My grandma got a conure from a friend that couldn't keep it maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I go up there to help her with her own stuff, so poor Charlie wasn't getting anything he needed at all. He's never been out of his cage, she didn't interact with him. I was finally able to convince her and my parents to let me bring him home. He's pretty aggressive but I'm guna go to the local pet store in a couple days and see if someone can come out to my house and assess our situation. I'm lost unfortunately. I know it's guna be a long road, I just Wana make sure I'm going in the right direction. I really appreciate these videos! Thank you so much!

@@sarahbasha8066 well i haven't really been able to find anyone that knows enough about him to actually come see him. An old coworker of mine who's mom had parrots came over and we did a few things to maybe get him out his cage but he wasn't down. I guess he's shy which I didn't realize since he's been up at my grandma's where she's really the only one ever there. Next time we're just guna do a video call and she's just guna walk me thru it. I've been to a couple pet stores. I live in a pretty small town so I've been to the one here which wasn't super helpful unfortunately then there's a store strictly for parrots about 40 min south of me and I did go there also. They said I'm doing everything I can and just to be patient. He's still pretty aggressive but that could just be cage aggression. Like I said he still won't come out of his cage. He does seem happy tho. He's not picking his feathers or having any other real adverse reactions. Thanks for asking!

Just keep your hand in the cage slowly start touching him one day he’ll just hop up on your finger inside the cage mine had the same exact situation he would get scared when I would pass the cage just by walking by it I just slowly let him get used to the environment started feeding him through the cage and gaining his trust I can now pick him up on my finger inside the cage and move him small distances don’t forget time is your friend in this situation

@@SomeOne-zw6kh just try to keep him out of his cage n keep tryna handle him in a gentle and confident manner. Display your hand slowly and most importantly with confidence if they see you being gentle and purposeful it will get them to lighten up over time these methods have worked worked with every conure I’ve had I’ve owned 3 and baby sat my girls blue crowned for a month he actually ended up imprinting on me and ended up disliking her even after her owning him for 2’years honestly think she was neglecting him hence why I asked to look after him for a few I wanted him to get a taste of the good life he’s since passed but today I actually picked up a green cheeked conure whom of which is 4 months old and he just can’t seem to leave me alone every time he seems tired or hungry I put him on his cage and he always flys immediately on me also if I leave the room he starts crying when usually he barley makes a peep other than happy birb noises I’m sorry for this being so long but I wanted to share my love for these birds along with some advice so I hoped this helped 🐦

We got our GCC as a weaned baby . The breeder had clipped her wings but we let them grow out and she is free to fly about the inside of our home. I’m home all the time and she participates in everything we do. I’ve commented before that she will nip at my hands and arms when I use any implement from a brushing my hair to mopping the floor. I can understand why she might hate scissors since her wings were clipped, but I’m baffled about everything else. I’ve been giving her time to explore the objects and that has helped a bit, but not always. I thought there might be something instinctive that she’s reacting to, but I haven’t heard any other GCC parents mention this type of issue. She can be involved in something across the room and fly over to try and stop me if I’m writing with a pencil, using a screwdriver, sweeping , etc.

My GCC screams at the broom, guitar, and pretty much anything large😂 as for pens and things that I use with my hands, he sees those as toys, and he also sees those as competition! My bird is less likely to scream at the broom if I put him on the table so he can run away if he chooses, or if he is sitting in someone's lap where he feels safe. I have had my bird for less than a year, so I'm still hoping that I can reduce his fear of the broom and guitar.

I've had my pineapple conure for 9 years since I was hand feeding him, but he has always been a cranky little stinker from the start. This video is going to help me SO MUCH though, because I never really quite knew how to discourage and prevent his aggressive behavior, and I really didn't know yelling just makes it worse. But after seeing this I will try to start feeding him better since he is mainly on a seed diet. I've always thought about getting him a friend because I feel like it would make him happier, but then I'd have double the mess and double the noise in my room.

