Lovely tribute to your mum. My num died in Ayrshire hospice and we were all around her when she passed away. We looked at photographs with her and ones of me in Arran looking through my binoculars. She said to my wife that her loving memory of her boy was with his binoculars on his chest and his rucksack on his back. When her will was settled the first thing I bought myself was a new pair of binoculars and a new rucksack. I wear them on every walk and remember her on every hill.

Hello Murray, I'm sorry to hear of your mum's passing. My father took his own life 3 yrs ago this June, while I was doing the Cateran Yomp. The following year I scattered his ashes on top of the Spittal of Glenshee as I was going round the Yomp again. Its good your mum wrote that wee letter and said goodbye. Death is part of life, but it's not easy saying those goodbyes. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I’ve just sat for the last 2 hours going through all the amazing responses to this vlog (and I’ll admit it’s been very emotional). I usually try and respond to all comments but am struggling this week due to the massive response to this vid. When I was up on the mountain I wasn’t sure about whether I was going to add the letter to my vlog but I shot a few quick videos - just in case I wanted to add it, and to be honest , right up until the final edit I was still unsure as to whether to add his bit. I wasn’t sure if people really wanted to know about this and were more keen to see the magnificent Scottish scenery as opposed to me whittling on some more. However having seen the amazing response to this video I am so glad I left it in. It’s been emotional reading through these comments today (I’ve been bubbling away for most of the morning! ) but I am glad that I have been able to share this with you and that you have been able to confirm and share some of your similar losses through this. For myself the mountains have provided many things throughout my life and this was another occasion where they have given so much to me. Not a spiritual person, this adventure (especially the following morning) is probably the closest connection I have felt . A massive thankyou to all who have watched and commented on this video and to those who are going through or have gone through similar situations, my thoughts are with you… Take Care MurrayDay 2 and a massive heart appeared in the sky - never had this beofre or since ....Vlog - kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4WziamOpLNkq7c

You have talent for the Vlog, Murray. Again, the camera work and shots were exceptional. I miss my Dad each day - it's been two years since he passed. It's a strange thing, the closer we are to our nearest and dearest the harder it is in learning to live our lives without them. However, the upside in a close relationship is the good memories we should focus upon and when your up there in the mountains, in peace and solitude, the good times will roll in your mind and make you smile and cry in equal measure. My heart goes out to you Murray and we all find our path to coping in different ways - yours is to head to the mountain and let the cinema roll of a lifetimes memories play on! Best wishes, Ian

My Mam died very suddenly last year, in October me and my wife went to Barra and walked up Heaval. As I neared the summit I became emotional as I felt closer to her. Irrational I know as some of the roads we drove to get to Oban were probably higher. Wish I had a letter then to read from her but sadly she died very suddenly with no prior illness. All I have is lots of love and many good memories.

Murray what can I say? I have never cried about a video before. All you know about me most probably is my name. I never intended to be spiritual person as you said. My dad died of cancer when I was 12 and I found my Mum after she had taken her own life when I was 13, and I was left to sort things out for myself. I am now 70 years old and never really got over my loss. I went down the wrong road in my teens, drink! and made a mess of my life. Where could I go? what could I do? -nothing, until I was 19. I was told if I gave my life to Jesus Christ He would forgive me and turn my life around, so I did, and He did and I have never regretted it. To cut a long story short I married a Christian girl when I was 20 we had 4 children and now I have 11 grand children and one great grand son. Why am I telling you this in public, hopefully to help someone like you have done, Thank you for sharing and I really mean it. In this secular world we live in I believe in a creator and your words remind me of that, stunning, fantastic, glorious, amazing, I can't believe it etc. This is what my creator says For the Lord is the one who shaped the mountains, stirs up the winds, reveals His every thought. He turns the light of dawn into darkness and treads the mountains under His feet. The Lord almighty is His name. Warmest regards Ken.

What a beautiful and serene place and time to read the last words of your Mother to you Murray. What a lovely loving thing to do for her Son. Mountains are the only living things strong and silent enough to hold the emotions of such a poignant goodbye, I hope you felt held by the mighty shoulders of the mountain that night. Thank you to your wonderful Mother Murray for bringing such a lovely soul as yourself into this world and gracing us all with your dreams and adventures. With the deepest respect. Alaya Norfolk.

