I'm from the UK, discovered rudys on 8th 32 years ago and go back there to drink everytime I go to new York, last time was 6 years ago, the Irish guy behind the bar said it was the last dive bar in new York, a pint of beer and a tequila was $6 with free hotdogs last time I went, first time I went it was full of locals and like something off starsky and hutch, full of dudes, and lots of dive bars around there for a dollar a beer, sadly with the rise in rents most have dissapeared apart from rudys, glad you went there and great vids, keep up the good work

he's kinda right, nyc has changed a lot. gone are the authentic nyc places from the 70s and 80s all replaced to cater to the new transplant crowd. lived here all my life and don't bother ever going into manhattan. you can still find dive bars in parts of queens and brooklyn where the real new yorkers live.

@magamaga1827 I stayed at milford plaza, it was rough around the edges around hells kitchen, but I wouldn't say dangerous at all, more like gritty, the new york I really liked, saying that I was there in 87 and we got the train down from Southport conneticut instead of staying in new York itself, now that was a different story, no idea where we was going, first stop 125th St, I said to my pal, we're here, get off the train, we did and could see the streets around, south bronx or harlem, it was like a war zone from what we could see, I heard the loudspeaker say next stop grand central, got back on the train and made it into central manhatten, we took a tour which took us around and also around central park and through harlem, it was horrendous, in a block it changed coming back down to central manhatten, I tell people to this day about how bad it was, I mean the depravation, the times landlords were paying to have their apartment blocks raised to the ground, I still have photos, but if you never saw that you'll never understand exactly how bad it was, didn't drink then just sightseeing, the second time I was there was when we used to drink around 8th and 9th, a bit shady but not to bad, the full moon saloon springs to mind 😅 great little proper ny bar, similar to rudys, there was a white guy who used to sit at the bar with his black gf or wife, same place everytime we went, 7 years later and I was married, my wife and I went to Vegas and ny, stayed in milford plaza yet again and the full moon saloon was still open, that would be one year before 9/11, the white guy and the black woman were still in the same bar, same place, him sat down, her stood next to him, great times, great memories, things change