I’m glad that this video has helped you! Yelling does make it worse and all seed diet doesn’t help. Variety of healthy foods is so important in their diet. Getting a friend isn’t always the solution especially if you’re not ready for it. I would encourage you to first watch more videos, do more research, learn body language and work on diet conversion as well! I also host a podcast that is helpful called The Parrot Podcast 😀

How can I get my boyfriend’s Amazon to stop attacking me? He always sneaks up behind me and does it when I am not looking. I have been bitten and blood drawn on the backs of my legs, a lot, and he even attacked my head and pierced the top of my ear. I have always been good to him, I have an Amazon as well, so What can I do to avoid these serious injuries? I want to be his friend. His son has also been attacked by him. Waffles is over 50 and we don’t know his history. My friend has had him 4 years and is just now gaining his trust.

Your bird is still young at 6 months I consider that a baby! You have lots of opportunity to train your bird at such a young age and develop lots of positive behaviours. Have you seen my video on ways to get your bird in the cage? > kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6LPqWeXepl-i80 I hope it helps! Mia loves being in my hand - as you can probably tell in lots of videos 😅 but the hand over back is one way you can certainly use to put them in their cage.

Do you have any suggestions for birds who have come to dislike hands from abuse from previous owner? One of my pineapple girls loves me and always wants to sit on me and do tricks for me to clap for her but as soon as my hand comes near her in any way shape or form (even is she’s happy on my shoulder and I touch my face for any reason) she attacks them with such anger as she was abused and actually has come a very long way with me but I just cannot shake the hand issue no matter what I’ve had her 2 years now. I also have a new baby Caique and she is so protective of him she won’t let me touch him if they are both sitting on me.

It's not uncommon for birds to fear or dislike hands if they have experienced abuse or neglect from a previous owner. If your bird is exhibiting such behaviour, it's important to be patient and work on rebuilding trust with your feathered friend. Start by sitting near their cage and talking calmly. Offer treats through the bars, then try putting your hand on the cage while offering treats. Gradually work up to offering treats from your hand, and use positive reinforcement to reward good behaviour. Remember to be patient and consistent, and respect your bird's boundaries 💕

What if the bird is aggressively stealing things from you and full on attacking (flying at you, biting to the point of drawing blood) where the only choice is to restrain until it calms down enough to avoid being seriously injured. I need a better solution because I know this action stresses him out but he calms if I stroke the top of his head and talk gently. I feel perhaps doing that was what made it worse, cuddling him after. My intent was to calm him down, I’m guessing he now feels if he bites hard enough I’ll do it again? 😓 Learning the hard way then, can I undo this? The behaviour keeps happening though. He has a playroom which is his territory but leaving it regardless of his mood is difficult- if Im holding something he wants he follows and won’t stop attacking till he either gets it (due usually to nipped fingers) or a towel is thrown on him. He’s faster than me. Is there anything better we can do? I suspect he has this behaviour from when he was still young fighting to survive. We are trying to teach him he is safe, that we don’t want his food and he won’t go hungry anymore. This bird was abandoned by its parents, attacked by its family so it cannot be socialised with other birds. I care about this animal, I don’t want to see him put down. He is territorial atm so he has been given space but if he sees any human with something he wants he becomes aggressive to have it. I will be trying a few things listed above first. I don’t want him to feel uncomfortable in his cage but I also need to protect my family as well. Any advice you can suggest what to do when he does attack I would appreciate.

A wonderful video, but does not solve my concern. Sunshine and I have had a marvelous relationship for 10 years. Lately, he has started biting me, and viciously, for no APPARENT reason. I do not show fear with him, always talk in soft tones, always ask before I give him a "tickle tickle" as sometimes he does not want that. I am taking him asap (damn New Years on a Monday) to a vet clinic an hour away that specializes in exotics (as opposed to cats and dogs only). I have been trying to restore the trust between us, but within ten minutes, he lashes out. My hands, ears, even lips and other areas are a sight. I fear he has a disease causing this behavior or he no longer trusts me. In either case, I will be losing him to a new family or something worse.

Hand gestures that are fast, forceful or aggressive in anyway can cause your bird to feel frightened and/or threatened. Aggressive hand gestures tend to be more tense than excited, pointing, fists, waving your arms etc. If they have ever experienced an aggressive hand gesture from you they may view it as a threat. Work on training and bonding with your birds 😊 I have a video on bonding tips too!