What a wonderful way to remember your mum. As well as this being one of the best videos I have ever seen of this fantastic area. I am Dutch and have been coming to Scotland for over 45 years and only stood on 183 Munros. Yet, as a ‘flatlandbagger’ I enjoyed your wonderful country many times. This video, especially with the shots from the tops and the music added to it, would have made your mum so proud of you. And I think you could not have got any closer to her, emotionally as well as literally.

God speaks to us in many ways and in many places. One of those places is the 'thin space' we suddenly find ourselves in when we 'Go up to the Mountain'. I have witnessed many people who say that they are not particularly 'spiritual' suddenly burst in to tears when they reach that special place amongst Gods Cathedrals. Man cannot emulate what has already been created before he ever existed. When you reach that 'thin space' which is unique to everyone you know you are in a special place as you struggle for words to describe the moment. Namaste from The Way!

My dear Murray, what a beautiful way to say farewell to your mother.....just perfect. One thing that I have learned over the years is, that those that have left, never really leave you. You hold them and they are a part of you, and there is great comfort to be had in knowing that. My Mum and Dad were great hill walkers and I can still see them yet with their back packs on complete with woolly bobble hats. I like to think of them wind in their hair and the freedom of our lovely hills and glens. Thank you for sharing such a moment with us.

That's beautiful Murray saving a beautiful and powerful letter when the moment reflects it. I lost my father some years ago but more recently, and I don't take anything away from you, I lost my dear twin brother Paul. Death has a habit of creating a spiritual sense. Randomly, this played from 4 years ago. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm on The Ethel Challenge and a year to the day my Mum passed I sat on Thorpe Cloud ticking off another peak (nowhere near the size of yours) and had that bit of self reflection, a few tears and put Mum to rest in my mind. I'm not one for marking anniversaries. That's just me, so I thought I'd mark just the first one as Mum didn't want us to grieve. After I got back to civilisation, I found out the Queen had passed away. The anniversary will forever be stuck in my brain now. Mum didn't want a grave, didn't want to be mourned, so we hiked somewhere special and scattered her ashes. So I know how you felt that night. Your Mum would be so proud of you. I've only been a Subscriber a few weeks, but I can see the person behind the camera.

I’m glad you kept it in Murray, was a beautiful tribute to your mother. I was nearly bubbling away just watching this knowing the emotion you must have been feeling as you made your ascent. Thank you for sharing such a personal moment, and as I didn’t know your mother, I can only assume she would be so proud of this tribute but most importantly raising yourself to be a genuine down to earth “good guy”. Us viewers forget the human side to the people who vlog. Over the vlogs we feel we have come to know you, and as much as we love your vlogs, we feel we have become “connected” with you, so when your hurting we feel your pain. Thanks Murray and thanks for being part of our online family. Truly beautiful tribute.

Very moving tribute, thanks for sharing, fantastic video. Those conditions and pictures in the Scottish mountains come along now and again but not often, and you cherish them more as you get older.

What a stunning fitting tribute to your mum! I can’t imagine how you must have felt on the summit but I got a bit emotional thinking about my own loved ones that past on. Amazing!

There is nothing like the 'great outdoors' to sooth the soul and connect with spirits or thoughts both past and present. We are then able to follow our individual path. Mother nature gives and she takes, and allows us to plug in and be healed. Again Murray awesome footage, thank you for sharing your private moments. Aj

Beautiful ,absolutely beautiful. A picture of your stove working with the view would have made an iconic picture for any mountain walker or rambler.Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey.Sorry about you mum ,but I understand the welling up of emotion over that memory. What a lovely way to remember her. 'or every step a hundred deep breaths you know how hard it is to climb a mountain but he chooses the mountains though hard as its sides are steep and sharp because it is only through mountains that he can rise from the plains the wise man once says he chooses the mountain because it is there. I know it's a couple of years since you made this film, but I 've just chanced upon it. The photography and commentary were absolutely breathtaking. What a wonderful and moving tribute to your Mum. If there is a Heaven, it must look like this. Well done, and thanks again.

Thank's for the video ! Sometimes the stars align for one and that certainly seemed to have been the case that day for you. I know Glencoe fairly well but have never seen it look so bright and peaceful and the views & pics were wonderful. Your Mum would have been proud of you

I offer my sincere condolences for your Mum. This beautiful video has some special meaning for me too; I have just lost my Mum, her funeral will be this Monday. When I was younger, she waited for me with my brother at "base camp" while I traversed the Aonach Eagach, climbed Bidean nam Bian and the Buchaille, aged 18. I really appreciate the quality of the videos you produce! Truly stunning!
