What a wonderful motor for a turbine application! If you designed one for the purpose I doubt you could come up with something better. Will be awesome to see how much better your rose turbine can become with an optimised motor like this driven from a belt.

I don't think you fully understand how useful these really are. 3 of my kids have one each and they are constantly zinging around the house on them. It's kind of incredible really how fast they whip around, sometimes even squatting down, spinning around... and the things go for a very long time. But, I'm still waiting for them to break (if they ever do, they're very well built) to turn them into windmills.

I got one a while ago for free, just wanted the battery but knew I wanted the hub motors for a future project. Just need a bridge rectafier and I'm going to build the same. :) Thanks for another great video. Edit: u have 2 hub motors, one for a wind turbine and the second for a brushless generator upgrade for the pedal flywheel project.

Just a hint: E-bike rear wheel motors have threads for sprockets. They are very well suited for windmill power generation as they turn at a slow rpm anyways.

Soapbox moment appreciated Rob! This is exactly what's wrong with our whole economy. Billions invested in short-lived fads.. which generate loads of money for the investors (and "fuel the economy")... ie: rip off the consumers... and leave all of us paying for it until our grandchildren... do the same thing. Hopefully, this is one of the major benefits of this channel... to promote the importance and environmentally-important aspects of everything we do... to provide more awareness of the shallowness (and limitations) of our consumer society...and to suggest ways we can find a way forward. It may seem like "preaching to the converted" but... it has to be done so - go for it! ... if it makes 1 out of a 1000 think a bit harder - "Job done"! :-)

exactly which is why I went into motor disassembly - you are going to need to be able to do that in order to start bolting things to it - otherwise I suspect you would ruin the motor

I got four of those for $25 each. That’s eight 350W motors for $100 bucks. You can use them for mid-motor ebike conversions.

Strong magnets? Yeah, I'd say that's an accurate statement although a bit understated lol. I have about four of these wheels in various stages of parts salvaging and I think there's around 30 or so neodymium magnets in each one they're glued to the rim obviously because they're in north south facing it would just pile up in one knot if they weren't glued down, but I found an ice pick or something very similar in between them each one at a time peels them up, you just have to be sure to slip something like a knife underneath it just as soon as you get a crack or else it's going to flip and stick to the one next to it and then... well you'll find out soon enough because it's going to happen regardless. So if there's somebody that has never messed around with neodymium magnets this should be quite interesting for them,it's an eye opener that's for sure, they're a whole other level, honestly nothing else in mechanics makes me laugh as much as rare earth magnets because to me they're often like wayward little children always up to no good and wanting to do exactly what you don't want them to do right when you're not looking.

YOU CAN DRILL HOLES IN THE LIP AND USE SPOKES TO LACE IT TO A BICYCLE RIM, THEN YOU HAVE A BIKE HUB MOTOR AND PLENTY OF THINGS CAN BE DONE WITH THAT, 16" OR 20 " RIM WOULD BE BEST, SMALLER THE BETTER. GOOD LUCK, CHEERS.

Hi Rob I have made a hover board turbine but I’m having trouble controlling the power from it. I have had up to 30a from it which is great but my dump load is on and off to much. I’m not technically minded, so I wondered if you could point me in the right direction. I was told that these hb motors are 350w. Thanks

Hey Rob, I have two on those boards cost me 5 dollars Au for the both of them. Charging them up found out power supply is dodgy. Need to find a 48 V ???A power supply. Do you know the current as I throw the brink power supply out not looking a the Amps mate.

The cells in the battery are rated around 2.2A/h, so a 1A or 2A charger should be fine.

You've been ripped off The 36v battery pack was missing. I buy them all the time for £20 each. I bought 3 the other week for £60 they all had the battery pack.
