Niall Myant-Best is back to pick up on all the stories from the boats as Leg 3 of The Ocean Race 2022-23 continues! Team Holcim-PRB continue to lead, but skipper Kevin Escoffier is beginning to feel the pressure as other boats slowly catch up. Meanwhile, repairs continue to take place across the fleet, with Team Malizia making progress and GUYOT environnement - Team Europe looking ahead to sailing once again.

Amazing professional coverage and Niall is providing such interesting insights! It gives this race an amazing dimension…I hope it will be the gold standard for next races such as the Vendée, etc….

Yes, would be great is the VG would report in this format…which the absence of a media man and single handed sailing will make difficult. But at least, they know now how to present it 8. a modern way!

It is just amazing how we get this sort of video coverage from boats that are in some of the most isolated remote places on the planet. It almost causes an illusion that they are in a safe place, but the reality is very different, in that they are days from potential rescuers. Following ocean races used to be like waiting for dispatches from far off distant lands. Now we see their world almost instantly. Great work by all involved.

New fan here since the departure from Alicante this year. The production quality of the shows is great and the live tracker is too. Hopefully Holcim go on to win it all as they´ve been outstanding so far. Leg 2 was so good!

Great report, as I sail around the world at 7 knots it amazes me that those speeds can be achieved in the southern ocean. We just returned from the south coast of Tasmania, if we stayed we could have seen the race go by. Just awesome coverage.

I bet you wish you could slow down to the speed they were doing while repairing the leech line. If we get 9 knots we almost open the bar early to celebrate.

Another great update for each team. The durability of crew and boat being tested at higher speeds. Drone footage is unbelievable. Onboard reporter attempts at story telling reveal each crew separate goals, moods & challenges. Three boats reasonably close heading to the first benchmark. Holcim the leader diving south to stay in front. Guyot in Cape undergoing structural repairs, hoping to be in the water within a week. Shore crew will be pulling some long nights.

Hats off (with careful attention to the retainers) to the OBRs getting all this footage, editing, and relaying it back to Race Control! Does Race Control have a pool going on who loses the most drones and what is the over/under for total number of drones lost or damaged during Leg 3? 😀 Once again, Niall keeps it interesting day after day. Thanks again to all the OR team and sponsors for making this happen.

Awesome .... never a dull moment and can never relax it seems. Question - perhaps you have already, and I missed it but would love to have a video on the equipment (cameras, drones, devices) the onboard "reporters" use and how they upload the content. Is the energy required for the reporters accounted for in the teams' energy budget, or do they have their own systems? I doubt they are using Starlink satellites as I don't think they serve the southern oceans .... yet.

Congratulations with those 24h records. And compliments to your show. But keep in mind that the 24h records set in 2020 were achieved single-handed. 515nm (Thomas Ruyant btw) on an Imoca sailed solo is still incomparable to me.

Have the imoca been designed for the bigger load they have now, 5 crew, food and other items and equipment. Is that not a burden for the boats? And the drones, let the OBR e a story about his / her story, how the work with the drones, how to get them back and so. Hope that there be more boats in the next edition.

Niall is trying to get some excitement in the racing alluding Biotherrm would be leading in 24 hours. Truly, that will not happen unless we see a mayor breakdown on Holcim PRB. In fact the winds look very good for Holcim ahead. They will be at least 400 Nm ahead even in 24 hours I guess. Biotherm looks to be the most consistent in the second group, not just focusing on breaking records, but on the race itself. The 3 boats have positioned themselves a little different from each others, with Biotherm being in the middle. I guess they will continue to lead this group for a long time.
