When you're staring down the barrel of a project in the TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars, you swallow hard and decide whether or not it's worth it to you. It was fun, but difficult to say the very least.

I bet you're glad you decided to fix the place up right about now! 😉😁 Kylie gave me a "Lora Croft" vibe when she kicked the door open in that black tank top and form-fitting pants! So, Lora...ehem...I mean Kylie said, "It's almost livable". That means you have started to see the liht at the end of the tunnel! Also. don't knock the candles!- they. can be a lifesaver when no other power is available! May I recommend that you beef up the door with a heavy gauge steel, or even better, steel and concrete reinforced door, followed by adding two (2) 90° turns into the shelter's main chamber? you'll lose some floor space, but gain Gamma ray attenuation (which is LITERALLY A LIFESAVER).? You can do this with CFU/cinder blocks, making a "Z-shaped" walkway into the shelter.
@HerbOMatic2 жыл бұрын
She said she wasn't going to do that! Then she did. It needs a better door anyway! Thanks HRDKNOX!
@hrdknox20002 жыл бұрын
@@HerbOMatic So, of I may, there are some great options out there. Both Alibaba and Atlas Survival have gas tight marine grade doors you could install on there. I'm thinking that if you create essentially a hallway from your main door to the opposing wall, the width of the doorway and stopping just short of said wall to give yourself a doorway/porthole into the shelter with slurry-filled cinder blocks, you will have achieved gamma attention! Your next major hurdle will be piping in filtered air and having an exhaust pipe with blast valves. Solar panels with a good battery bank will be essential. Hope this helps and finds you and the XYL well!

What I would do (I'm sure you already have a grand plan), but I would get electrical to that panel working and redo all the conduit and internal wiring. I would clean everything out and then figure out the plumbing situation. Get the floors done with the industrial flooring (like naturestone or something similar). I would run a conduit from your house to the bunker with an ethernet cord and install a router in the bunker. For the bathroom I would make it a full wet room. Figure out the exhaust and ventilation. and maybe do a kitchen of some sort. If you ever run a conduit for the ethernet cord, I would run a new conduit for electrical just to be on the safe side. And maybe try to partner with a generator company for a sponser of a video and get a generator for your house and the bunker. Also, eventually get cameras. You could have the DVR in the main house and have cameras all around your house. the conduit for the ethernet is how you could run the feed back
@CoolerQ2 жыл бұрын
Agreed on everything expect Ethernet - you don't want to be running Ethernet between buildings. Much better to run fiber because then you don't have to worry as much about lightning.
@djpmatchbox2 жыл бұрын
@@CoolerQ it all boils down to cost. Cat6 is adequate as long as the distance isn't too far and is cheaper than fiber by a long shot. No sense running fiber if you're not running gig speeds. Fiber would be overkill and wasting your money (I work in the telecommunications field)
@CoolerQ2 жыл бұрын
@@djpmatchbox The cost for fiber has plummeted. Depending on the exact distance it can actually be cheaper. E.g. it looks like 2x optics + 30m SM fiber are currently going for $28. Depending on where you shop a 30m copper cable could easily be that much.
@djpmatchbox2 жыл бұрын
@@CoolerQ a box of 1000ft of cat6 costs me $50-60. For something like this video I don't see them needing over 200ft pitting the cost at $12 and you don't need any special equipment like you would in a fiber application. Fiber may be cheap, but the equipment needed on each end is not.
@CoolerQ2 жыл бұрын
@@djpmatchbox 2x gigabit optics (the equipment needed on each end) run $14, included in my total cost of $28. If you don't already have a switch you'd need one on each end with an SFP port, but those are also a dime a dozen. Sure if you're willing to make your own cables you can save a few bucks with copper, but we're not talking hundreds or even $50. It's definitely worth it for lightning protection, after all, it's supposed to be a shelter.

looking at the room all lit up and stuff, you probably need to do some deep cleaning (and probably pull out all the non-concrete walls and stuff). Probably should also get its own power linked to a generator or solar along with the link to the house, at least if you want it to be an actual shelter. hell if you properly get it electrical without it being just extension cables, you could probably hook everything up to the power outlets that exist down there (after replacing them, cause with the state of the shelter pre-reno I wouldn't trust anything the original owners made).

You might consider welding in a hardened door (heavy steel) that opens outward, so people that manage to get past your security system (lightweight rolling top door, electric winch elevator, watch spider...) can't just kick it in and "ravage" that beauty with you. If you actually need the shelter, no one coming to visit will be your friend. You'll need to "nbc" seal the whole thing (shelter) as well.