I am newly fostering a green-cheeked conure that was found outside. He loves being petted and loves being on my son's neck and snuggling with him. But when he comes on to me he bites. He has bit my ear, neck, and cheek. But he does let me pet him when he sits on our couch. I just firmly say "No", and push him away from where he is biting. He then bites my fingers. I am now afraid to have him on me. I don't want to feel this way because he loves the attention. Someone told me they think he is a female ( the vet wasn't sure), and the rescue association we got him from thought he was a boy. Anyway, someone told me female conures tend to bite human females more than male conures. Not sure if this is true. I have subscribed to your channel and have been following you since we got "Eddie" as this is a new adventure for us. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey! How wonderful of you to foster! I would like to mention that telling a bird “no” or punishment doesn’t work - in fact it can make things worse overtime. I would encourage you to also check out The Parrot Podcast, episode 10 talks about why punishment for birds doesn’t work and there are a few episodes where we also discuss biting with different guests as well who are experienced parronts or parrot trainers! Biting is a big issue for many bird owners and sometimes it’s best to consult with a professional to get to the root reason why it’s happening and since it’s a rescue there could be many! I suggest bestbehavedbirds.com 😊 you’ll be in good hands with Sophie & David❤️. It’s also a total myth that females bite more, in my opinion that’s incorrect. Biting can happen with any bird, male or female! Hope this helps!

@PoodlesandParrots Жыл бұрын
It will take a lot of consistent and patient training and socialization. If he is biting the kids I would avoid the trigger so the kids don’t get bit (don’t have the hyper kids around him /have him out interacting with them) and it would be good to do a consult with someone like Sophie & David from bestbehavedbirds.com because biting is really a complex topic and it’s important to understand your bird, why they are biting, etc.

thanks for the video. my 12 yr old male GCC that i have had for 1.5 years has suddenly become a demon. i am hoping it is just hormones and it will pass, but in the meantime i do not know what to do with him. i adopted him from a friend after he became neglected when she had twins. he used to be mostly free range in the house, and now sadly i have ro keep him caged most of the time. trying to figure out the trigger, but the attacks are very random. he loves cuddles and sitting on my shoulder, but now sometimes, without me doing anything, he will start biting my neck so hard he draws blood, over and over. other times he will suddenly fly from his perch to where i am sitting and bite my face. i have had to grab him and put him in his cage, and i know you said this is the worst thing to do, but he just keeps biting and won't stop so i have to separate myself from him somehow. what other option do i have besides putting him in his cage? i am covered in scabs. help!

Hi I have a sun conure he was 6 weeks old when I got him he has bonded with my son and I if someone else in my family try to get close to me he tries to attack that other person but if he can’t to attack that other person he he attacks me. What can I do about that. How can I redirect him to stop that behavior.
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 9 ай бұрын
It seems like your sun conure has developed a strong bond with you and your son, leading to territorial and protective behaviour. To address this, you can gradually introduce the bird to other family members in a controlled manner. Encourage positive interactions by having those individuals offer treats or engage in activities with the bird. Reinforce positive behaviour with rewards and discourage aggressive behaviour by withholding attention when it occurs. Consistent training, socialization, and patience will help redirect your sun conure's behaviour and encourage a more inclusive environment. If you continue to struggle with the biting you might want to consider a consult with a bird behaviourist to help!

I am confused. I always thought that parrots get hormonal in the spring. Is it both spring and fall?
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 2 жыл бұрын
Most parrots become hormonal during spring when the weather is warmer and daylight lasts longer. Although wild parrots only get hormonal in spring, our pet parrots can become hormonal all year round due to factors other than the weather. & as noted by BirdTricks; “SPRING BEHAVIORS ALSO HAPPEN IN THE FALL! While spring represents the season in which breeding impulses are the most demanding, the fall also brings about a comparatively milder resurgence of similar behaviors.”

I have that mango too and named it mango🤣. Do u know why they get puffy when they get mad ? I have a boy who sometimes when new people arrive he gets so aggressive he starts biting everyone like literally for no reason. But other than that he never bites so I don’t understand why that makes him mad and why he gets puffy instead of just biting
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots Жыл бұрын
When conures get mad or agitated, they may puff up their feathers as a sign of aggression or defence. Puffing up their feathers makes conures appear larger and more intimidating to potential threats or perceived enemies. This can help them deter predators or other things/birds/people they perceive as threatening. If your conure is very attached to you, it sounds like territorial behaviour; Territorial behaviour in conures can manifest in a variety of ways. For example, the bird may become defensive or aggressive when someone other than its favourite human enters its space or tries to interact with it. It may also become possessive of its favourite human and try to prevent other people from approaching or interacting with them.

