Agreed that speed duels into starter/structure decks are the best way to explain the game to a new player, definitely very friendly products to new players, speed duels you can use to introduce them to the core mechanics of the game at a very low power rating, then starter and structure decks you can start to explain archetypes, extra deck monsters, synergies, staple cards etc

Yu-Gi-Oh is the most complicated game to start to play or teach, it because you literally starts with "you can only normal summon 1 monster per turn" and "attack with x atk" but the people starts to see duels with ftk or indestructible boards
@eavyeavy28642 жыл бұрын
fault for exposing them. Think of teaching people chess, you don't throw them into GM after learning the basic but pips who keep repeating "yugioh is not beginner friendly" seem to never bother toning down their level to match the newbies. You hound them from beginning no shit they think it is difficult

Watching the anime somewhat helps gives you backstory to the game, downloading duel links and messing around on there see if you like the game foremost ( since the game is more or less similar between real life and mobile device) looking at guides on Yui-Gi-oh meta ( don't need a meta deck to have fun on duel links on casual basis, change the deck out, see what play style you like, play the A I and there's pvp for beginners- however stay away from Ranked you'll get destroyed if not knowing what you are doing). There are many ways to learn about yui-gi-oh from the anime to the actual game itself quite a bit of resources actually.

The advice of starting with older and simpler cards like the yugi decks is solid. I’ve been playing with my wife and we started with those decks. We’ve been having fun. It’s nice to go back to the older formats sometimes too. Duels don’t always have to be over in 2 turns.

Speed Duel is a great starting point, especially if there's an active SD community, since that means your "training wheels" won't become completely useless after getting into the main format. Sadly that is the case for like the anime decks new players gravitate towards.

I got my buddy into the game with 3 salad SDs. he picked it up pretty quickly with his only knowledge of yugioh not going past duelist kingdom. Too bad soulburner is so expensive because I think that's the perfect deck to teach someone how to play. salad is a mid range deck which is less complex than a combo deck but teaches them way more than a control deck would. it shows them Xyz summoning, link summoning, link climbing, link 1, handtraps, kaijus, floodgates. and the concept of the deck is fire which is easier to sell than "so there's this long running lore happening in each core set..."

How I got my friends into Yugioh years ago I gave them a pile of cards and said pick out your favourite and I’ll build you your own deck based around that card

I recently came back to yugioh and learning all this was like extremely complicated, because like 90% of the player base hates speed duel for some reason. One of the things that helped me out the most was playing a trap based deck (Eldlich in my case), because the gameplay is about make the game as slow as I can understand the mechanics of it, because the current decks in the format are mostly about how many disruptions can I have on board. Later I tried the branded deck and I loved it, but I felt like it was missing something, so I just piled it up with my Eldlich and started playing Branded Eldich and it was so satisfying, because I was literally playing trap deck control with Polymerization, and well playing my LGS every friday helps me understand more the game. Currently doing Labrynth, because I think it's a great deck that not many people know about.

I know it's probably against the spirit of the video but I think that simulators are genuinely a good way to learn as well. I agree if you want to play on cardboard from scratch and have someone to teach you, the Speed Duel set is probably great for someone starting out. What I would suggest is that when you are moving onto the regular game, build the starter / structure decks on a simulator and play them with a friend. This is good as the simulator will keep you right with regards to rulings and timings for things to activate. It's cheaper this way. Once you find something you really like and tweak online, then if you want to play it in cardboard, look up the stuff then. It was doing this that got me back into the game in 2015 when I played Madolche on the simulator so I bought the deck in real card and started attending locals to a decent amount of success as I'd played my deck to death online already.

So i really started to teach a friend of mine and we agreed on goat as a starting point, because its a relevant format and even as a beginner its more likely you meet others with a goat deck around. but in general I agree, keep it simple.

Somehow, looking back on previous formats, when I just started learning the game (and yes, I taught myself), I had some cards that were worth MONEY. One of my first packs in the link era, had a firewall dragon. Before it was banned. And I didn't even get seriously into competitive until Rokket Revolt...

If you guys having difficult time, effort, and money to try TCG Yugioh, you can do alternative with online simulator such as Master Duel, Duelingbook, EDOPro, ect For me this year with Master Duel. Not the best beginner friendly but with the ease of access MD offer, free to play(not really, already dabble in Shadowverse so I know what to expect), and nostalgia to boot, I keep going 'till this day. Starting with in my honest opinion not really the most straight forward deck to start with, Skystriker. It's not a bad deck, just the issue you need to have the knowledge of other deck to be good playing with it and I'm struggling really bad (reminder I'm a beginner). I almost call it quit because of how much match up I need to cram to my brain. By making decision to ease myself and looking options, I'm decide to make new deck with my remaining gem at the time to build Dragonmaids. While I'm not denying the art captivate me to play this, the game plan with bouncing cards and fusion to make big dragon certainly have more clearer plan to play, more easier to know the match-up (even though still to this day still learning lul), and enjoying more to this day. From there I start to looking TCG and OCG format to see what coming to MD. Also dabbling more of Yugioh content creator such as Rev here and many more. I really start to enjoy Yugioh more and appreciate it more. For anyone who start Yugioh with Master Duel I suggest to create a competitive deck to spare your time and frustration of learning. Have fun with all things with Yugioh XD

This is what Im doing with my gf right now, we first played with weevil vs rex speed duel, since it has very little specual summons and gets you going on the pace of attacking, card lingo, etc. Next We're trying GX box, it actually has fusions and archtypes so Im excited for that

As opposed to getting into the game with speed duels, I think that the best way to get into yugioh is with the games like master duel or duel links, as you technically don't have to spend a dime, and if you like it, then transition to normal tcg
@brucwayn64032 жыл бұрын
Honestly for new players buying 3 of the gx SD boxes would give you 8 decks to play ( maybe not at peak efficiency but playsble) and inyroduce you to the 2nd best era of yugioh ( ya i said it lol) as well as a fun way to just play and enjoy
