@Tom some answers for your musings in the video - Golden Eggs are permanent upgrades for that character - The two rings have a *very special* weapon evolution attached to them, as do the weird red symbol things. If you get both evolves in 1 run something Fun happens - You can safely select an [Always] reward and be able to choose upgrades again if a slot opens or you pick something up - In fact, you can safely select [Always] Floor Chicken, because if you're at full HP it'll give you the money instead - That counterpart-weapon arcana, Gemini, means in effect you get 2 copies of every listed weapon without taking up an extra item slot (but also the dupe isn't evolved, sadly)

I don't know if it's that bad that the dupes don't evolve, there's some good arcanas that only work with the unevolved weapons, so you get the benefit of evolved weapons, while still getting use from them. Plus it means you can evolve the cats, but still have cats :)

I was showing this game to my housemate. She went to the Kitchen at five minutes, not impressed. She came back at 17 minutes during a gold rush on hyper mode and was like "wtf is the going on?!" 13 minutes later she bought the game on Steam and I didn't see her for two days

If you unlock more of the arcana cards, you can set up a gold build that will not only make you rich, but also pretty much invincible. You already have Sarabande of Healing, which doubles your healing and damages anything nearby when you heal. Pair it with Disco of Gold and you become unstoppable -- picking up any gold bag will trigger Gold Fever, and it also makes it so gold pickups heal you. Once you have both of these in place, you want to set your end-of-run chest rewards to always be the gold, because the two cards will combine to make it so the gold heals you for more than the chicken does, maximizing your profit and survivability with one choice. And obviously you can combine it with the Stone Mask to increase the value of the gold (and by extension healing) you pick up, and the Gatti Amari (which I don't know if you have unlocked yet) evolves off the Stone Mask into a weapon that synergizes wonderfully with this build.

The game offers some absolutely maddening insane combos now. Especially with those two rings and arrows you can pick up in the stages. Also you want Curse to be as high up as possible for more enemies on the screen!

There is an intended way to kill Red Death, and doing that is part of beating the game... yes, this game has an end credits sequence, and I want to see Tom reach that.

Oh boy... To unlock the next stage you'll need to have both rings, both weird red things, clock lancet, and laurel. All maxed out. Also eggs are permanent, they are also gold sink, and you don't have enough gold for that ;P

So, the rings go with Clock Lancet, and the red things go with Laurel to evolve them. But, you have to get the support items to max level to evolve them

One thing I'd recommend, not really a build, but try to unlock the Arcana 'Mad Groove'. It sucks all items on the stage to your position every 2 minutes, so you can grab all of the stage items easily. I find it pretty fun to choose on most runs, usually as my second arcana after I have 6 passives, as it doesn't really need a specific set of weapons to be useful like a lot of the other Arcana do. To unlock you need to survive 31 minutes in the forest which is pretty easy with Lancet and Laurel if you can get away with picking them both.

Mad Grove is great although can be dangerous at the start of a run if you get too close and spawn masks.

@@Murrytmds From what I've played the ghost boys only spawn if you actually pick up the items so it's completely safe, though there is not much of a point picking Mad Groove first anyway as you want to fill your passive slots before picking the items up. They only attack you before picking up the items if you go to the items' original locations without moving them.

Honestly I think a lot of Survivor Genre games bring different things to the table, only the games that are too derivative pale in comparison. That said Vampire Survivors is by no means bad, as you said it spawned a genre for a reason. Holocure, 20 minutes till dawn, Rogue Genesia, and Brotato I think are some of the few that stands on their own. Also, partially related but Nova Drift, not a clone and it came out well before but it's a great game that you played that's also like this genre that's gotten a lot of love over the years since you last played it.

TIL Tom doesn't understand good weapons. The guns are one of the best weapons when matched with Gemini, fully leveled and evolved. If you're going to use the pentagram, start by buying rerolls, skips and banishes from the power ups. Then get a hero with good killing power (like Pugnala, because the guns are...yep) and get pentagram and crown *first* and level it *quickly*. Then it'll be helpful all game.

I prefer to pickup penta mid game and try to power level it once i already have a few evolved weapons. Its a bit too risky IMO to pick up early because it might singlehandedly lose you the game by throwing off your XP curve and eating chests. Like if you are trying to hit level 200 as a challenge run or something sure that strat would be almost necessary, but man that early game would be pure pain.

@@emwZEEK Level 200 is pretty reasonable, as long as you grab crown and curse early on you get a crazy amount of levels. Levelling gets truly insane if you have Gains borough, who exponentially gets more XP as they level up

@@TheMirksta I dont know how much has changed since then but before the yellow sign and people were using toastie to kill red death you had to perfectly time eclipse/moon procs to be able to hit 200. Most of my runs end around 140. Dont think I have ever hit 200, maybe 175ish. I typically ignore curse as meta right and gold ring with all the extra curse just makes enemies so fast you need very "meta" or the best builds possible to survive.
