Getting good scans out of a budget scanner

Hi Dimitris, thanks again for the great content as ever :) I've been looking for m3 pro and max chips' performences for a while as a 3d professional. I wınder your thoughts about the new chips. You are the only true and trustable reference for me on apple's 3d work on the whole internet, I mean it! :))

Hey there! The m3 max looks like a very capable SoC. It's not close to any of Nvidia's offerings but we're slowly getting there! Personally I'm waiting for the M3 Ultra, mainly because I need to upgrade so I'm not going to wait for the M4. If you're in between the M3 Pro and Max aim for the Max. But of course that's up to you. You know your budget and they're both really nice options! Hope that helps!

I would reccomend a regular iPhone with a LiDAR scanner. It's not going to be 100% accurate but you'll be able to capture a room in a matter of seconds. And it's not going to be that far off. The seal and any other brand of scanner of that type can't scan rooms. They're made for small-ish objects.

@@marvelousdecay I see, thank you. It is a pity Android phones have discontinued lidar sensors few years ago, to use with photogrammetry, hopefully they'll start implementing the technology again. Even a 3rd party could offer the option, as an external module sensor for android smartphones

@@nkony Yeah that sucks for sure. See if you can borrow a friend's iPhone and try it out. You can use Polycam to do the LiDAR scanning. Since they're using Apple's SDK for that functionality the feature is completely free so you don't have to pay for a subscription or anything of that sort.

Hi Dimitris. I need scan small auto and mechanical parts. It´s better a Seal or Photogrammetry? I only need the right shapes and measures. I realy dont care about the texturas ate this moment.

I would say a scanner would be faster for your use case. But before investing in one, try the photogrammetry method first and see how that works out for you. It’s free since you can use any camera, including your phone, so try that first and if you find it too slow give the seal a try.

@@marvelousdecay I've already tried it with my phone and the models weren't very good. One of the pieces was very small, like 5cm by 1.5cm.
