Getting an aggressive conure to like fingers…. | hand taming biting birds

Mangooo has come a long way over the ten years he’s been with us, he finally somewhat accepts one or two scritches!!! Any of you also still trying to hand tame an aggressive parrot? If so 🤞🤞🫶🏼 😃

It took my hen cockatiel 2 years to trust me enough to put her head down for a scritch. She was aviary bred and very scared of me when we first met. Now she’s very tame. It can take a long time! And daily positive interactions before a bird will trust you.

Ten years! I'm not wholly surprised because conures can be stubborn as all everything, but thank you for persevering. So many people would be all "oh, bird doesn't love me; let's release it" or some other awful thing. Thank you 😘

My budgie Ray is two years old now, and he finally started accepting scritches. Only on the top of his head, not his cheeks or anywhere else. And only in the early morning during the first few minutes when we wake him up before he eats breakfast or starts his day.

You can try offering his favorite treats by hand. But if he’s ignoring the treat and biting your hand still, then put down the treat and just put your hand near. Then try slowly moving closer until he takes treats from you

How long does a conure molt? Do they bite alot during molting? My conure recently biting me alot

Couldn't tell you length exactly, but most birds will be grumpy when moulting because they're pinny which takes a lot of energy and is also uncomfortable for the bird. Depending how old your bub is as well, they might be going through a hormonal stage which for conures typically = more biting.
