Mine failed day b4 yesterday at kwikfit. I drove the car on the motorway yesterday crazy and took the car to a local garage and emission was 0.71. They asked me to take it back to kwikfit and car passed this morning after half hour mad drive several proper rev by the kwikfit guy. It was 0.99. I put half a litre diesel system cleaner yesterday. Kwikfit guy advised me to do that every 6 months and also lot of people I spoke to advised me not to buy fuel at supermarkets. I always bought at Tescos or shell but past 4 weeks morrison and sainsburys. I had so much stress past 2 days. Thanks for the video man.

Happy for you mate, it's a ballache. Same with you on the supermarket fuel it's a scam, I swear you get less miles to a tank on that gutter wash, so it's not actually cheaper and it messes your car up.

1997 Jeep XJ Cherokee. MOT failed - among other things, THREE TIMES over the limit on emissions! Bloke in the garage said it could cost up to a grand to fix this PLUS all the other issues - which included some welding on the sill. I was sad and thought this was the end....then I found your video! Inspiration! So I set to work. Second hand headlamp off Facebook Market place - some brake cleaner - and some cheap engine oil. Got it hot and changed the oil. Put in a bottle of Wynnes - £30 of super expensive diesel and asked the garage (different one from before) to change the oil and filter and MOT it when it was hot. Result!! It only failed on the hole in the sill - and wait for it - I hadn't adjusted the replacement headlamp! Well done mate -I owe you a beer!!

Great video. My old 2007 VW Golf tdi ( 140K miles ) just failed the emissions test. It was serviced 3,000 miles ago, does 53 mpg doesn't smoke or burn oil so should have flown through. @@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 Many thanks. SO if I'm after an old style trooper, I'd want a 3ltr pre 1999. @turboconqueringmegaeagle9006
@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 5 жыл бұрын
@@BensWorkshop Benedict White no, the 3.1! The smaller 3.0 was common rail and had the usual injector blow by issues of the era. If you've got a clean unswept area of the cylinder you can just use the Piston ring, like doing a ring gap check. It is a very good test for ovality (which in some engines is far more important) as well if you put a light behind it once you have used the Piston to get it squared. Unless I am doing work that specifically requires I record the bore dimensions, I just use an old ring as it is very quick. I use an upside down Piston, behind the ring, feeler gauge in the gap in the middle/ most worn portion then work it up and down, if it binds up really badly I investigate further! I'm fortunate in being able to get a fist in the cylinders I work on though.

Turbo Conquering Mega Eagle it's a 2000 plate T4 transporter diesel so I think it's more a cold start lever that adjusts the injection timing rather than a 'choke' I suppose, but yeah I'd like to keep it running as long as I can now just to spite them! Maybe vegetable oil conversion could be the future..great sense of accomplishment doing a home fix on the cheap and also handy skills for breaking down in foreign countries or the middle of nowhere. I think this nonsense will also hit some independent garages too as doubt they will be able to afford software licenses for all brands of vehicle in the not so distant future. My friend used to have an Isuzu Trooper and I offered to change her oil for her and could not believe how well those trucks were put together. Even the engine shield was super rugged and easy to take off and on. I really didn’t even have to Jack the car up, just drove it onto some thick beams for clearance. My father used to use a compressor with a wide rubber cone and a hole through the middle to pressurize the engine after the oil had drained and you’d see another half pint out oil come out the bottom. I don’t think they make or sell Isuzu here anymore. It’s a shame.

6:30 Seafoam killed our old van engine! got rid of all the grot that was holding the thing together and keeping the valves sealed! the Scrappage Scheme was probably the worst environmental disaster in the UK for a long time because of the number of new cars manufactured to fill the gap left behind by the old reliable motors, gotten rid of by people who didn't know what they had. also, old tip from my dad. save some money on disposal and paint that black oil on any external wood that needs treating. looks like bitumen paint, it'll come off on anything that touches it though, so only good for walls and other stuff out of the way.

Unfortunate about your van, my condolences. Scrappage scheme might have kept Nissan and Peugeot here for a few more years but they are packing up now and it was a huge hit to the independent garages that live off servicing old bangers. Like you say, people didn't know what they had, it's obvious now that car manufacturing peeked in the 90's even some Vauxhalls were ok back then. 90's Nissan Micra as a design and manufacture study is in my opinion the closest mankind has ever come to making the perfect car, no excess yet no weakness, affordable despite being assembled in the UK, complexity only where absolutely required but without compromising reliability due to the finest of tolerances. It makes me sad knowing that we are still moving away from that and rewarding sloppy throw away design with purchases of impractical body shapes and powerplants that need £400 servicing and major repairs before 100k.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 those Micras are bomb proof! friend of mine bought one from an old granny, 70k miles, never been serviced, it was immaculate, he went to change the oil and the stuff he took out was still transparent! no bad rust either, and in Cornwall that is unheard of. i think Land Rovers are the ultimate though, as long as you get a diesel one, just like old tools, they'll last 'til the heat death of the universe if you look after them, but they don't put up with being abused, that's what a lot of people don't seem to realise nowadays.

@@gramursowanfaborden5820 I get Misty eyed over a nice Landover just like most blokes but they stopped being good 4x4s in the 80's Too many weaknesses, and seeing as the gearbox is one of them and it's also the most unpleasant gearbox I've ever had to replace, unless I could find a 2.25d series 3 that was cheap enough that I could go and buy a galv chasis and firewall I'd never go near one. Have you seen how badly the thinner gauge alluminium rots on the deffenders? The 200&300 tdi's are as thirsty as the v8 and all the later diesels had bad faults, td5 blew it's head and then instantly cracked between pots, tdci from Ford had the pump and injectors eat each other at 40k, and I stopped paying attention after that! My cousin was a Geoffrey in the RAF, spent half his life doing gearboxes on deffenders, the military one's even had bolt on cross members to make life easier so when I couldn't get the cross member back on the crash truck at work, I spoke to him and he said "never take the crossmember off, we do the gearbox through the cabin as the second you unbolt the crossmember the chassis bananas and you need jacks to get it back together" but it was too late...

There is always so much space inside the engine bay, all the Volvo's, Mercedes and 4x4's I've owned have been 4cyl version of what you lot have with a v6. Kinda handy for working on them.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 awesome work man. I think your showing a demographic of people that arent really seen alot any more and that's the more traditional english countrymen. I live out in the desert of new Mexico here in the US and is a dang shame hearing about how all the countries are failing and that people like you and me who build thing and work for ourselves and use our minds and our hands, were being completely forgotten in just about every aspect of life and so many politicians make rules that they dont think who they affect such as banning alot of guns and like your emission checks on your truck.
