There may be a reason the pool is so far from the house, is there a underground bunker in between? One use of the pool being the way it is could be a gray water supply (toilet flushing,etc.) for a bunker. There’s more then what we’re seeing, no doubt. I’m pretty sure there are guns there, could take days to find the hidden stashes on that property.

Those are not lunch boxes. They are small tool boxes. The basement as a whole is NOT consistent with a "Doomsday Prepper". There would be reinforced areas, security doors, cooking, alternate power source, sleeping, sanitation, shower, and entertainment area, racks of food and water stores, etc. Look for a bunker.

Exactly! Nothing about the house or basement screams doomsday prepping. I saw no reserves of water- the most important thing for survival!. There were no MRE packs or other long-term shelf stable food besides one bookcase of random food items. There weren't tons of ammunition, propaganda posters, safety protocols........ The only thing the basements proved is that he enjoyed his workshop space. (Probably the only quiet area in the house when she played her organ. 😊

It looks like the house was ransacked a number of times and Bill appears to have been more of a hardware hoarder than a prepper. I didn't see much for preps and they didn't even have a wood stove. The lower basement would be a good bunker but it wasn't really set up for that, or maybe it was at one time and things changed. It would have been interesting to know the dates on the food cans. Those silver balls look like floats for things like sump pumps. If you don't know what something is, go to the Google app on your phone, tap the camera icon to the right of the search bar and take a photo of the item in question. In most cases, Google will find the same or similar item and tell you what it is.

@@doubletappinhillbilly 2015 is 1 year shy of a decade - houses require a lot of maintenance, for example no heat or AC moisture builds up which destroys paint, books, furniture and everything else. Now add in the fact that he was older means that his belongings start to become out of date like Grampa's house then along comes vandals and explorers, stuff gets stolen, destroyed, messed up and the place looks like this. I've seen this happen several times in person and was shocked how bad things look in only a few years when left unkempt.

observation note.the powder in the starbucks jars might be powder coffee with powder cream. might be reusing the jars to stock pile. lots of off grid and disaster preppers stock dehydrated versions of their favorite things.u can get french vanilla and other flavours from bulk barn

The silver balls, are a flotation cut off switch when the toilet cistern is refilling. Once the flush happens the ball drops, it is attached to a metal rod, as the cistern fills it floats back up to shut the incoming water off when cistern is full. In the UK you would also have one on your cold water tank in the attic also. Don't panic Mr Mannering!!

The tool boxes look like a inverter. He put in the metal box probably for the chance of an emp attack. That way he would not have to rewire part of house. It could be portable or movable in case you had to bug out. And the metal balls, is an interesting concept. It could be used as a detourant to outsiders if done correctly it could deliver an electric shock to who ever gets to close to it but this is just the ball only. Cool find.

@BigBankz I bought a 2001 Nissan Altima from him back in 2009. Really nice old handyman kind of guy. Sad he’s gone. I noticed the driveway and carport straight away, but the newspaper in the picture frame of the living room confirmed to me it was his place. I never went inside but a friend of mine was given a tour. He said the house was completely powered by solar panels on the roof, which would have explained why it was flat and doors leading to the roof. The windows inside were designed to give them plenty of light during the day. My friend was giving me a ride after dropping off my car to be repainted and got there before me, and that’s why he was given a tour. I remember the dog too. These large properties in the woods next to large power pole grid lines are the kind of things that get turned into small suburban neighborhoods. He had a business where he bought wrecked car titles at auction and fixed them up to sell. If you kept going up the driveway, beyond the pool tucked away there was another garage and large field where he rebuilt wrecked cars. He repainted my Altima again in 2013, and I remember telling him how much I loved the car. Unfortunately I hit a deer in 2017 and totaled it. Loved it so much I bought another Altima, same color, but 2013 from Carmax. If you are around men that fix things themselves, you will find that they always have a collection of parts, bolts, and screws. You’d be crazy not to have an emergency supply of food stored somewhere today. That “lunchbox” is just how older tool boxes used to look, my dad has one. That black stuff in the glass bottles in the pantry was probably homemade wine. Those Manischewitz wine bottles are everywhere in that house. It’s the type of sweet wine used in a Passover Seder dinner or taking communion. I don’t know where their grown kids would be but that house would be a lot to clean up. It's probably an on going long process. A lot of times today on social media you’ll see people comment on how good a person you may have known was after they passed. What you won’t hear sometimes is how much they loved God. I’m sad that he and his wife are gone but I’m happy to know that they loved God and were active in their faith.

2020 was in the middle of COVID and many families were devastated like mine. I had to clear out three homes and all the belongings. It is no small task especially if you don't live near by. Also, with court backed up, they could still be going through probate. Without a trust, this could take years to sort out.

Often time we don’t think about who is responsible for clearing these houses. The heirs, children are responsible. Would you want to be the one clearing this house? I wouldn’t know where to start. I watch alot of these abandoned house videos, and other abandoned places, it just boggles the mind that so much is left behind as if frozen in time and whats so sad is so much of what is left is so valuable. The antiques and clothing, furniture, electronics etc just going to waste, as the building decomposes and falls down around it or rotting away. whats more amazing is no one comes back to retrieve family heirlooms or personal belongings like the kids or relatives, or thieves stealing the riches and and ransacking or destroying these places. very confusing but intriguing. I would love to be able to do what you guys do and I am so glad you show us what you find and that your so careful and courteous to leave things alone and not steal anything or destroy it. Thank you for showing us these once wonderful places where life used to be good but for some reason their lives took an unfortunate turn and ended up like this. Its also very strange that alot of places look so messed up and things piled up in unorganized clutter. What a great find this is!! Numerous living spaces in such a big house with what must have been full of natural light. Always amazes me when you know there were children of these folks that there is still so much left behind - that they never bothered to clean out much. I'd love to have the Singer sewing machine. Love the rooms around the balcony. My kind of house - full of books. That basement area was something else, packed to the brim!! What a mixture of miscellaneous items.

