A big day is approaching - Leni is getting ready for her First Communion - such a lovely event in our little village. We will show you some details about the upcoming event and I will answer some questions about our mini goat family in Praiano. Ah, and we have bad weather and rough seas - as soon as we opened with the boats we had to close and bring them in a safe port again. Crazy April weather! :-)

Dear Elisabeth, Thank you for sharing the preparations for Leni's First Holy Communion. I am impressed a 4 or almost 4 year preparation; here in my parish of St. Joan of Arc, it is 2 years. I like that all the children wear the same cowl in Church, but that afterwards at the party Leni has chosen to wear a dirndl honoring her Austrian heritage. When I made my First Holy Communion, I was 7 years old, and had formal photographs taken at a photographer studio; it was 1954. When I recently showed them to the children in my parish, they said: " Oh Miss Judy that must have been a long time ago.". I replied: Yes, indeed it was. I love seeing the baby goats; they are so sweet. I enjoy seeing how goats walk and hop. Here's to better weather, so Blue Star has a good season; as well as that tourists are not disappointed. I'm so glad you & Peppe are bringing the girls up in the Catholic faith as it's becoming rare in previously Catholic European countries. I converted & was confirmed 2 yrs ago at the ripe old age of 57 & only regret that I wasn't born into a Catholic family. Leni looked lovely & it will be a beautiful memory for her. I’m getting tears in my eyes while I’m watching this because it makes me recall when I had my first communion! I’m so glad that you and your family are Catholic and are practicing the Catholic faith! Agreed so much! It is weird watching all my Italian youtubers and no one ever mentions religion, baptisms, communions or going to church. It's sad. It was or maybe still is a huge part of Italian culture and the biggest celebrations even here in the USA when you had Italian born parents. It was a huge celebration for us. My mom and dad went all out, the most beautiful gown and crown for me (hand made with huge circle) party, professional photos my mom cooking. All the family. For all the celebrations too Confirmation included. I've been to GIoia Del Colle to visit as a matter of fact the woman who made my communion dress in 1975 -her family -- Nonna Falchi....I called her...who were family but not by blood to mine and my parents best friends. I stayed at the home in Gioia it was amazing. My father was from Monte San Giacomo prov. Salerno across the boot. We went there in 1985 when I graduated HS!! BTW I will never forget my white platform shoes from my Nonna in ITaly for my Communion (we never ever would have worn sneakers, no offense but I would love to see that trend erased for Church!)

I have a lump in my throat, as I am full of emotions, watching Leni prepare for her First Communion. What a special day it will be for her to receive this blessed sacrament!I will never forget my First Communion Day. My whole family was there, and I loved my dress and especially my veil. My daughter, actually wore my veil for her First Communion…which of course, brought tears to my eyes that day. Also, she made her First Communion in the very same church, as I did… I am absolutely loving seeing the inside of Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta again, especially since, as you know, we had our Catholic church wedding there , last .September. The goats are so happy and healthy, thank you for answering questions about your goat family. When I was young we had goats on farm, the baby goats were called kids, the moms were called nanny goats and the dads were called Billy goats. Leni, best wishes on your upcoming communion. I like the idea of the children wearing the same outfit for their First Holy Communion. Leni looked adorable. When I made mine I was only 7 we were dressed like little mini brides and the same again when I made my Confirmation at age 9/10.
