Hi Dani, I've also noticed that there are many professors/researchers who haven't actually had publications listed on their profiles since 2014 or 2015. Is there any point to email these individuals?

Sometimes they just don’t update their profiles on the university website. Typically if they are listed on the website then they are an active researcher, but you can always look them up on Google Scholar if you like.

What's the best time to email PIs for a position in September (2021)? I know most people email for summer positions around December.

November is a great time to start since it is before the Holidays, while not being too early for PIs to start thinking about it.

How do you get research as a high school student in grade 11 or 12? Does it make a difference for med school application in the future? Did you personally do it?

You can get involved in research as a high school student in the same way that I mentioned in this video. The main difference is going to be that you'll probably be working on a volunteer basis (at least at first) since there aren't as many grants for high school students. You'll also need to make it clear that you are a high school student in your email, and be able to clearly describe why you're interested in research. I got involved in research after Grade 11, which led to many more research experiences. I recommend it if it is something you're potentially passionate about, plus it is an activity that many medical school admissions teams do appreciate. Hope this helps!

What would you say is the ideal GPA researchers look for when choosing students?
@DaniKilani4 жыл бұрын
Anthony Kanalingam Ideal would be 4.0 haha. But I think a lot of researchers would definitely be happy with students that have 3.7 or 80% + if you’re using the Canadian 4.0 system

Question! I emailed a prof last winter for a summer position he told me his lab had been filled but to write to him earlier in the year next time. I’m gearing up to do just that but now I’m wondering if I should reply to that same email so he kinda remembers that initial interaction or should I start a new email thread ?

Good Question! I don't think you can go wrong either way, but what I would do is reply to the initial thread and also briefly refresh their memory in the opening of the email. That way you are covering both bases
