Getting ready for SPAIN | Speed puzzling puzzles from WJPC 2022!! 😲

The time has come! I have FINALLY tackled puzzles from LAST YEAR'S competition, and it didn't go quite as planned. Now I'm not that sure that I actually am ready to go up against the best 😬
I still have a lot of practicing to do if I want to get any better, so I decided to do something ridiculous - to find out what that is, make sure to watch the entire video 😉

Your times are still amazing! Watching you go as fast as you could, and then seeing your time, it really puts me in awe at how fast those other puzzlers really are!

Thank you! And yes, I know!! When I puzzle and I'm at a half hour point and see that I still have half of the puzzle left to do, it just makes me wonder how they do it 😅 I just don't understand how it's possible to be that fast honestly 😲

There is a Value vs non value video on Lean made simple channel. I just think about how it is related to speed puzzling. What is the real value? Normally there are some standard process steps, unboxing, flipping, sorting groups based on edge/non edges or pattern or color. Then assembling small groups, or makeing first the edge. A lots of trial, rotating.... In the ideal world, every piece is flipped, and we know the exact location (no need to lookfor on the image), and can move there. This is the value. What are wastes here? finding, trial, put back, trial again, move small assembled parts, moving flipped and grouped pieces because we have too much inventory and we dont have enough space on table....😀

Haha yeah, I like the ideal world you described!! 😅 The only way to get quicker is to eliminate wastes as much as we can - so a table big enough is a good start! 🤩👌🏻

You did fantastic!!!! Those are great times! And remember placements are seconds apart so if one person fumbles a bit, that gives you an edge. I did the London Postcards as a speed puzzle. I DO NOT speed thru my puzzles but I knew I wanted to with this one. It took me 2 hours to do. I wouldn't even place. LOL That's ok. I am slow and I'm ok with that!!! I cannot wait to watch you guys in Spain. You just need to place.

Thank you! 😊 And yes, I've noticed that a couple of minutes can make a big difference in the placement 😲 With me it's a bit easier, because it depends how many participants there are from each country. So I think I automatically place at least in the first round, but to go to the finals I need to be quick 😅

I just watched this for the second time. Great that you got under an hour. 👍Just enjoy yourself and have a great experience at Worlds. It will be interesting to see your times for the other two puzzles. I did find out what size the tables are at Worlds - 180cm/70.5" long, 80cm/31" wide and 74cm/29" high. How does that compare with the table you currently use?

Thank you! I most certainly will enjoy myself 🤗 I wanna see how the other two go as well 😊 and yes, I just checked that out, as I got another comment to mark my table to the exact measurements. So mine is slightly bigger - only 5cm/2” in each direction, so I taped it down to practice at the exact size 👌🏻

Janette, under the guidelines/rules for the competition do they list the size of the area you are limited to? If so, may I suggest you “tape off” that size on your puzzling surface so you can condition yourself to work within that area only? I know this advice is unsolicited, but it is well intentioned. Wow! Well done! You got under an hour. That's so cool! 😊50 min is a great time 👍I'm also going to Spain and together with the girls I'll be puzzling with, we decided that we'd ship all the puzzles by post... So, that's also an option, I guess 😉

I bet you can finish all 4 jigsaw puzzles in less than 2.5 hours! Are you going to the world championship jigsaw puzzle competition? If they do the underwater mermaid again, will you take on the challenge? I am hoping there will be something colorful for you to achieve in every division of the championship. Which people are on your team and pairs to become possibly to win (maybe LOL)? I heard the jigsaw puzzle championship is happening in Spain if I am correct but do not mistaken me, I would love it a lot if you packed your passport so you can participate 😊. Good luck!

I'm not sure that would be doable for me 😅 I am going yes, but I don't know what this mermaid is. But I think I'll take on every challenge at this competition, because I wanna experience everything they have to offer! 🤩 I'm doing pairs with Donnalouise - For the Love of Puzzles, and a team with Jubie - from Jigsaw Jubie, and Vicky - from Vicky Makes and Builds 😁 The championship is in Spain correct 😊

@@janetteandherpuzzles it was done last year. I saw Karen put it together on the team division. She couldn’t finish it on time due to the time she was given for the team time limit. The mermaid puzzle she tried putting together is from ravensburger jigsaw puzzles. Karen had it half done until time ran out with her teammates. Karen posted a video seeing how long it took for her to assemble the jigsaw puzzle herself. She explained it took almost 10 hours for Karen to get the puzzle done. Hope you understand🙂.

Impressive times - so much faster than anything I could achieve! 👍 I always wonder if scissors or knives are allowed at the Worlds - I do not find anything in the rules. As everybody (including me 😅) is talking about opening the box with bare hands, I assume tools might be forbitten...

Thank you! I don't think any accessories are allowed, except a couple of boards/trays for sorting the puzzle pieces on. I just assumed that we have to open it with bare hands, I'm not actually sure what the rules are 🤔😅

You did great! I wish I could do a 500 piece puzzle in less than an hour! Or at least under 90 minutes lol, the amount of time you are given in the competition if I'm not wrong

Thank you! A lot depends on the picture, the quality of the puzzle and the day light, so make sure that everything is good and you're good to go 😉 90 minutes is the time yes, but you can still qualify even if you don't finish the puzzle in that time, as long as you're the quickest from your country if I'm not mistaken 😊

I had just done the puzzle brand review video, that you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmLFppiIjMuUmcU But to quickly answer your question, I always say my top three brands are Clementoni, Ravensburger and Schmidt. I think you should be able to get all in the UK, and I know there are many more brands that you have access to, but there are the ones that I can guarantee to make your experience enjoyable, especially if you're a beginner 😉 And picture is also important, so pick something you like, that it's not too dark and has specific sections of colours, easy to separate 😁

I've already bought three puzzles from my local charity shop, as there was a sale on .. just 50p each and two were still factory sealed and the other one, although open, the actual bag of pieces was sealed, so I did pretty well. One is a 2,000 piece puzzle, but at that price I couldn't say no. I'll just keep it until i get a bit of experience. the other two are 500 piece puzzles. All the best for 2024
