Manor Lords continues and our very first Winter arrives, which is always a challenge in a game like this. Do we have enough food to survive? Is there enough firewood to keep people warm? And what's happened to Betty's foot?!
As part of our plan to grow Cupboardia we build some more houses but worry not folks, we build them properly this time, with the little extension area as part of the housing plot! We choose to grow some vegetables to make sure we have some different food variety going on.
We also build a new field so we can do some field rotation stuff and have one field fallow whilst the other grows things, but this doesn't go entirely to plan...
Also we set up another trade route, we begin to make leather and we buy our very own horse! No idea what to do with it but we have a horse, yyaayy!
NOTE: This is an Early Access version of the game.

Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.
Manor Lords provides a gridless city-building experience with full freedom of placement and rotation. Building mechanics are inspired by the growth of real medieval towns and villages, where major trade routes and the landscape influenced how settlements shaped and developed.
Spreading outward from a central marketplace, build your residential, commercial, and industrial districts following the natural lay of the land. Establish farms based on soil fertility, position hunting grounds according to animal populations, and ensure access to adequate resource deposits and forests to provide the raw materials needed for growth.
Assign areas for housing and watch your residents build their homes in accordance with the historical burgage plot system. Each region will be subdivided based on your roads and the allotted space, and homes will scale accordingly.
From boots to barley and hides to honey, Manor Lords features a great variety of goods fitting of the era. Materials need to be transported and processed into finished products through production chains, and you must balance the basic needs of your people against the desire to produce luxury items to ensure happiness, manufacture trade goods for export, or forge arms and armor to aid in your conquests.
Resources are littered across the map, encouraging you to expand and establish multiple specialized settlements. Extract valuable ores from your mining colonies, while villages devoted to agriculture, herding, or hunting supply the grains and meats needed to feed your growing population.
Train a retinue of skilled warriors to fight battles alongside the levies you raise from the town militia. At times these soldiers will be needed to crush rebellions or suppress banditry, and at other times you will lead your men into battle to conquer or defend territory. When needed, mercenaries are a costly option to bolster your ranks.
A robust diplomacy system will allow you to communicate with other lords, using influence or threats to sway their actions. These competing lords have their own goals and will seek you out as well, and your response to their offers or insults can mean the difference between war and peace.

You can definitely send your militia to a region you haven't claimed, or even to one that's been claimed by Baron von Grumpypants.

Hi Penge, to stop the bandits from stealing from you, rally your militia in your territory and you can send them over to the bandit camps. The bandits will come out and fight your militia your militia of 20 are plenty to take them out without casualties, you could also wait for the AI to take them out but don't know how often that is. Love your videos!

You can only rally your troops inside claimed territory, but when the troops are rallied, they can move to unclaimed territories....I think 🙂

54:30 Actually a trade route is generally not required. When you pay to open a trade route, you're paying to have a travelling merchant visit your village. If you didn't open a trade route, you could still trade. In that case, your appointed family would have to walk out of the map, and that takes time. Unless you have... a horse! If you don't pay to open a trade route, your trading family will use the horse to travel out of the map to trade.

A big plot of land get vegetables and a small plot get chickens. You only get a few chickens big or small.Horses are used in the trading post (boost foreign trade speed). Mules are used in the barter post (allow to barter stuff between regions you have.Cheers.

You can definitely go bigger with the burbage plot when you make a home. You can also change the orientation of the plot. The work circle can also be changed for the logging camp. It’s also a good idea to take on the bandits and claim the camp for monies. Artisan jobs will become available after you upgrade the homes again. Have fun it’s a great city building game with a little fighting in it… and the community is always here to help you if you have any problems.

Leather is considered clothing, as is linen and yarn, presumibly this is a time period where wives and daughters made the families clothes so they just need the materials.

Setting up a trade route means that your paying for a trader to come to you. If you have a family in the trade house, you can trade without paying for the route,, just set what you want to teade, its just slow without a horse or donkey, but you have one.

Not sure if others have mentioned this but it’s well worth getting the bow maker as soon as possible. They’re easy to make, are great for trading, and really useful to make a group for your militia. Imho Also definitely set up the stone mine And I might be wrong but I don’t think you really need a horse yet. They don’t haul logs. But additional oxen are well worth the money

You do want to upgrade your hitching post so that u can get more oxen. You want more oxen because the more oxen you have the easier it will be to move things around your settlement. Also when you have more oxen and you get the upgrade that allows you to plow I will then be able to increase your production and productivity of your fields. So keep that in mind.

You can set each field to rotate between crop and fallow by ticking the “rotate” - also your militia can take out the bandits with 18. Also, it’s not adults and children in the population detail, it’s men and women. All the men are assigned to the militia. You gain $$ if you take out the bandits yourself - so you don’t get rewarded for letting him clear them out for you - also you need start regrowing the forest with a forester’s hut :)

A good youtuber to watch is PartyEelete. He doing a run with Manor Lords. Yes you can hit bandits in unclaimed territory but you have to really in your own territory first. It a good way to get influence as well.

You can definitely move your troups across any plot once they are rallied. Also, horses/donkeys/oxen have different functions. Horses and donkeys are used primarily for the traders. AND...last but not least - I always enjoy your gaming, the good, the bad, and the ugly! LOL Thank you for sharing your adventures! (Save your leather for shoemaking, which sells for a lot more then just the plain leather.) Am thinking you don't have enough farmers to plant the entire field in the alloted amount of time?

Also you can create multiple large burgages if you build a wider and deeper box it will automatically put them in you can also increase and decrease the amount of houses within them too.

free stone vs paying 11 gold per stone for the 40 or so pieces you will need for the construction you will be working on. I say free stone. also could be good to save up money for mercs yourself if the raiders are an attack force you may need more than 20 spearmen to fight them off.

Weren't you going to buy another Oxen to have a permanent logging ox? (I believe yes the horse is quicker for trade.) 25:46 I thought the militia deterred bandits. Maybe now it just lowers the raid amount until you can rally/enter a territory by influence/enter by king's decree? Again you can always trade for roof tiles if needed. 33:15 Betty, the bearded elastic-footed lady who-sometimes-is-a-ghost 🤣55:00 You do understand you need to establish a full trade to establish a "trade route?" Whether needed or not see other comments 55"45 Just mine stone; stop complaining about the "fantasy distance."
