostly supporting people by using my time to be helpful and care giving and also I put getting my rest and regrouping first. During my 34 years of employment I worked at least 40 hours a week and sonetimes 2 or 3 jobs and had no real vacation. Raised my children and maintained a home almost completely on my own. For me, in 2019, when I was laid off i decided to take my retirement out of the middle. When I go back to work, I'm working until I die unless I get too old to work. Taking my family history into consideration, my chances of getting old are slim. It was important to me to rest up to be the best I can be in my next employment. Also to know what its like to not have to punch a clock for more tha 2 days at a time before I die. I'm set. I've retired and returned from my rest. I am ready to go back to work. The world has changed so much since 2019, I'm wanting to make a more positive contribution to the world on part 2 of my life. I wonder if it will be possible to get another I.T.position and if I can do better than i did before. More importantly than money is being a valuable asset. I hope I get the chance.

But a week ago I started looking for jobs that have something close to my background in retail and merchandising . 17 years it’s a long time and scary to find something after getting fired. Yesterday I got a call for interview and I didn’t know how to prepare for it . Desperate I started looking for videos luckily i found yours . I got hired on the spot . Main question was tell me about yourself ? I nailed it!! Thank you so much for the advice again .

I did this once. They asked "Do you have any questions for us?" I responded "when do I start?" They went into the hallway, talked for a few seconds, came back in and said "Do you have time to start the paperwork today?" Then I was escorted to Admin where I was introduced and handed the new hire paperwork. Serious the best job I ever had!

This is spot on - I was a manager of consulting services at a boutique consulting firm and recommended that approach to my consultants - it worked for me and I think it made the difference for some of my applicants - key was hitting it off with the interviewer. For me one memorable situation was where I sat down with the hiring manager and at the beginning of the interview I noticed a picture of the manager with his motorcycle - I mentioned it and noted that I rode too and we had a long conversation about riding... We had a nice conversation and at the end I commented that I thought that I was well suited for the requirements of the position and that I would be excited to work with him - he responded with the question regarding my ability to do the job and I responded positively and asked him for the opportunity to prove myself - end of story I started the job a week later and was highly successful in the position.

Rain tree, I agree with Jacob. Even with teachers shortages, I got a lot of interviews, I watched other videos, and felt many of the interviews went well. But never got an offer. It was discouraging but now know that lots of somewhat random things can happen that results in no job offer and/or no follow up communication after an interview than one might think. Keep your head up, keep practicing, watching videos, researching relevant companies. Eventually I used these tips and my interviews improved resulting in several job offers out of 10-15 interviews. P

I love that someone such as yourself made a video for this. It's not complicated by any means, but I think people build it up more than it should be. Anyone can wow the interviewer during their time, but having that confidence is usually what edges out your interview over the others. I've been interviewing the last few weeks and I can wholeheartedly say this works people. Of course I did my homework prior and did what was needed to put forth an amazing interview, but in all of them I'd close with thanking them for their time, touching back on small buzz words to keep me in mind with my qualities and so on, and then I'd end it with "So, when can I start?" I might not have had immediate responses of you're hired, but no joke, 2 of the 3 times I got a call back with an offer on my drive home! Anyway, I wish all of you the best of luck landing that job you've always wanted :-)

In my life time I been on 100 interviews, I tried every possible technique, the quiet , the ask questions, the direct eye contact , the big white million dollar smile, the super suited man that they complimented me on being, at the end of the day it's all falls down to one thing, it's called having faith and destiny if the job is meant for you it will happen if it's not I don't care what u do what u say what u look like it won't happen. And to reply to what you are saying now I asked for the job at end of an excellent interview were my confidence level scared them and they did not call me or offer me the job. So these are all good tips but at the end of the day if that job is meant for you it will happen.

I worked with a woman who moved to New York City to be an artist. It was her dream and she has just enough money to land a job within a month. If she didn’t get a job she would have to move back to her hometown. It got down to the final day and no one had hired her. The people she was meeting were brash and to the point. She was desperate and had nothing to lose so she went into a bookstore and asked the owner if he was hiring. He was giving her a bit of a runaround so she yelled at him, “I need a f*cking job! Are you going to hire me or not?! He handed her a plié of books and yelled back, “Take those f*cking books back to that f*cking bookshelf shelf and stack them! You’re f*cking hired.”

4:50 I can’t believe that actually worked, I had a 90 minute interview the scheduled time was 60 minutes at the end I said after discussing about most of the job details at the end I said after a moment of thinking was “I made my decision, I want to work here when can I start.” They immediately we’re laughing, I was still confident and gave me a tour around the office. A week later I got the offer letter in writing. The interview was for a associate civil engineering position and during the interview it was derailed multiple times, why are talking about scuba diving instead of engineering so I had to steer the conversation back to Engineering side. I didn’t sleep before the interview, was completely sleep deprived and the interview was somewhat awkward at first then went better later on. It felt like a conversation than an interview. Pro tip: Be genuine and confident about saying those words. Thank you

Really smart! There's another benefit. When you ask the employer "Can I have the job?" the most likely response will be something like, well we have other interviews to do and we'll get back with you. Because of the direct interest they probably will get back to you one way or the other so you're not left wondering. When they do and the answer is "no" ask them to let you know how you could have better fit their job, so you can improve.

The interviewer Laughed lightly in surprise and said, " I can't give you an answer to that yet but we may have an answer for you by the end of the week." In fact they added if we can't hire you for this role I think we may be able to have you join another team 🤷🏿‍♂️. So yeah wish me luck, I'm expecting an update tomorrow. I hope I haven't messed up my chances by this question... I left it to last and mentioned that this is a bit of a cheeky question but I have to ask 😅. I think they liked that about me.
