If buying full arms it's worth spending the extra to go for a known brand like Febi, lemforder etc. Chinese no name ones have bushes made of cheese. I'd just buy the rear bushes myself and press them in - keep it OEM.
@danmoney9932
@danmoney9932 2 жыл бұрын
Agree but reckon those on there were possibly cheapo thin ones (the failed one anyway) so might of been tricky to put an OEM bushing in as they are thinner metal . The originals don't go that rusty and are a bit more substantial.

@lucythemoggy1970

the leaking carpet is either a blocked drain plug in the scuttle of a perished door seal. had a similar thing on my mk2 fabia, new door seals sorted it out

Or sunroof drains clogged. Cut ends of grommets and clean , reconnect pipes to grommet fixed my water leak in passenger footwell. Seal on pollen filter also worth considering

Actual door seals don't often fail on mk4s. It'll be the carrier panel (what the window regulator, speaker, wiring are all fastened to) seal most likely. New carrier panel inc. regulator and seal is £25 on eBay. No brainer.

Great video! The wiper linkage is a common failure, I try and keep it well lubricated at service intervals. MK4s are great cars , ok so they won't win any competitions for handling but as a cruiser they are just brilliant.

Had a pond in my Skoda octavia with a sunroof! Opened the doors, cut the flat end off both the sunroof drains and it was like niagra falls! Then blasted the scuttle area because it was full of sludge and leaves and then used a jug and tipped water down the drains and all good!! 👍

Regarding the driver's side leak, my neighbours recently had a similar problem with their 2005 Golf 4 estate and it turned out that the plastic cable passage plate on the base of the scuttle air box had distorted slightly causing its seal to fail. The water was actually going all over the critical electrics below the plate which was quite worrying! I fixed it with a generous helping of general purpose silicone sealant around the plate, particularly at the back which is bit awkard to get to. Other automotive sealants are available!

Wiper spindles are a common problem on the mk4 and mk5 golfs and caddy Van's and they can be dismantled there is a clip just below the splines and it pushes out, you should of just shot the linkage arm in a vice and work it back and forth, I've done quite a few shite design aluminium housing and a steel spindle Manufacturers don't think years ahead when they design parts and when and where to use certain materials.

The most common cause for a wet drivers footwell is the cover under the scuttle panel where the ECU wiring loom goes through to the inside of the car. The plastic cover will need removing and sealant being applied to the surface then replace the cover and do not over tighten the screws as the cover distorts and will leak. 👍
