If you ever find a broken or unused hoverboard; don't throw it away! These wheels are amazing, can be used as a motor or as a generator! The 36V battery pack is also something to rescue: 20 lithium-ion cells with BMS. This video shows how to open such hoverboard wheel (can be difficult if you don't know how), and what's inside.

That carrot is not just chillin' out, it guides me, tells me what to do, it is my master. Yea.. but seriously; we've been eating a lot of healthy carrots lately, and as such I though it deserved a bit of spotlight.

Hi Matthew, how kind of you :-) I don't have a Patreon account. But getting some financial support could really help. There are costs, and with support I could be more productive. Also, your comment got a lot of thumbs-up. I will look into it. Thanks for your suggestion!

Just watched your ceiling fan gen vid. Very well laid out and informative! I would anticipate you might try to create a gen with these hoverboard wheels. My biggest question if you do that is how are you going to wearher and speedproof (high winds) it. Have you had a close look at commercial small small wind generators for ideas yet?

Where did the smaller stator came from? I have an application for these, given there is nowadays opensource firmware for their boarda, but it seems to me the one you're taking appart is a bit too much, and that I'd be better served with the smaller one.

what does one need to do to make it spin faster? Im guessing the Hall Sensor regulated the voltage given to the coils to control the speed? So how does one change the Hall Sensor? Will the given windings need to be changed or can one get a bit more speed with those windings?

How would I go about putting this motor on other things? Would I need to use all the same internals as in the circuit board?

I bought a broken hoverboard for cheap and I'm trying to take it out to see if there is a problem inside the wheel. Any ideas how to get it out of the stator?
@Trebseig
@Trebseig 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Anj Fyi. There seem to be only 2 things that hold the stator in the rotor/wheel: magnetic force and the ball bearing. Hold the wheel down, have real good/smart grip on the axle (without damaging it), and next pull them apart straight. But take responsibility for your own action, because I'm not sure, as I have not taken one appart yet. Beware putting it back together, that your fingers don't get stuck. The magnetic force is powerful. Also; protect the fragile magnets. Good luck. Nice that you'll try to repair it, more people should do that!

@@Trebseig Thanks Giesbert, if I can't repair it I will try make it a DIY generator project. I'm glad less people repair it when it breaks so we get cheap bldc motors haha!

Ha! True: the one persons's broken hoverboard(and many other stuff), is the other's DIY perfect project part. These wheels are super as a motor or generator. I will always look for "broken" hoverboards in the trash.

@@Trebseig I just found one and swapped the motors to diagnose that that was the issue (as opposed a the esc). I was able to pop the motor off just fine. I didn't see any damage or anything stuck, but it is still not working. I will take it apart again tomorrow and check out the wiring with my multimeter and oscilloscope.

Hello Giesbert (guess we share a passion, mainly 'innovation and invention' as well as some morals) … so, i lend you my brain for a little while, and while i have no clue if this is useful for your situation, it was what sprouted up as i considered your situation after reading your website and goals... So, going off of your current seat, i was thinking about air inflated cubes, about 10 by 15 cm (all similar so they can more easily be mass produced), they could form a seat like you have now or a whole bed, each cube would then have valve and the cubes would be interconnected in a checker pattern (so 'white cubes to white' and 'black to black') ending in two main air tubes (will get back to those); Then you could control the pressure in these cubes 'individually' (well not each, but in the pattern) so that each cube belonging to the same pattern, has an equal pressure in them; which you could then 'alternate' slightly, to reduce the amount of time a part of the body is exposed to a certain 'pressure', while (due to the checker pattern) still having enough support to sit or lay-down comfortably (hopefully, like i have no clue but it sounds logical); So then to achieve this without having to need a full compressor, i thought of the following. Each 'end tube' would have an electronic controlled valve and both would end up in one to still fully engineer 'pressure chamber' (you could actually calculate the volume needed to alternate between certain pressures) which would basically function as a lung. It would start filled with air and push that air out into the 'under pressured set of cube-cushions', then said valve would close, the other set open up and remove air from that set of cube-cushions. (the other way around would make you wobble up and down ;D ) The in and exhale could probably be done electro-mechanically with a linear actuator. And because you only need to replace a limited amount of volume, mainly to slightly reduce focussed pressure, while still remaining a comfortable seating, the mechanism may well be able to stay relatively small. The main business sector that sprung to mind for something like this, would be the air-castle business. They already use high-grade materials that withstand a lot of abuse, are able to make all sorts of shapes and sizes; though i am not sure if the materials they use are actually fully air-tight. But they would certainly have the experience in the processes needed to make these cubes… Thing is though, i have no clue if this would even be remotely of use for people in your situation, as you so rightfully mentioned, engineering something for somebody that has a condition that is something that is hard to imagine or 'experience' yourself, if you yourself do not have the condition, that can be hard. But it was interesting to think about, and seeing i have no use for this idea, while it may well be something for you (perhaps even to build upon), it's yours now, well, guess it's open source and unless somebody has patented this before me hitting [post] it will be unpatentable for eternity. Do with it what you like ^^ hope it solves some of your discomforts as well as anyone else in this situation. And perhaps a version of it will make it on your chair !
@dutchcourage7312
@dutchcourage7312 5 жыл бұрын
Ohw, something else i thought of was that you likely need a 3D scan of your body (actually anyone in your condition wanting this super chair may want that), seeing you can not stand up, i think a 3D scanner in a flat position, with a glass or acrylic 'bed' to achieve full 3D, or harness of some kind (although a harness to stand up sounds more like a torture device). But anyways, with a 3D model of a body it would be a lot easier to model a comfortable fitting 'encasing' to sit in. And seeing you understand the power of 3D modelling, i bet you also understand how 3D printing (of some kind) can help a lot to make a more 'mass production viable chair' easily customisable to a particular person, by say printing the seat cover in some soft-foam substance which could be mounted onto something that is chair shaped and say has the above mentioned solution to reduce pressure wounds… ps. if the above cubes would have to form a chair shape, then other forms besides cubes would be needed (mainly for sides of the body support), a printed to the body type soft-layer could 'fill the gaps and increase comfort'... Guess that was it for now, i will let this simmer for a bit in my subconscious, and likely come back some other day to check out your videos and perhaps share anything that sprung my mind.