If someone could give me some advice id be very grateful! I have searched the internet for answers and I am just at a loss for what to do.... I'm not sure if my bird is hitting puberty, if he's just simply hormonal right now or if he's gotten territorial. I JUST bought a second cockatiel, I'm pretty positive she's female, based on my males reaction to her, and by looking at other small details too, I have not even had her for a week yet. Ever since I got her my male has just been so mean to me. We had THE BEST bond. And now he's biting me so hard I'm bruising... I know him simply getting used to another bird may be also contributing to this factor, but he isn't even 1 yet... She's not even 3 months.... They're in separate cages but I cant even let him out when she's out anymore.. I just need advice, if this will simply pass too and he'll calm down a bit, or if this is his personality now.. Or if theres anything i need to be doing differently please let me know. If i need to put them in entirely different homes until she's older I can do that, if I need to stop interacting with my boy until he chills out a bit, idk I'm just so confused on what to do.. someone help me please :(
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 2 ай бұрын
It sounds like your male cockatiel is reacting to the new bird, possibly due to hormones or territorial behaviour. This should calm down over time as he adjusts. For now, keep them in separate cages and try slow introductions-start by keeping the cages in the same room but at a distance so they can see each other without direct interaction. Gradually move them closer as they get more comfortable over time (this can take weeks or months even depending on the birds). When both birds seem calm, try short, supervised out-of-cage time, you could try setting up their own play or meal areas but in separate areas just in the same room once they've shown they are calm around one another. Spend one-on-one time with your male to reinforce your bond and one-on-one time with your new bird to build the bond. With patience and moving at the bird's pace, it should improve, a week is not a lot of time and it might have been too fast to have them out together! You could also get a consultation with parrot trainers to help you out! I suggest: bestbehavedbirds

I know why my cockatiel is biting me. He will not ever go back in his cage on his own therefore I must grab him to put him back. I understand that is forbidden but most times it is necessary. Therefore he resents my hands. If he had his way he would be out all day long which would be okay except sometimes I have to go away or my elderly dogs need attention too. I believe right now he is hormonal and he just pounces on me and demands kisses then turns around and bites my hands at the first opportunity. I have to hide my hands. He’s 9 months old and he has changed drastically since I got him. He is an only bird and demands lots of attention. I am watching all the videos I can on training and working on it. I’m just very frustrated and needed to vent 😢

Thats not normal for a parrot to be upset about change. In the wild, they go through change a lot. That is why it is important to *not* have a routine. I really disagree. They have to learn to adapt to their surrounding. Its survival.

My turn: Aaron is a GCC. Also very aggressive to the point, where you can't interact with him. He was given to me by the original owner. I love Aaron. It could be possible that he doesn't love me back? Aaron has toys all throughout his cage. He was once kept in the dirt for a long time. Now I have Aaron, he is bathed in the house every night before bed time. I never let any of my Bird's sleep in their own mess from all day. Even if I leave Aaron, when I come back, I clean out his house at night. Aaron was very territorial from the time I got him. I did have to reprimand him, "I'm the Mommy, I take care of you, feed you, play with you. Now Aaron allows me to put my hand in his cage to clean it. That's taken care of. Aaron is a violent Parrot. The owners must have not cared much for this Parrot. I give treats, Apple, he loves Apple. Not much food does Aaron like. I tried lettuce, walked away from it. Broccoli pieces, no, Blueberries, no, a very different Parrot from what I watched. Aaron sleeps at 8PM thru 9AM. Not enough time to feel good? My words, a baby is not this problematic, unless it has a Medical condition we don't know of. Same with a GCC, could be tics or flees, but you can't touch their back. So you have to spend thousands to find out the cause? Not very helpful to say the least. What next?🦜

Parrots sitting on our heads isn't a good or bad thing (#mythalert). As a parrot owner, it is up to you what you feel is tolerable behaviour. Some owners love their parrots sitting on their heads and think it's affectionate, while others think it's a sign of dominance (not generally the case...). I really don't mind having my birds on my head as long as they don't poop 💩 in my hair 😆. Parrots will usually gravitate towards the highest place possible because it's stable and high up. Mia also frequently hangs out on my shoulder or naps in my hair 🥹💕
