These were some really unique ideas about capturing footage using your phone - I love the idea of just embracing the benefits of it instead of running away from the downsides! Great little insight into Rush, too - I had no idea it even had the ability to shoot video via the app, and those features are pretty sweet!

Realized I watched and hadn't commented...Rush is total fun. And filming with a phone presents so many more opportunities. It can slide into places even a GoPro can't which excites me. I love trying to find new angles. And like you mentioned, it just setting out on a table or whatever, can capture stuff that we could never inconspicuously do with our other rigs. Lol. SO MUCH FUN. And psyched that Adobe sponsored this! That's huge!

So true, man. Great work here. I love the versatility of a phone, and even the ability to back everything up so seamlessly. I'm not huge on the addition of gear to try to make a phone into something it's not. Playing to its strengths as a versatile moment capturer -- that's what makes phones amazing. And plus, generally the only people who care about 4k, depth of field, etc are the filmmakers. As long as it's not distractingly bad it can actually make stories more authentic and resonate more.

I'm having extreme difficulty transitioning to a lens camera from a phone. The phone is here, now, all the time, always ready...low key, and I'm used to it. Will definitely check out the app, looks interesting.

Definitely agree with the idea that image "quality" and expensive gear really doesn't matter to me when watching videos and quality content can be done with a phone. As I've been making more content for my new channel, I've actually been shelving more of my gear than I've been using it. You really start to realize how little the audience cares if you have a perfect gimbal shot or creamy bokeh. They just care that the content is useful. So why break your back with 100 lbs of gear? Focus that energy on your ideas instead.

Haha I was including every single person who has access to a phone today in “us” - nothing to do with age, only with those who can now make content using phones, and those who never had access to the tech! I can see where I miscommunicated with the word “generation” though. I didn’t mean millennials, or gen x, or any of that. Just pre carry a phone all the time and post.

Everyone should make videos on their phone. If you can make a movie on your phone, you can make a movie with anything. I made films with just my phone for a year before I graduated to a M4/3 camera. People complained about not being able to shoot in low light on M4/3 sensors and I felt like they were low-light monsters comparably. Still, I'm like, "Where are you guys making movies at? Unlit Basements? Turn on a lamp, go to a window, find a street light. You people don't know how good you have it with your 800 ISO." Lol
