Glad you're enjoying your introduction to one of the greatest, and definitely most improbable, hard rock bands of the 21st century - appreciate your thoughts and insights so far and looking forward to your reaction to HATE? which is a perfect example of the talent of these ladies - few Band-Maid fans (Maidiacs) would place the studio version of HATE? in their top 20 BM songs but the maids turn it into an absolute classic live... to answer your question, the band was founded by the Rythme guitarist/second vocalist Miku - in 2013 she was a struggling J-Pop idol working in a Maid Cafe in Tokyo (seriously, it's a thing...) when she came up with the concept of girls in Maid costumes playing hard rock - after convincing her talent agency to support her project she managed to convince 4 world-class musicians/singer to join her - and you can see how it worked out... they have so many other excellent songs to review, but for my part you might try the MV versions of DICE and Blooming... and at some point you have to check out their 2014 MV of "Thrill"- their break-out song that actually saved them from being disbanded by management as they were struggling to gain traction in their early years

I don't know that any two songs do such a good job showcasing what Miku brings to the band as a backup singer and rhythm guitarist.

As Miku said, when asked about finding Kanami as the first member of Band-Maid: "Kiseki-po!" ("Miracle-po!") You can hear "kiseki" in "Manners" if you know some Japanese words.

You are more right about the pandemic period than you know. When you get to About Us, and Memorable - songs about how they feel about their fans, and the care they show toward them. The relationship they have between them and their fans is one of the remarkable things about this band. And you end up rooting for them so hard.

What a great introduction you've had over the last 24 hours to THE best Hard Rock band in the universe (and in any parallel ones). Only another 130 or so more to listen to....plus the live versions, where they always shine even brighter...and the 14 song acoustic set...and the new album out in 4 weeks...and the many great fancams...and Ohrenje (on YT)'s great series of documentaries on all the band members, including the great video he released last week, going through their whole discography chronologically, which really shows their progression over the past 11 years.

There is an interesting story behind "Black Hole". According to Akane, Kanami asked her how fast she could drum. Akane said around 190 bpm. Then Kanami went off and wrote "Black Hole" that peaks at 220 bpm! So Akane goes and writes the drum patterns for the track. She wrote 7, for the band to choose which one. She labelled them: 1. Easy 2. Comfortable 3. Normal 4. Possible if I work hard 5. Tough 6. Painfull 7. Hell Akane said "Of course, the band chose Hell"!
@joeking67632 ай бұрын
KANAMI asked Herman Li (Dragon Force) what the fastest song he plays (225bpm) Kanami stated that 220 was her fastest (BLACK HOLE) but she would write a song for 225bpm. Herman Li video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYSVhmyPr8Z5gZo Still waiting for that song!

Miku is a genius in the way she weaves interesting subjects into her lyrics. Who else today has a song about astro physics- the were often to be found in the 60s. About the genre, which is Band-Maid. Songs include blues, classic rock, jazz and metal.

Yes, they call their fans "Masters and Princesses" and Miku sings that in Manners. They refer to their shows as "Servings" and we love to them. As others may already have said, Band-Maid is amazingly consistent in terms of every song being one you're likely to love. In fact, there's a saying we Madiacs have, "Your favorite Band-Maid song is the last one you listened to." You can literally go to their KZbin site, pick ANY video, and from what I've seen from your fun reactions so far, you'll end up loving what you pick. You'll also be surprised by the musical oddities you come across. And you'll also say, "That's both familiar... and new at the same time!" another phenomenon many note with the band. Very simply, they're amazing composers on top of being great players, and so they just crush it pretty much all the time. Impossible... and yet true!

You are kind of right - Manners is about their own development into a skilled music group, the struggles and their rewards - Black Hole I think is only about black hole, someone in the group is interested in physics or astronomy - they are a punk, prog, rock group sometimes with a hint of metal
@phaeron2 ай бұрын
Well, now I'm wondering which of the ladies has a soft spot for astro science and came up with the idea. 🤔 Miku is the obvious choice, or maybe Saiki? Or was it something completely different and maybe Misa had looked a little too deeply into her glass and brought the topic up. 🥴 :) _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, and Matchless Gum. Their latest live videos from Yokohama Arena are incredible. Don't You Tell Me and Hate are straight up bangers with guitar vs bass duels, and Endless Story is a tear jerker that even choked up the singer, Saiki, and the drummer, Akane, since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. Also, they just released a collaboration with The Warning called Show Them which is a must listen.