They had 10s of thousands of dollars in fasteners alone! And all of those pigeonhole shelves that lined that basement?! Fuhgeddaboudit!! Interesting video on this house. The Border Collie in the picture very touching! These people would have keep the place clean and tidy so it might be a mess due to people squatting and using it. I wish we knew why the children did not get the house or maybe too far out to live for them? It would sell to someone that wanted to be left alone for sure.

Yes. I agree. I mean, they had the house since 1975. One passed in 2015 & the other 2020(ish). Chances are the house was paid off. If nothing else, I’d at least want to grab the pictures and any family heirlooms. It’s so sad that everything may just rot away 😢🥺

Lot of assumptions in that comments. It looks like Dad was a kook. If so, it would not be unusual for the kids to either rightfully want nothing to do with him or be cut out of the will. I don't know that. But you don't know that the kid's were ungrateful either.

He was a very religious man, most of those kind of parents don't have great relationships with their children, there's a good chance that a falling out happened at some point and they cut contact for whatever reason, it doesn't shock me at all that this happens, a lot of abuse goes on behind closed doors, religious zealots are a huge red flag 🤷🏼‍♀️ kids don't stop caring for no reason

Obviously, he did not have a will at the time of death. If the house is not paid for the kids would have to make payments and pay the property taxes. If those are not up to date, interest and penalty will be added daily. He could be delinquent in many areas, could be a lot of things, but it boils down to money. People love to flaunt what they have and be total deadbeats to everyone.

My uncle dave lived in the U.P. of michigan and he was a prepper. He said it was important that you keep your food hoard rotating. Dont just buy a ton of food and store it. It should be the same food that you eat every day but with a year supply to last at least long enough to be able to grow a proper garden and raise a good amount of chickens or pigs. He had chickens both for eggs and meat. My aunt did a lot of canning so there was always lots of pickled and canned deliciousness to eat. He also had a few hundreds of lbs of what looked like candy balls, 6 balls supplied all the carbohydrates and vitamins that an adult needs for one day. Those would last a hundred years if stored properly. His basement averaged abput 60°F year round. He also had a giant propane generator with enough propane stored to fully power the house for almost a year. And a ton of guns and ammo

Very nice home. Doubt the doomsday prepper thing though. There are none of the basic items you would expect to see. It looks like an old fashioned southern home set up by a 40-50's kid with money. Also looking at the office setup and basement I suspect that someone may have been some sort of engineer. The tool boxes look to be transformers of some type, they were a pretty common component for electrical stuff in the 70's. My take is family was rather religious, and probably high IQ southern family'. That being said most old southerners do tend to plan for bad times just as a matter of course so there may just be a hidden bunker. :P

I bet they got any money Bill made over the years though. This property would be extremely modest for Ivy Leaguers. Very interesting explore - quite! One big mistake this "dooms day" prepper made though is building a home - any home with a flat roof as those never last/hold up worth a darn. Steel roof sloped and that home would not have so much internal damage/decay going on. If they had kids as it appears so - will never understand why they did not do more to clean things out/secure this home & then sell it unless there was no will. That home w/30 acres is worth a few $$$......

Probably no will so it will sit in probate for god knows how long because courts are probably backed up still due to the whole lockdowns. My uncle's was because his children from a previous marriage wanted more than what was written in the will and they tied it up for years and squandered what they were going to get.

So much in there needs to be salvaged! All the china and crystal, some of the furniture that could be refinished and given a second life. I don't think this mans prepping was crazy at all. He sounds like a very wise, astute man looking to protect his family. He obviously wasn't planning on dying, but he was doing everything he could because he had accurate information about what was to come. We are now in some serious, almost apocalyptic days. Not you are totally wrong lol. Those are fence chargers I have a bunch of those I have made over the years. They are for livestock. The 2 wires in it are for the battery that say positive and negative. There is a transformer relay and a resistor in it. The fence plugs in behind the hinges. Lol the switch is to turn it on and the light is to let you know whenever the fence is activated and you don’t have a dead battery.

As a carpenter specializing in restorations, and as a hobby I restore cars and trucks, I have a vast amount of parts fasteners and what have you. Taking care of the stuff left behind is the hardest part for sure. In a case like this, they probably could have hired some people to go in and get it all ready to sell. And sell the house too. There is a lot of value in the house.

If this house has been empty since 2020, when the wife died, it could potentially still be in probate. Or, it could be that since it sits on a large plot of land with heavy woods, the family thinks it is largely safe. The house isn’t really worth saving, so the value is in the land. If the children were Ivy League graduates, the odds say they aren’t living in rural South Carolina. It took years for me to clean out the last old family home in my family when someone died. Everything had to be sorted through slowly, sold off or disposed of. Rural or isolated places are harder to deal with because auction places can’t make as much money when they have to transport goods, and do heavy disposal. I know people whose parents were very religious/preppers and the kids want nothing from their parents because they had such a disturbing childhood, full of that craziness. They were forced to prep, instead of having a Childhood. Or they just could still be dealing with the court systems. You never know.

Definitely a mid to late 1970s build. I saw a similar house on another urbex KZbin channel that used to be owned by a SWINGERS club, a similar layout to the main house with a sunken conversation pit and open fireplace, but identical 2nd floor railings and bedrooms setup. That one's flat roof was also caving in from bad drainage.