Band Maid is: MIKU (mee-koo) Rhythm guitar, backing vocals, writes the lyrics. The band’s founder. KANAMI (kah-nah-mee) Lead guitar. A classically trained musician, she writes and arranges all the music. “Mincho” MISA (mee-sah) Bass. The band’s secret weapon. “The barefoot assassin”. AKANE (ah-kah-neh) The Happiest drummer on Earth. “The Gorilla” is the other half of the best rhythm section on planet earth. SAIKI (sigh-kee) Lead vocals. She’s also the “Team Mom”.

Great reactions. I don't know whether this was already answered, but the lyrics in Manners are mostly made out of comments made by fans about their music and the band itself in "the invisible world' ... aka the Intertubes :)

During the lockdown period the Japanese Arts offered funding for Artists that could produce at least two performances (that's the JLOD2 I think). The Maids took the opportunity to post-produce and release this video from one of their online performances. I love this pairing of songs because it does show two sides of the Maids and their versatility. By the way I love the MV for Manners too, worth the watch on your own time.
@samikoivisto77052 ай бұрын
A requirement for the funding was that they produce a 5 minute video, Band-Maid songs are usually 3 - 4 minute long. To comply with the rules Band-Maid combined Manners & Black Hole into 1 video.
@himbo7542 ай бұрын
Band-Maid has changed its costumes regularly, as the old costumes wear out. Miku designs them, although I gather the latest version was designed by, or with influence from, Saiki -- who started her career as a model and is very much into fashion. Miku uses the customer engagement of the maid cafes as well as their uniforms. During concerts she gets the audience to chant the anime slogans that are also chanted in maid cafes over the food: "Moe Moe Kyun Kyun". She takes the whole maid cafe experience, and turns it into a hard rock concert -- a strange idea that works .. at least with her behind the driving wheel.

Band-Maid plays Metal when they want to, Metal is just a sub-genre of Rock. Their range is basically everything in the Rock Spectrum. Many people seem to associate Metal with the modern sense of it, Harsh vocals and such, I mean it in the more Traditional way, as in late 70's, 80s and early 90s before hardcore metal influences.
@G-man_8102 ай бұрын
Great reaction please keep going down this pigeon hole! Miku the rhythm and backing vocal is the founder of the band who worked in a Maid Cafe popular in Japan. She worked there as she was trying to get in Tokyo Music scene. She won a talented contest and was part of idol band that last only a year…but wanted to do cooler music as she says. So quit the idol group went to management with the idea of Band-Maid…where you see cute girls in maid outfits but they melt your face with their music…the “gap” as she calls it. The Japanese music scene is definitely saving the rock/metal scene…but you can’t put that genre on them as you see by doing do more reactions. Band-Maid is its own genre! 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO,

The more fitting title for Black Hole (and several other Band Maid songs) is “Drummer Abuse”.
@stevehall51282 ай бұрын
Yep, you got the meaning of the title right, but "Methods" doesn't have the same ring to it IMO 😄 This song, even more than some others like "Domination," is pretty much their manifesto as a band. You also got the "Welcome home, let us make your life better" aspect of the maid thing beyond just the unexpected contrast of attire vs. music, very perceptive!

Band Maid is playing heavily on the Japanese Maid Café in which all the staff is dressed up like maids. Since several of the band members used to work in these café during their school years to make extra income, they took the image and broke the stereotype (maid) and played rock. A little bit like Lovebites, also a all female heavy metal band (all dressed in flowing white dresses)... Here is more on Japanese Maid café's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maid_caf%C3%A9
@stevehall51282 ай бұрын
Small correction: only Miku worked in a Maid cafe. Kanami dressed as a Maid for a school event, and Akane worked at a restaurant or club.
